What's Your Take On The Tweaked Uncharted 3 Mechanics?
Now that the Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception beta test appears to be running a little smoother, another piece of controversy has arisen.
Naughty Dog has clearly changed a few things in regards to the gameplay mechanics in the multiplayer action, and while some love the alterations, others are skeptical.
For the most part, the single-player campaign will likely play very much like Among Thieves, but the developers have gone out of their way to overhaul the multiplayer aspect and the question is: for better or for worse? We maintain that Uncharted is all about the memorable single-player experience and in all honesty, we're not even sure it needs multiplayer, but hey...few games are allowed into the world without that feature, right? So if you've sampled the beta, what's your take on the matter? Did you like Uncharted 2 multiplayer better? Or is this a definite upgrade? Don't be afraid to speak up!
Oh, and if anyone still needs a code, I have a few left.

It has some hitches and glitches, but hey it's a beta, so I know they will fix most of them, for when the game ships. Co-op Arena is great for leveling up with some friends, but you really need to have a mic or what i found out that works great the PS Eye, for communication, you'll need it, specially in the later rounds. Team Deathmatch is very entertaining and easly fun with friends, I like the Power Plays but they don't help too much, as for the other modes, haven't play them.
Only another problem it has is the melee sistem, sometimes it works but man when you need it the most your character just flings into the air like a lunatic( well if you keep pressing square) jaja. Overall good Beta.

As a side not...is there any info about what kind of aliasing U3 is using. I heard rumors that they ditched MLAA due to the constraints of the Cell and the need for that extra room being that U3 is a very physics intensive game. I hear that they are going for FXAA2 possibly 3?
Just wondering because the beta had some jaggies on the air strip while the chateau was somewhat blurry (the blurriness is probably coming from the FXAA2 implemented). Still looks great for being multiplayer.

im pretty sure all of this has been said before and probably debated but this is my persional opinion
EDIT: and i find the cutscenes, while good for breaking it up a little, are out of place and almost as if they took it from KZ3s operations

I know its a beta and all but it does feel very clunky compared to U2 multiplayer. But overall, I'm having fun with it and can't wait to get some time with it over the weekend.

As far as the kickbacks and such I'm still a little up in the air about. For the most part they seem subtle. I've tried some out and they can help but they don't seem overpowering. That is the key. As long as they are just a nice small "boost", than they won't really break the game. It's not like people are calling mortar strikes on you and there is nothing you can do about it.
I may be biased since I already pre-ordered, but I must say I am really enjoying it so far.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Also the co-op is much improved over uc2. I only wish that i can play just siege, just gold rush and just survival liked in uc2. I like how it changes things up a bit, sort of like the killzone online, with the changing gamemodes, but i also want it like Killzone where i can play just deathmatch if i choose to.

Co-op Arena kind of sucks now and I hope they make some changes to get it closer to the intensity of U2 like removing the time limit, but just about everything else is awesome. I hope they manage to achieve their goal of being the go-to online title for PS3.
Understand that people who spend a lot of time with a game tend to HATE when it changes, especially people on the internet.

This is a definite improvement over U2s multiplayer. The guns have a good kick on them unlike 2. But either way if you wanna complain about features please go to the naughty dog forums. They'll definitely add improvements to it.

Overall it seems to me most people are enjoying it, even the newcomers. So that's saying something. Especially since there was a huge amount of frustration the first day of the beta. But that's why it's a beta, one problem down on to the next step in the process.

The buddy systems works well even with random people.
In UC2 Multi I was either running around for weapon pick ups, or ran to a 'good spot', the rest was pretty much chaos. I never got that feeling in 2v2v2. There where always hotspots and you had to think about how to be there and get points without dying.
I haven't played the normal Team Death match so much, and I am not sure about power plays as well. Do they always help the team thats behind in points?

Not to mention that at this stage of development only thing they'll be doing is making sure the game is playable; that's what happens during alpha and beta stages. When that's done they will go into the polishing stage; ND would never release a game that isnt pixel-perfect!

the competitive needs a filter to have you playing against people of your rank, but besides that and the RIDICULOUS lag its pretty good.
still prefer the co-op, just so much fun collecting the treasure and hurling it around the map.
just need more incentives to actually do the objectives, almost every match ive been in everyone ignores them and just kills everyone!
i mean hello, killings not everything here!

One problem I have is with the character creation, it's a big flaw in many CC's set ups in games....the hair, well the lack of it rather, you can only play as bald men.... What can i say, I like my locks.

The melee should be turned down a bit because as of right now its way too powerful. Its so easy to sneak up on someone (not even necessarily from behind) and take them out with a melee. Either that or make the guns feel more powerful. Maybe its because I've been playing Socom 4 for so long, but it seems that the guns fire at a much slower rate, and are a lot less powerful than they were in Uncharted 2. Anyone else notice this?
As far as the powerplays go, I LOVE them. Such a good idea. I think that they'll have to tweak when they become activated though. My team went up 13-8 and the other team got a power play. I mean, thats not really a "blow out" that early in the match. But in any event its a great idea and it seems to work well. Maybe offer modes that don't have them as well? Like a "Standard" (with them) and "Classic" (without) just to appease any "hardcore" online enthusiasts.

I'm not able to pinpoint exactly why, but I've started to think it may be cause it's third person view? I'm slower, struggling more than I imagine I usually do in a fps.
Other than that the demo runs very well now, although I can't see what's so groundbreaking, it's quite standard multiplayer modes so I don't see why this should be the next big thing in multiplayer gaming.
"A nice add-on to a great single player game" is how I'd characterize it. And, well, that's what it is too?

I'm not sure I'd describe it as "sluggish" though, maybe more as if the movement speed is different than what I find natural. It's like I have to concentrate when I aim, as opposed to aiming naturally.
Funny thing is that in single player games I usually prefer 3rd person view when given the chance. So I really am a bit confused over this.

Anyway, establishing a connection to the game's servers are probably the one that's been most problematic for me. Sometimes I have to make two to three attempts before I get to connect, but there are also times when I was able to connect instantaneously. Knowing it's a beta, I kind of anticipated it and that's probably why I do not mind it so much. Once I'm connected, I stay connected and never experienced a lot of lag or frame drops since version 1.01.
I happen to like the little changes that were implemented in the multiplayer of Uncharted 3. I like how "heavy" the characters feel now. I don't think they're super slow, they just feel that they actually have weight. I wouldn't call the melee overpowered. It is not easy to stealth kill someone in a competitive multiplayer game in the first place, I think. Most of the time, players are actually running around instead of standing idly by to be easy bait. Besides, the melee has always been as such since the first Uncharted game. So no complaints there.
I did notice though that enemies are now more resilient against gunfire while your character seems more "receptive" to them. I noticed that I have to fire more shots than usual to kill the enemies, while I got downed a lot faster than I remember in U2. Not sure if I like this part, but it's not a big issue for me. For one, it makes the game more challenging and encourages a more tactical approach to killing your foes.
I cannot really comment on how powerful (or otherwise) the guns are since I really don't know anything about them. The AK-47 is indeed slow compared to the one in U2, but I guess that's where the weapon upgrades come in. I usually ditch that gun and start looking for an M9. Haha! I also like the reticule in U3 because it's more visible to me and makes targeting easier.
The kickbacks are interesting. Now there's better reason for going after medals instead of them just adding to your score/cash. I just hope Elena would stop telling me that my kickbacks are ready all the time. I see no reason to use my Team Medic kickback when everyone is in good health. LOL And oh, it's great that the kickbacks are stackable! At one time I got several Team Medic kickbacks stacked after accumulating several medals in one round. :) And for those who are not fans of the entire kickback deal, we still have the Hardcore game mode.
One funny thing I noticed though is that "stranglers" sometimes don't attempt to strangle you and instead just stand there before you as if waiting to be shot. LOL
Anyway, those are my impressions of the beta's co-op mode. I guess what matters is that I feel that I am still playing an Uncharted game despite all the changes that were made.
I could go on and on about the little things about the beta but from what I've played, I could tell that this is going to be a great multiplayer experience for me. I know that Uncharted is a game that should excel on its single player campaign but a multiplayer component is something I would not mind if it is very well done. Like I've always said before, I do not really play a lot of multiplayer games, but Naughty Dog has made Uncharted *my* go-to multiplayer experience since the second game. :)

Honestly the multiplayer in the Uncharted 3 beta reminded me a lot of 007 Bloodstone. Maybe it was just me.
So, I would have to say it changed for the worse and that I liked Uncharted 2's multiplayer better. I know this is just a beta and the point of it is to get feedback, so here it is Naughty Dog.
