Uncharted Movie Close To Signing A New Director
The "Uncharted" film has been in need of a director ever since David O. Russell made an early exit.
Well, it didn't take too long to find someone new to take the helm- according to The Hollywood Reporter, Neil Burger ("The Illusionist," "Limitless") is in "final negotiations" to adopt the role of writer and director for the Drake movie. However, we're not sure if Mark Wahlberg - initially slated to be the leading man - still wants to do the project; after all, he and Russell have a solid history. Wahlberg starred in "The Fighter" and "Three Kings," both of which were directed by Russell. As for any other details, everything remains sort of murky and not much has been officially confirmed. We just hope Burger keeps to the script originally penned by Naughty Dog some time ago.
As you might recall, Russell departed due to "creative differences" and based on interviews we heard with him, he had a...bizarre take on the Uncharted plot.

the illusionist was a decent movie, but it wasn't anything spectacular. i'm curious about where the movie goes now. are the using the same scripts? are they recasting? need more info before i can really judge. does anybody know what the budget for this movie is?
@danny
i don't think fillion is a big enough name for this movie. it really needs some star power to put people in the seats. who knows? anything is possible. according to the hollywood reporter the story is about drake discovering some lost city while facing a rival treasure hunter. they encounter mutations that are decendents of spainards and wait for it....NAZIS.
since we are on the subject of game based movies i must say the 3d in resident evil afterlife is great. the part where that creature from re5 throws that axe almost made me freak. the production values in that movie are great. it was actually shot with the avatar system. that's why it looks so good.

Russell seemed to want to turn Drake into a member of a treasure hunting crime family. Yes, crime family.
I'll kind of echo Worlds, I think Fillion would work well precisely because he won't overshadow the movie.

Also as highland pointed out that plot sounds oddly familiar... O yeah we've played it in the first Uncharted.

The rest of the cast may not be perfect, but so long as Fillion is Drake for the fans, I don't care what big stars they have cast for all the other characters!!!!

the actors of the 3 main characters in the harry potter series where pretty much unheard of before harry potter. the films succeeded because it was written well, its a solid film and the actors where good. in the same way uncharted has such potential, so it doesnt need big actors.
oh but im putting my money on this being a massive c0ck up, if anyone was wondering

I say this new guy, whether he plays games or not, must be forced to get through Uncharteds 1 and 2 and maybe 3 before he is allowed to sign on. He'll see there isn't much that needs changing, just a new story with familiar characters. We need a good casting director too, like Papsidera.

anyways, casting and story will be important. the whole crime family thing seemed kind of weird for an uc movie, but o russel has made some good movies. i still don't see them going with fillion if this a big budget production. they will want a bigger name tied to the project. that's just how hollywood works.

that's a good point. no i'm not expecting tom cruise or brad pitt. that would overshadow the production. jurassic park still had good casting and decent actors in it imo.
i actually did some research and found an article in variety that says wahlberg is probably out, and now limitless star bradley cooper is strong possibility.

I never got comfortable with the thought of Wahlberg in this role, I was afraid this movie would be too lightweight for him. This demise of Russell may turn for the better for this movie!

But, Hollywood wants big actors to go with their big budget Hollywood flicks. If not Fillion, at least make it Bradley Cooper.
Here's hoping Neil Burger can make a movie that sticks more to the original story from the games. I'm glad O'Russell is out, no one seemed too happy with his direction, and Sony made a good call by finding someone else.

For all this Nathan Fillion talk you all very well know he's not gonna get that part they're gonna go find some semi-big name actor to draw in a crowd, hell the way Hollywood works I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they through Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in there somewhere.
Now can this be a success, of course it can, and while fans of the games will most likely end up disappointed moviegoers won't they're probably like it. I will probably end being as popular as the Resident Evil movies which gross more money with each installment.
