Soul Calibur V: Combat Changes, New Characters Revealed
Soul Calibur V is gonna be great. We're just all sorts of convinced.
To learn a little more about it, visit the PlayStation Blog where the game's producer, Hisaharu Tago, gave us a look at a couple new characters. Plus, he talked about the new logo for Project Soul; the original team was disbanded after SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny released for the PSP, but the fans wanted more Soul Calibur. Hence, the new logo is an appreciation to the fans who stepped up and demanded the team get back together; now, SCV represents a "new era and direction."
He then talks about changes to the battle system. The game will be "faster and sharper" and if you've seen some of the gameplay trailers, you've probably spotted the upgrades. One of the new features is the Quick Move high-speed evasion maneuver, and we always love the spiffy combos one can execute. But don't you worry about these changes bringing an imbalance to the experience:
"We know that innovation causes not only expectation, but concern as well. Please be reassured that we understand that characters fans are used to must not be completely changed, and that these innovations must not make the game unbalanced. We are working day and night to ensure that the game will be well balanced and make for an exciting and satisfying gamepay experience."
Tago then shows us three characters; two of which are new. He reassures everyone that Ivy will return and look very much the same; "her eternal existence is promised." The two new characters are Natsu and Z.W.E.I. The latter gives us a hint as to the weapon-based combat; any sword we've seen with "Zwei-" in the title has always been a massive two-handed blade.
Anyway, good to see Ivy. She's the best.

Then again, I'm liking that new Ivy design, one can never have too much lace and cleavage in a video game...
No, but seriously, as long as the core game play doesn't feel too different, and as long as we have the create a soul modes and please, please, please, please a decent story for once, I will be a happy gamer.

I chose that one just because I love the character creator and want it even better, but I didn't think it was bad in IV at all as I'm sure you've heard me say before.

Nightmare is my second choice behind Astaroth, so i may take him or her up if she's the one. Mainly people are going by the evil female voice on the new trailer.
I don't remember her being truly evil in SC4 tho

I'm not to sure about the idea of a character affecting my purchase of a game when there's plenty of others... Besides, it has been implied in the last Comic-Con trailer that she'll become the new host for Soul Edge [aka Nightmare]. She's one of my mains too and I'm more curious than anything to see how she'll turn out

This is nothing and why? In Soul Edge every character had a evasion maneuver where you could dodge an incoming attack and at times break free of holds. With this said its obvious to me that they are getting rid of the 8-way run

They also showed Brave edge and Critical Edge. Brave edge takes a move from your arsenal and makes it stronger, or you recover faster from it. Somewhat like the ex moves on SF4. Critical Edges are similar to super moves like on SF4, but work a bit similar to the critical finishes off Soul Calibur 4. Each work off a new bar, up to 2 bars in the video, brave moves take half a bar, criticals 1 bar

Normally I'm not keen on big change in franchises, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they implement this faster battle mechanic for SC. I think it's a good idea for this type of game since fighters can get stale, gamers are twitchier every day, SC has solid moves but can still be played with button mashing, and ya just don't want to be accused of selling the same game over and over again like certain other developers.

yoda and darth vader were in the last one, so who could they pick next?
never got into the last one, picked it up since it was the only game releasing that month, and in fact the only game releasing in like 2 months before and after!
but ended up taking it back a few days after, just does not offer the in depth and complex system you get from MK or tekken or even street fighter.
to me theres only ever been one fighting game!
MK, it just offers everything!
tekken and street fighter are ok, but they just offer the arcade styled depth fighting system.
they dont offer the side pieces that MK always has had.

The roster is abit light but the indepth fighting & extremely deep customisation more than make up for it. I just wish SEGA would release the freakin' thing to consoles.
On SCV, obviously i cannot wait for it, the new characters looks decent especially that Devil Maxi looking guy, can't say i am digging Taki's supposed replacement though. Also glad to see a series icon return in Ivy. I reckon there are good signs ahead for this game but it's inevitable that some big characters will miss out, i fear Taki is one of them.
But i'm sure i will get over it.

allot of fighting games out there have a better fighting system then MK, but they dont offer the other things that only it does.
its like having one gold medal, or 500 silver ones.
sure the golds better, but id rather have very good and lots of it, then only one of better.
