Media Molecule Working On New PS3 Exclusive Project?

Media Molecule has given the world a revolutionary franchise called LittleBigPlanet but after delivering the second to widespread critical acclaim, they want to try to something new.

When a team has that much talent, it's always interesting to consider what they might do with that talent. For most of this generation, Media Molecule has been 100% focused on Sackboy and Co. and that focus has resulted in awards, respect, and a place in Sony's stable of top-tier developers. Now, a series of Tweets has passed through several sources, including Edge; the update is from Media Molecule's Siobhan Reddy:

"We're stepping away from LittleBigPlanet to focus on some new ideas."

"Some new ideas" is pretty vague, but as the team is owned by Sony now, we'd like to assume a new PlayStation 3 exclusive is in the works. But what might it be? Will it be at all similar to LBP? Or are they going to pull a complete 180 and do something dark and intense? Well, whatever it is, we'll definitely be interested in the project.

I'd love to see them do something more "dark and intense". I downloaded the orginal LBP as part of the "Welcome Back" offer and its great, but not really my style. Much like how Naughty Dog, Insomniac, and Sucker Punch made a name for themselves with 3D platformers and then went on to more "mature" games, I'd love to see what Media Molecule could do with a new IP.

The fact that they're willing to ditch a sure thing with the LBP series and push their talent in a new direction has earned them a lot more respect in my eyes, so I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Oh and happy Canada day to my fellow Canadians!

I hope they do something awesome. Maybe besides user generated content, but if they do anything user generated they might as well do another little big planet.

I feel games come out way to soon as lbp 2 came only 1 and 1/2 years after the first one which felt way too soon. Games sequeals are comign out oo fast now, I hope at least 2 - 3 years before another sequal comes out.

If they are comfortable with the new content, physics and visuals the 1.5-2 years is fine. LBP and Uncharted are great examples of that.
C.O.D. IS NOT!!!!! >:(

I went with LBP for my welcome back deal. I won't play it until I beat Dragon Age, but at least now I can say I have a platformer in my collection.

I'm kinda excited to see what else MM could offer the world, but I'll wait till we have some more substantial rumors to get really excited.

One of the few developers willing to take a chance and try something new. I respect that.

This is awesome. Another developer that takes chances is Platinum Games. Replaying Vanquish right now and i realize, i'm a huge fan of their games. The gameplay is top notch and so fluid just like bayonetta. Sure they are cheesy kind of but man they are fun!!! I can't wait to see what MM does. They are very talented. Just hard to imagine what they'd do...

I may be wrong but aren't the guys from MM defectors from Lionhead? I think it would be cool if they made a really awesome action adventure/RPG hybrid that's way better than Fable ever was.

I will be looking forward to GDC or E3 or whenever they decide to show the world a glimpse of sheer greatness.

That's cool. I mean, it was awesome to see them expand on LBP with the sequel, but how much more could they add to it? So, I'm glad to see them moving on. But what would they go to? Maybe Sony's putting them on the next Jak and Daxter? Nah, that'd be not good.

I just can't really see the team doing anything even remotedly possible of getting an M15+ rating. LBP and their website are just way too cutesy, and I think that going too far in the other direction would hinder the selling power of their next game.

of course its a new ps3 exclusive, sony bought them shortly after LBP released.
wont be a vita game, only smaller developers are working on that.
theres a reason why there not doing the new LBP vita game.......
i hope its something exactly like LBP, but for the love of god dont mix genres this time!
i loved LBP, but HATED LBP2!
keep it a side scrolling platformer, keep the cutsy artwork and it will sell like hotcakes!
