Uncharted Originally Featured An Underwater Setting
Making a video game is a long, complicated process. Original concepts don't always end up making the cut, even if they're initially approved.
The Uncharted franchise is arguably the best new franchise of the generation; it began with Drake's Fortune back in 2007 - which got nowhere near enough attention due to the small number of PlayStation 3 units in the world - and will continue with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on November 1.
Those who did play the first title will remember lush forests, supremely detailed jungle and cave settings, and even a few industrial areas. However, according to Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells, the game was originally going to be very, very different. Yep, it would've taken place in an underwater facility (very much like Bioshock) and in fact, the idea was even accepted by Sony.
Well, things change. The question is, do you think it would've been just as good in the original setting? Or did they make the right move by changing their minds?

If it was a little more polished like the Gears 3 beta, I would honestly say it's more fun than the Gears 3 beta. Love the vertical takedowns and medic rescues, just sooooo much more fun than most MP games I play.
Here's hoping the final product will be far more polished and playable for many of you.

I feel stupid when I remember that the original demo didn't do anything for me. But you have to remember I was coming straight from the PS2 days when I played straight JRPGs and shunned most shooters.

Then Uncharted 2 came out and pushed epic storytelling and action sequences to a whole new level. Gears 3 and Infamous 2 went with bigger monsters, Uncharted 3 is going with intense survival in a shifting environment (the boat sinking fight scene, anyone?)
I prefer Naughty Dog's style. Bigger enemies isn't always better. Epic Games seem to think so. :)

Personally I would love it if it had an underwater theme, imagine diver equipment, beautiful reefs, sea life...
Yeah I'd definitely prefer that to the much more standard (and in my PERSONAL opinion, less exciting) "adventurer in exotic surroundings" formula it ended up having.
As far as I can recall there's never been any diver games, ever? I think that must be one helluva setting for a game! Finding treasures, all the gorgeous views, get air refills to continue the search, etc... Perfect!

BTW, Uncharted 2 was the only game I saw where water effects were done perfectly. Where the water touched Drake was the part that got wet and created a darker stain in his clothes AND clung to his skin. Like rolling through a puddle, his back gets wet but his front stays dry. THAT really impressed me!!

I don't see how it being underwater would of worked. Jungles, towns, deserts and snowy mountain tops. FTW!
I know the only things I will be getting in maybe all of Oct., Nov., and Dec., will be MGS HD collections and U3(both coming in NOV. Going to be a good holiday season.
Now, What will Sony do for the PS3? price drop? new models? who knows. All I know is Sony is freaking Awesome! :)
