Naughty Dog On New Jak & Daxter: "We'd Love To Do It"

If you recall, Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was one of the best PS2 games of the generation.

Ever since then, Ratchet & Clank has taken over the action/platformer crown, much to the delight of a great many fans. Furthermore, Naughty Dog has gone on to do some pretty amazing things...like, say, that amazing Uncharted franchise.

But if you're pining for a Jak & Daxter return, don't give up hope just yet. In speaking to Eurogamer, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells says the team still loves the dynamic duo in question, and wouldn't mind revisiting the pair in the future:

"What I hear a lot recently [from fans] is to make another Jak & Daxter game. My answer always is we’d love to do it, there’s a lot of love for the franchise and it has a special place in our hearts for sure, but we’re sort of heads down, working on one game at a time now and are focusing on Uncharted, but we’d love to go back to it at some point."

Obviously, we'd like them to remain firmly focused on Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception but the idea of a Jak and Daxter reunion piques our interest. Sure, Daxter struck out on his own on the PSP, and we've seen Jak pop up here and there, too, but it just isn't the same. Maybe after U3 is done, Naughty Dog can give the fans what they want...

The problem with a great dev like ND is that they made so many awesome games that we keep wanting them to make old franchises new again, but we also want to see what they can do with a completely new IP. There is just too much talent in ND!

They'd be better off doing what Sucker Punch has with Sly. Let a third party handle the HD remakes, and then based on that performance, if the third party is any good, let them do the new iteration. ND can always do the quality assurance and ensure that the art and mood of the game are correct. Personally, I'd like to see one more Uncharted from them, before they move on to the PS4 (when that does eventually come into view).

I'm with Highlander. It wouldn't be too difficult either. I mean, they are overseeing development of Golden Abyss. Maybe it could go to High Impact Games, or Ready at Dawn under the tutelage of ND?

Oh man...did you have to go blurt out the pessimistic truth there World? (sigh!) I REALLY REALLY want to see Naughty Dog make another Jak & Daxter game. Jak & Daxter the Precursor Legacy was the first game on my PS2. And it was absolutely mind blowing. Seriously it was. I just could never stop playing that adventure packed game. The characters were loveable as well.

Jak II and Jak 3 were fantastic games as well! THE ONLY TINY little complaint that I have, is that they kind of lost the originality of the first one. It almost felt as if Naughty Dog were kind of tempted by the creators of GTA to include vehicles and have actual weapons.

either way, I would love to see ANOTHER GAME...especially on the PS3.

Maybe Naughty Dog's interest in revisiting the franchise is an indication of a possible HD collection. I would want a new game or a collection and could even be as greedy as wanting both, perhaps more.

Just give me a HD set, and I'll decide on a new iteration later (although I'm pretty well already sold on it due to what people have to say about the games). Sony are mad if they DON'T do more with Jak and Daxter.

Various members of Naughty Dogg have released almost exactly this same quote multiple times over the last three years. Uncharted has obviously given the developer a higher clout than they've ever had before but I think it would be nice to see them give Drake a break for a little bit following U3 and show Jak some love. But realistically I just want a new proper Jak and Daxter game. I also think that Ready at Dawn would be an excellent choice to make a new Jak game (made up of former Naughty Dogg employees who moved on during the Jak and Daxter days and created Daxter for PSP) but they are working on their own thing. Regardless it is always nice to here Sony employees aknowledge Jak and Daxter's existence as long as that continues there's always hope.

Ah, but WHAT are R@D working on, I wonder? They've said they're developing an engine for the PS3/360... they've done several games for Sony already. They've said that they'd do an original IP when they got the chance, but maybe Sony and ND approached them with a J&D PS3? I'm free to hope aren't I?

I did not play anything after Jak 3, but it was pretty much finsihed wasnt it?

Though i still have to say, I prefered Jak & Dexter 1 highly over the sequels, It was a classic platformer after that you got guns and open enviroments, it was just another ratchet and clank...

i honestly cant see them ever doing a new J&D game.
theres only a few years left with the ps3 so i would not be surprised if uncharted 3 is NDs last ps3 game.
uncharted was suppose to be a launch title, but got delayed quite a bit because it took allot longer then expected.
sony will want to make sure they have there biggest gun ready for a new systems release.

they should do what SP are doing, outsource a collection to another studio, then if that goes really well bring out a new J&D game with those developers.
i say f*ck J&D though, id much rather a new crash bandicoot game, or at least a HD collection.
wondering if the licenses have changed hands since the last game, its been what 4 years?
just seems strange vendi are sitting on such a popular license doing nothing with it!
they were releasing crash games like they were guitar hero, then all of a sudden stopped and have not seen anything since!
that makes me hope, no, dream that ND have bought the license back.
ok, im clutching at straws, but come on cant a guy dream every once in a while?

But oh, crap. Activision has the license apparently... I guess this means we can expect him to put in an appearance in one of their Skylanders games... As if abusing Spyro to that extent isn't enough. *Weeps for the PS1 mascots*

To this day, I still find it strange that Sony let their two original mascots, Crash and Spyro, slip away into Universal's hands. They would've been awesome alongside Sackboy today.

I don't think we'll see Naughty Dog do anything else until Uncharted 3 and then the eventual Uncharted Racing. LOL! Remember, that's how they role; a trilogy and then a racing game to cap it off (i.e. Crash Bandicoot 1-3 and then Crash Team Racing, Jak 1-3 and then Jak X). A Jak 4 would be pretty sweet, though.

Naughty Dog has to make another Jak and Daxter game. Its my favorite series ever and it seems like the PS3 won't be complete without one.

I think we should wait to see how the studio making the new SlyCooper turn out... And if it's good and they do a good job with the game then maybe they should get a shot at Jak and Daxter next

I'd much rather see Uncharted 4 than a new Jak & Daxter game. They only have so many guys on the team, so unless they're massively expanding (which they should!) U4 gets my vote for next game!!
