It Takes A "Dirty Girl" To Promote MX vs. ATV: Alive

Okay, so you don't have a blockbuster game and it won't be winning any critic awards.

So how does one increase sales of said title? Oh, it isn't so hard. Just create a long advertisement that focuses on hot girls frolicking and getting undressed. We see parts of the game but who cares? As any good advertising professional will tell you, it's all about getting the attention of the audience. ...mission accomplished.

However, one fact does remain true in the video game world- consumers aren't easily swayed by such ad campaigns. The bottom line is that MX vs. ATV: Alive is okay, but not great. That video did nothing for me. All it did was convince me that some companies continue to push the mindless stereotype that all gamers are teen boys desperate to see hot girls.

What features are outlined in the game? What makes this game stand out from its predecessors?

You got 1 thing right Ben, it got my attention, but the wrong kind of attention. I watched the video for about 30 seconds, but it in no way convinced me to buy the game.

... unless the 3 girls come with the game. :P

As motocross enthusiast I rarely look at these games as games. What I mean is I'm not looking for them to compete with pure, or motorstorm... I look fr how well the tracks were developed, how well the bikes perform as compared tp real life, how well the bikes are modeled and if they have the licenses to real bikes like it showed they had as DLC at the end. So the commercial displayed all that for me to get excites for it, the girls were just a plus. ;)

it's sitting on metacritic with a 62. surprised to see white night chronicles 2 barely above it with a 68 after 13 critic reviews.

Well, if you compare it to the average score of the first wkc (wkc2 supposedly is basically more of the same) it should not come as a surprise? Wkc was never a hit with the reviewers.
On gamerankings wkc2 is at 61% right now (although after only 4 reviews), below MX vs. ATV: Alive at 65%...

Whoa, those graph(tits) are awesome. Not a fan of the genre or the game though, but that was still nice. ;)

Edit: Cotdamn that video was hot! If it did "nothing" for people, they should have their penis/sexuality checked.

I think the bigger disappointment is the fact this game is rated E and this is the commercial they choose...totally irrelevant to the game.

I bought it when it came out. It was really enjoyable but a sequel or a new Excitebike needs to come out here soon. Or something else that plays like those two do. A new Rock N Roll Racing would be great too while we're on the subject of classic racers lol.

Promotion is promotion whatever way you look at it. Some people may think it's sad, but the truth is the way the promoted this game in some ways is how they promote the sport. Girls in tight pants and tight shirts hold up the 30 second board before the start of every major national race, then theirs the trophy girls dressed the part as well, not to mention all the models they use to take pictures next to the men and machines. I've been involved in the sport for a very long time, and although the focal point of the sport is the machines, athletes and the racing, woman in the sport are very involved, both as racers and models. E3 has booth babes, motocross has trophy girls.

Look at it however you want but it fits and it was lighthearted. It's not like the girls were literally dancing around naked and that's all the ad focused on. If you can't see past that, then maybe you enjoyed the commercial too much to admit it.

Sure, these girls are nice to look at.. but I find this kind of commercials kinda pathetic.. What do half naked girls simulating a lesbian kiss have to do with a motocross game? I don't know, this idea for commercial used to be ok for me, but now it's getting old, and I feel like they're thinking i'm an idiot who will drool at these girls and then buy the game..

That's just pathetic and sad. Really. It's just unbelievably sad. It's an implicit admission that your game is complete crap if you open with a long shot of hot babes in booth babe outfits, and then throw every 'hot babe' cliche possible into the commercial.

I'm actually quite turned off by it, and I really don't want that game now either.

I think the same way women get (justifiably) peeved by adverts which portray them as being mindless stereotype consumers, men should be peeved at this type of advertising drivel. I would have been curious about this game, but this ad almost convinces me the game is crap. I'm taking a stubborn stand against this rubbish.

Well, "disgusted" isn't the right word.. but anyway, it's ok to have girls at conventions.. but in the case of this commercial, the use of girls to attract attention, just shows a lack of ideas.. I dont know, it seems shallow to me. And it's like the developers are telling me "Yeah, we know this game is just OK... but... look at this! Boobs!".. which is sad. I also think that girls shouldn't "sell" themselves like that for a videogame.. this video makes them look dumb.. But I guess, these days you have to find a way to make money, right?
