PSXE Poll Update: Uncharted Is The Best Of The Generation

It's undoubtedly one of the most impressive achievements in the video game industry, as the Uncharted series epitomizes the term, "interactive entertainment."

In our most recent poll, we wanted to know how you rated Naughty Dog's award-winning series. Is it truly the greatest of all time? The best of the current generation? Overrated? The answer is clear: a surprising number of gamers would indeed label Uncharted as the best franchise in the history of the industry, and the majority definitely agree that it's the best of the generation. Well, considering that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was well ahead of a competitive pack (in our minds, anyway), and we expect nothing less from Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, we're inclined to agree. It's absolutely the best of the generation; as for the best of all time, it would have to contend with the likes of Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, etc.

The new poll addresses the possibility of a new PlayStation on the horizon. We don't really believe one will release next year (contrary to new "evidence"), but when it does, what would you be willing to pay for it? When the PS3 launched at $600, that really didn't go over well and despite inflation and better technology and all the rest of it, they may not try that again... But maybe they will. And how much would you shell out?

To be honest I don't really know how much. Money is tight now so, I really don't know. I probably won't be able to get one when it does release if it's at a high price point, but you bet I will try very hard to get one that's for sure.

I would pay more than 600 because I plan on having more money by then. I payed more for my computer and that can barley handle minecraft. I want cutting edge tech that won't expire every six months like cell phones do. A cheaper console means more sacrifices and I'm tired of PC fanboys looking down on console tech.

500-600 I would pay, but I think it would be unwise to release at any more than 400. PS3 was a huge investment in tech for them though, and I think a PS4 will simply be a more powerful PS3 that is a little more developer friendly. With the Cell already in place and shrinking, that shouldn't cause a massive price point.

all depends on the games available at launch. if MGS4 had been a launch title for PS3 i gladly would have paid $500. but residence fall of man ? sorry wasn't gonna happen. so yeah if theres a major AAA game i'd go 500. but the PS4 probably won't be as big a leap forward like PS2 to PS3 was. technology wise so sony probably wouldn't charge 600$ again when its not a major step forward

Residence? Resistance Fall of Man was a good 1st Party game and I was glad to have paid what I did for my ps3. MGS4 would have been more than welcomed but gaming isn't a cheap hobby, people should know that by now.

I think resistance was a perfect launch title for a new title. Yeah it needed something the fans knew about to be a system seller. But as a unproven launch title it faired very well scoring high from critics as well.

I don't want a next-gen console, at all. I'm okay with this generations graphics, heck i was okay with the ps2 generation. I just want good games, i don't care for graphics and i don't have an eye for detail.

Given the rate at which PC gaming have evolved(in terms of graphic hardware and software) as its currently 2 generations ahead of the current consoles, there is no way realistically or economically that either Sony or Microsoft can bring to market machines that are cheap if they want to keep up.

Another factor to consider is the cost making games. The cost of game production have gone up by a factor 10 that its driving more and more developers out of business. In fact predict the next round of consoles will not not only drive more developers out business, but i see the once untouchable publishers becoming casualties also. You can count a publisher like Activision as not being a casualty given string of commercial successes they've had in the past few years.

I'd be willing to put down $600 again if it were as big a leap that the PS3 was from the PS2. It's odd, usually almost five years into a console life I'm on pins and needles looking forward to the new one, but I'm still very satisfied with my PS3. It just feels to early to say PS4 yet.

No more than $500AUD and no earlier than 2014. I'm sure that the PS3 will deliver awesome experiences until then, and then there is a huge backlog of games to get through. Then, I'll get to play catch up on the PS4 as well...

I think it's unfair that people are fine splashin out $600 on mobiles and pcs but when it comes to games consoles that's too much.

I'd like to see the playstation become accepted as the premium product it is so Sony can give us all they want to give.

I mean we don't get a new PS every year at $600 like iPhones for example.
I think it's excellent value seeing as how long these entertainment systems last.

OH GOD YES! I know this tool that bought an iPhone recently, on a two year plan that will cost him $2400 over the course. By then, there will have been another two iterations of the damn thing and he'll be suckered into buying the new one. And here, he's mentioned that he wants to get a 360 to complete his current-gen set of consoles.

predictable.
that actually sums the game up quite well.
thats what i always hated about uncharted, you could see what was coming next 2 days before you actually played it!
i know thats kinda the point, ND wanted to set out and make a typical hollywood blockbuster film, but thats the problem its far too much of a hollywood blockbuster film.
all flashy visual effects and explosions, and no story or substance.
in other words a michael bay film.
;)

as for a price on the ps4 i cant see it releasing for less than 700 AUD.
knowing what sony are like, they always like to take the USD price then almost double it (even though the AUD is actually worth MORE then the USD now) so id be shocked if its any less then that.
especially considering the ps3, now, 5 years after release is still 500 bucks!
could get a 250GB 360 with kinect, a black wii, and 6 games for that price!

If it is worth it, I'll pay it. Simple as that.

What I'd be willing to fork out depends entirely on the specifications of the machine + available games and what I believe that to be worth.
Coming from the PC world I do not mind *at all* to pay more than 6000, if I believe the machine to be worth it. It would just be a matter of saving up enough to actually get to buy it.

But yeah, 6000 kroner is slightly below 1100 USD. 600USD is approx 3300 kroner.

$500 tops on a ps4. i think consumers have shown they will pretty much reject a $600 console when the competition offers one with similar features and at a lower price point.

What similar features are we talking about? Don't nit pick either. At $600 the PS3 was released at a good price a little steep for most but consider the price of a single stand alone blu-ray player around the same time. The 360 released at $500 I believe, with blu-ray alone that $600 price tag is justified. We are talking about a gap of a year between the two consoles, it's unfair to compare the price tags of the PS3 at launch and the 360's price tag 1 year and a few months after its release to eachother.

let's see. the 360 offered hd games that looked just as good and a lot games that looked better than the ps3 versions at the time. it had a better online service, too. so i would say what was similar is the ability to play hd games, and go online.

apparently that was enough to satisfy gamers, and most chose the cheaper 360. if gamers really cared about the blu ray then i think that would have been enough to tilt things in sony's favor becuase like you said a $600 ps3 was a great value.

i think the lesson learned there would be if you make a console that costs $100 more than the competition you better make damn sure multiplat games look just as good on your system no matter what extra features it offers. preferably the games should look better on the more expensive system, not worse. it's primarily a games machine, and that's what drives sales. those poorly performing multiplats combined with the ps3's price point did a lot of damage to the ps brand early this gen.

I would pay $400-$600. With what Sony has learned with this generation so far I think they would be able to keep the price of the PS4 within a reasonable range and have plenty of launch titles so that there would be something for everyone when it comes out.

price is a sensitive subject for me becuase of the way i watched things unfold at the start of this generation. i think the ps3's initial price point gave ms a huge oppurtunity, many gamers soured on the ps brand and it helped drive a lot of the early negativity surrounding the ps3.
i often wonder how differently things would have turned out if sony would have made the ps3 easier to develope for, and a little cheaper. i'm almost certain you wouldn't have seen sony sitting in last place with almost a 50% loss in marketshare.

I voted yes on the Uncharted Poll, and it seems as did a lot of people.

Very few games have actually made me CARE about the characters like Uncharted has.

With the PS4, who would I be fooling? I'll pay whatever they charge me as I have done with every Playstation. I would bet the majority here would do the same.

I think sony knows the $600 price tag was a little steep and they will do whatever they can next generation to make it as low as possible. We all know the Sony was losing money on the PS3 at first so it's tough to say it was too high a price tag. But again I think Sony knows what to do next gen and has a plan to keep the price fair and marketable but still not lose a ton on it.

With that said I bet we see about the same price as the PS3. My guess between $400-$600.

I would pay anything if it is worth it. If they come up with a PS4 that doubles the power of the PS3 I would pay a lot. $600 for a gaming platform that is guaranteed to last me 5 years is not to much to ask.

The last PC I bought cost $1500 as I built it myself with the best parts at the time. I am still using it 4 years later but it is outdated and won't play the new games maxed.
I would be so happy if I could play Infamous 2 or Prototype 2 or some other open world game where I could see extremely far with a massive draw distance and NO POP UP or FOG! I would pay $1000 for something like that. The immersion would be unmatched!

I just hope it is similar to the current PS3 as far as direction. Please don't make it like the Wii! Stay the PS course and just give us a more technically strong juggernaut we can all be proud of.
Uncharted series best of this gen, hands down.

I have no idea what i will pay for the PS4. As long as one thing that is almost gareented is that it will play PS3 games. at that point it won't need to play PS2 and PS1 games.
Well of course i see psone and maybe PS2 game downloads. But wait. if that happens won't it beable to read the disks?

I know that they are looking at the PS move and I'm fure they will make a controllers like that for it(come with the system) and of course the Duelsock 4.

the amount of money I pay just depends on how money is when it launces. looking back in their history it should be out next year. But I don't know if they will do that. I don't see it happening at all.

my prediction is the PS4 will launce for the holiday season of '13 or early '14.

Does any one have any ideas what the next Xbox launch price will be?
Oh and when Nintendo will launch a console that will beable to compete in the next gen.

there is no way that the Wii U(horible name!) is starting off the next gen of gaming. i mean is the same BASIC Wii with a new controler.
