PSXE Poll Update: inFamous 2 Is 2011's Best...So Far
Ha! We didn't even put it on the list at first, just 'cuz it didn't score as high as other titles this year. But gamers know what they like.
The first six months of 2011 have given us quite a few excellent titles, and we wanted to know which one deserves to lead the pack in the race for Game of the Year. Our pick would be Portal 2 but the readers have chosen inFamous 2, Sucker Punch's great follow-up, which expands upon the core principles of the original game, much to the delight of action aficionados everywhere. Killzone 3 came in second and L.A. Noire was a close third, which makes perfect sense; both titles are easily two of the best of the year so far. But Cole's latest adventure is clearly beloved by the majority, and you have to respect that. Hell, we love it to pieces, too.
Of course, given what's coming in the second half of the year, these results aren't likely to stand up. Any bets on Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception winning it...? As for this week's poll, let's find out what people think about Naughty Dog's unbelievable series: is it the best of the generation? The best of all time? Overrated? Let us know.

I really hope MGS can return with Solid Snake. MGS 5 is coming. But sadly it most likely won't be a PS3 exclusive. D: I don't know how great it will be now. Sony and it's fan need and love MGS. It sucks that Nintendo and the 360 are getting the past entries. but oh well. I hope MGS5 will come back to Sony.

As for the Uncharted series, as much as I love it, I had to pick "great, but not best" simply because Metal Gear reigns supreme in my book. Though I liked the story of MGS3 the best of the series, 4 stands out as the overall best game in terms of balance and how it wraps everything up. That aside, I'm still REALLY looking forward to Uncharted 3, though. Honestly, what Playstation 3 owner isn't?

They all offer so much in different genres its truly a treat to get to experience them all.
KZ3 didn't blow me away with the Campaign but I do definitely enjoy the new and improved MP, when I can find a match without 3 people.

Something I like about games like Fallout, Mass Effect, and even Heavy Rain, is that they present you with moral choices. These games present options with their own unique consequences. I find it a lot more fulfilling and good inside to choose a good decision having known that I turned down the bad to embrace the good. It means a lot more when you're presented with those fork in road opportunities, makes it more "real."
In more linear story telling, the game doesn't present a choice for the user, so I don't feel as immersed in a "virtual" setting because the game is "telling" me a story, rather than living a life with choices that would be probably made by myself given a similar circumstance through the eyes of the character within the game world. While ultimately, all games are scripted for you no matter what you choose, not all games present consequences correlated with your decisions whether they be big or small, or good and bad.
More specific to Infamous 2, I thought the ending of the Evil Infamous 2 was more emotional and more sad. Though, being the good guy that I am, I preferred the good ending.
I also give it a big recommendation to anyone wondering if Infamous 2's evil ending is significantly different than the good ending. YES, yes it is.

People better buy it this time, I'm getting sick of COD games being the best selling PS3 titles of all time. That title should go to an exclusive at least.

But I will say that the most modern games can be considered the greatest and most complicated games ever, because they have been built upon the foundation of the great games that have come before them.
Really, we have never had an era better than the era in gaming we have now. No games have done as much and achieved as much as the ones we play today.

Uncharted I'd have to say is the best of the generation as far as quality goes, but Final Fantasy is still the best franchise of all time. Some lame spinoffs and a questionable direction don't erase past glory.

Uncharted...yeah, that series is just awesome all around, but the underwhelming demo's so far haven't really blown me away. Now that Batman AC 12 minute gameplay segment you posted earlier this weekend blew me away. Right now, thats the game I'm looking forward too the most along with AC Revelations. Skyrim up there too along with Dark Souls. UC3 gonna have alot of competition this fall, hope it delivers which I assume it will...ND was the reason inFamous 2 was so great!!!!

@Jawknee...I'm pretty sure SuckerPunch pulled every ounce of energy out of their respective skills to make inFamous 2 great, but to say inFamous is on the same level as part 2 isn't fair. inFamous 2 has more character, personality, etc. than inFamous 2. I loved inFamous 1 because of its gameplay, but I loved inFamous 2 because of its story and enhanced gameplay. Not saying this is ND doing, but Cole definitely didn't have character in the first game. Pretty sure ND fixed this problem. This was one of the reason I didn't care about Cole until the ending of the game. Just my opinion. But inFamous was definitely a good game. Played it like 4 times.
@aaronisbla...calm down bro...lol Beta? were on two different pages homie. I'm refereing to demo's I have seen, not the beta which I actually am enjoying at the moment.

It's just as entertaining and that's all that really matters. Besides, ND only helped them with their graphics engine. The rest was up to Sucker Punch just like with ND helping Guerilla with Killzone 3.

I never saw that I could "switch careers" from the LOAD screen, allowing me access to ALL of my save files from that prior play through. Woo HoO!
anyway, so not to be totally from left field, It's good to know Portal 2 is the current lead for GotY from PSXe. I really want to give that one a go, but I can't feel good about that until after having finished the first one. Perhaps when I'm done with Fallout 3 I can give Portal a go.

Uncharted series is my favorite of all time. I've had great memories with tons of other games but for me it's uncharted hands down. MGS is awesome bit I joined the party late and don't have the same passion long time fans have. In fact I remember playing the first MGS on PSone but didn't finish all of them until this generation just before MGS4 released. GoW series is a close second to uncharted. But uncharted is unparalleled for me in all areas most importantly the characters and stories. Those play a huge role for me. The graphics, and amazing environments are all just added bonuses. Anyways that's just me, but the fact we can discuss this game as that title of "best ever" means to some it is, which means it's very debatable! Best game(s) ever!

I mean, fair enough that i2 won, everyone loved that one. But seeing Crysis 2 almost at the bottom and kz3 having more than ten times as many votes... It just doesn't make sense to me.
We do know that Crysis2 did not sell that well on ps3 cause of the rumour mill prior to launch and that's a bloody shame cause that game is one of the best fps I've played so far, and *the* best I've played on the ps3.

The story is cool, I liked it, it "fits the game" but it's not like BioShock where I kept playing *because* of the story. But that's me, I value creativity and originality to stories extremely high, your preferences may differ.
I would put it this way: It was not the story that made me keep playing, it was the game itself. The locations, the different enemies, the awesome encounters, the very good handling, the variations of the different maps and tasks, the sound, the overall quality of the entire production!
Also, the linearity is very much there but it's so well made that you don't get "the rails in your face" all the time. The path you choose by your own free will just happen to be the path you are supposed to choose.
And of course the star of the show: The nano suit. It adds a much welcomed different "flavour" in a too crowded FPS bag and for once it makes sense that you are an almost immortal "one man army" cause that suit is the coolest thing ever, and you really feel like one powerful son of a b**ch.

But I maintain that the biggest selling point is not the story but the game itself. Damn I had some fun moments in it, figuring out how to take down those bastards.
Regarding the blurry graphics I understand what you mean, but I actually liked it. I think it made everything look more realistic, more like how your eyes see the world when things are hectic.
I look forward to see the next game that use this engine!

all were fantastic fun, but only dead space 2 had everything a game should have!
ok it was not exactly a horror game, opening the level design up from the tight corridors of the original to a wider more open landscape only hurt the atmosphere and tension, but it was still a really fun game.
story was not as good as it could of been either, but which game is?
i really hope for DS3 they go back to the tight confined spaces of the original, and play allot more on the crazy card with issac.
like what alan wake did, its constantly sending you through motions, then setting up they were fake, then saying or were they?
they really heavily emphasize the insanity card and have you clutching at straws.
thats what DS3 needs, that, and of course a more restricted level design and it would be perfect!
portal 2 simply because, well, name 1 other game that has such good character design!
each character feels perfect, there perfect for the type of game, and they act there part perfectly!
you got the hard but also sweet GLaDOS, then you have the sinister spiteful, yet humorous wheatly, then you the quiet guy who just manages to cause sh*t for everyone you meet!
cant pick it as my number 1 though simply because it was too repetitive and got boring towards the end.
they put far too much of a emphasis on the repulsion and rebound jell towards the end, i mean you know there are other systems in the game!?
last 40% of the game feels like the last level repeated!
also the puzzles are not as clever as the original.
in the original id be sitting there for ages trying to figure it out, then finally do so and say ahhhhh thats so clever!
in portal 2 though it was quite the opposite i constantly found myself saying thats really silly they should of done it this way.
its really linear too which hurts it, there can be 100 ways to solve a puzzle but you can only use the one way the game wants you to use.
crysis 2 simply because its so versatile.
its what every shooter should be!
the maps are so freaking large, you can literally take 100 different routes to your objective!
over the bridge, under in the sewers, down on street level, up in the buildings, its got so many paths to solve any situation, and unlike any other game each path holds different advantages and dis advantages.
for example you could go down the sewers so enemies wont see you, and tanks cant get to you.
but if they see you before you slip down, well the sewers are quite confined so dodging a grenades not so simple.
i love it how you can sit back with a sniper and enter nano vision and just mark all the enemies on your map, then take them out with your sniper.
only thing i hate about that is even when im using a silenced sniper, and am cloaked, hiding behind a brick wall, when i fire everyone magically knows where i am!
WTF!?
gets really annoying!
kinda defeats the whole purpose of using a silencer no?
but thats the beauty of crysis 2, its so freaking open!
you can literally play however you want, be it sitting back with a sniper, going in guns blazing, grabbing a vehicle and pretending your playing twisted metal, or flanking enemies by going above or below them.
name one other game that gives you so many choices and different ways to playing it, AND different advantages and disadvantages of doing so, and ill eat my hat!
crysis 2 has gotta be one of the industries most underrated games!
O, and there all being published by EA.........
guess this years a great year to be a EA shareholder!
just a shame they lost RAGE to bethesda, otherwise they would really be swimming!

In all honesty, my favourite game this year so far is FF: Dissidia 2, Not many 2011 titles have reached out to me this year, While last year I had Heavy Rain and FFXIII a month a part. The only 2011 game i have played so far is Dead Space 2 but i stopped playing it mid way through, not sure why.

MGS is the greatest series of all time for me though. MGS1 I still remember looking at my friends with my jaw on the floor, in the beginning of the game when the opening credits are rolling while your playing

As for the new poll, Uncharted is the best there is this generation. But best game of all time? For me, its a tie between MK, Zelda MM and OoT, MGS3, and Uncharted 2.

InFamous was an original superhero game and I enjoy the story. Uncharted offer a new experience it had great action and a great story that could out shine any big budget Hollywood movie.
Back to "InFamous 2" I like the new powers, wished they brought back the recharge thing when you zip across on the power lines. I hope SP does an "InFamous 3" and find a way to bring back Cole. Even if they use the old well a lighting bolt just brought him back I think most people won't care.
