Black Ops Is The "Fastest Finished" Video Game

We've seen polls for all sorts of things. But this might be a first, and it's worthy of discussion.

A new poll was conducted at video game comparison marketplace website Playr2.com; it asked gamers to estimate how long it took them to complete single-player adventures for a title. In this way, they took data from 1,671 people and compiled a list of the "fastest-finished" games. Check out the summary, which shows that Call of Duty: Black Ops is at the top of the list: only 2 days on average was required to finish the campaign. And here's the Top 10 fastest completed titles according to the research:

1. Call of Duty Black Ops – 2 days
2. Terminator Salvation – 2.5 days
3. Resident Evil 5 – 3.2 days
4. God of War 2 – 3.3 days
5. Uncharted – 3.8 days
6. Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands – 4.1
7. Assassin’s Creed II – 5 days
8. Uncharted – 6.6 days
9. Metal Gear Solid 3 – 6.8 days
10. Grand Theft Auto IV – 8.2 days

Said Playr2.com founder Simon Kilby:

"Games can be incredibly addictive once you start playing them, so with this research we really wanted to look into which games gamers had completed the fastest. Given the huge amount of hype that surrounded Call of Duty Black Ops’ release last year it wasn’t surprising to see it at the top of the fastest completion chart, as many would have played this until completion as soon as they’d unboxed it."

It would help to know which of those Uncharted titles are where, but we get the idea. Also, it's interesting to see super long games on the list, like ACII and GTAIV; that sorta proves how hooked gamers can get on those awesome open-world sandbox titles. We wouldn't be surprised if inFamous wasn't far down on the list.

Yes, the original Ninja Gaiden on NES. I wouldn't believe him either, had I not seen the video clip he made of it way back when, and then again a few years back, he did it seemlessly on his PC via an emulator, just to see if he still 'had it'. lol.

The Mario World thing was super easy though, hell, even I know how to do that speed run heh.

Heh, nah, if you do it right, every single move/jump/attack is timed exactly right so there's absolutely no wasted movement. My brother, admittedly is far superior in some games than myself (although, I dominate all in CoD United Offensive and Tekken 3, those two, even my brother bows down to my mastery lol)

But yeah, watching him do it was pretty amazing. He can even beat the original Zelda without having to resort to walkthroughs OR reading any of the text lol. He just knows where to go by heart. Long story short, my brother memorized Ninja Gaiden and the Legend of Zelda lol.

I think a few of these games being on the list isn't a sign of how addictive their gameplay is but rather how short their SP portions are.

I find that disturbing. I enjoy playing a game, then taking a break to do something else and take in what I've experienced thus far before going back into it. I'm one of those "take my time, find everything" kind of guys though.

I think we should remember that Rockstar had that thing where they wanted players to try to get done within the first week. Didn't they? Couldn't you get a key to Liberty City? I think you had to 100% it though. So that may be why GTAIV has 8.2 days.

How does Uncharted rank 5th and 8th at the same time? Do we add the numbers together, divide by two and that's the result??

As for the 'super long games', AC2 and GTAIV don't require you to finish all the side missions in order to beat the game. In fact, in GTAIV, you don't even have to do 'everything' in order to obtain a 100% rating, which is kind of lame. Anyone who went through Vice City and San Andreas for 100% knows that GTAIV was NOTHING...though, I can't wait for GTAV...given the franchises history, the first game on a new engine is always primative in comparison to the 2nd and 3rd games. Of course, the improvements to the gameplay in IV, are what really excite me about the prospects of V, simply because so much improved from San Andreas engine-wise.

Give a few more years of dev and tinkering...yeah, GTAV is going to kick major major a$$.

Btw, just to be fair, I can still beat the original call of duty on veteran with a pistol and a bolt action rifle. So, flying through the CoD series has never been 'difficult', by any means.

2 days for Black Ops? WOW that's really stretching it, it only took me a few hours. GTA IV 8 days? It took me 2 days, I couldn't put the controller down for that one.

Oops, I thought the article header meant BO was developed incredibly fast. Which would explain the buggiest FPS engine to date.

I could justify a speed run through a game after I complete it from 110%.

If you rush it can be done in about 3 and a half hours with a friend. I think my friend and I's best time was 3 hours and 40 minutes.

Upon your first playthrough though, it will take anywhere from 5 to 7 hours.

Ben its hardly questionable considering the only way to unlock the infinite rocket launcher is to beat the game in under 4 hours... my fastest time is 2:59 or 3:01 lol

It's not a literal translation. A day isn't equivalent to 24 hours in this poll.

...and you know, people have lives. They have things to do. If you're beating a 7-8 hour game in one day, you are either a student, unemployed, or have no life. ;)

Well I would have to disagree, paying bills and taking care of yourself is pat of life. If youre 21+ and still live with your parents, have no job and theyre basically taking care of you while you do nothing but sit on your butt and game all day THEN you have no life.. but if youre going to work 8 hours a day, 40 days a week have your own place, paying your own bills and taking care of yourself whatever you choose to do with your remaining free time if your business, even if that means sitting infront of your PS3 in all your free time. Id still consider that person to have a life. Because at least hes out of his/her parents basement and taking care of HIMSELF like any able bodied responsible adult should be.

So, are they finished quickly because gamers can't put them down, or because they are short games, or because they are easy, or because...

Uncharted 2 might take that short a time to finish is you played straight through, and didn't do much for the days involved except play the game. Black Ops on the other hand has a very short SP campaign. the point being that this list mixes apples, oranges, limes and pears. The reasons for a quick play through vary by game.

How can you compare UC2, which is all about the SP experience, with COD which is all about the MP?

Of course COD is going to be short, because that's not the focus.

Do you know what gets me? Why cant different titles co-exist? There's a market for all.

I'm even enjoying sniper ghost warrior at the mo. It's never gonna win any awards, but its still fun in it's own way.

What the article doesn't seem to say, unless I missed it....is finishing defined as opening scene to credits, or opening scene to credits including all trophies etc. Blops only took me about 9 hours, but I've only completed about 30% of the trophies.

AC2 in 5 days! wow took me a few weeks. the fastest i ever finished a game was uncharted 2 got it wednesday evening finished friday afternoon. GTA IV i think i was like 9 or 10 days i was so into it

K/D ratio combined with Win Ratio (when -BOTH- are considered) are fairly accurate measurements to determine who is good and who isn't.

I say both, because if K/D is good, but win ratio is bad, it probably means you play only to get kills and don't really contribute to the team as a whole. Win ratio alone could be used, I suppose, but someone like me who ONLY plays when other friends are online, are likely to win often because I play with the same people over and over. So I know what to expect from them and how to play with them.

I think these polls leave out how many hours are counted in "redoing" the same levels to make it past a save point. The game timers don't reflect that when showing how much time you took to complete it. Also these times are probably on "easy". I like to play on "normal" at least. It's no fun if the AI is totally nerfed lol.

It's not about game timers or literal hours, though. It's about how many days after release was the game completed. Even the term "completed" is vague. Does this mean front to back, or a platinum trophy or all achievements?

2 Days for Black Ops seems awfully long. I beat Modern Warfare in oh 4 hours.... From what I've heard they haven't exactly gained time in SP modes...

And Terminator only took me 2 days because how irritatingly terrible the game is on Hard with THE worst save points I've EVER seen in a game.

The majority of top selling games have a campaign of 5-8 hours, could be less or more depending if you're rushing through the game or taking your time and enjoying it. eg cut scenes, side missions etc. Games in that category would be Killzone, Uncharted, Gears of War, and the all mighty powerful Black Ops, which I enjoyed btw.

one of the shortest, most diappointing games ive ever played!
took me allot longer to finish black ops then it did KZ3, and if you crank up the difficulty its also allot harder.
not to mention the zombie mode,so much fun blowing he undead, and some of the presidents remarks are so funny!
COJ the cartel was really short too, only took me like 5 hours to finish.

Completed likely doesn't mean -beat the campaign on normal.

Besides, these are measurements of how long games were completed after release, I believe. "Completed" likely means platinum or all achievements. Seeing as how my friend beat Black Ops campaign the same day it released. (took no time, really)

The game I finished the quickest ever has to be Parrapa the Rapper 2 for PS2, haha. Two hours timed. Then again, this wasn't as challenging. The closest, and newest, game I've beaten the quickest was inFAMOUS 2. I beat it on both good and evil the very same day I received it. Platinumed it 4 days later. I was seriously obsessed with that one haha.

I'm not necessarily a gamer that rushes through a game, just a naturally fast-paced gamer. Besides, I always usually go through the game more than once to see everything I may have missed. And, in my second playthrough, I usually deliberately take it slow.

As for the list, I can agree with Black Ops being number one. The storyline was super easy and somewhat fun. Doesn't really have those "stand out" moments, but maybe they've been shoved out of the way by its massive MP...

the first time i played black ops story it took me 3 days. the times after that it took me only a few hours to do it. the shortest game for me was Jak 2.

I would like to know what "2 days" is, do they mean 48 hours, or 2 8 hour sessions, or 2 6 hous sessions or 2 4 hour sessions, etc, etc, etc...

I just finished my first play through of Call of Juares: The Cartel in just over 8 hours total play time, awesome game that makes me want to play as the other 2 characters.

As with some of the other posters, some of the games listed took me much longer to finish than are posted here, but then again I have been averaging less than 4 hours of game play per day because of work and life. GoW3 took me a good 2.5 weeks; ACII, a good 3 weeks, GTAIV I still haven't finished but have played over 125 hours(admitedly there is a LOT more to do than just the story missions and I got caught up in all that stuff)...

So, I wonder just how accurate this "survey" is...
