4 Possible Exclusives For The Launch Of PlayStation 4

The importance of a solid launch lineup for a new piece of hardware can't be understated.

For the sake of argument, let's accept the predictions of most analysts, who say the PlayStation 4 will launch between 2013 and 2014. Considering the time gap, let's see what Sony exclusives might be ready for that time frame; the PS4 will undoubtedly need a few big hitters right out of the gate.

Gran Turismo 6

If we take Kazunori Yamauchi's reputation for being a perfectionist and the sheer amount of time involved to create a franchise entry, it's not a stretch to assume GT6 won't be ready for a few years. It'd be an especially alluring title for the PS4 launch because it's almost guaranteed to haul down high review scores and big sales numbers. This is one of the most popular franchises in history, remember.

Uncharted 4

Hardware launches are typically found around the holidays; Sony will likely want to release new Uncharted titles in that same window, and we're talking about the most critically acclaimed series of the generation. Sony well understands the importance of what has become a flagship and suddenly iconic franchise; to have a new installment ready for the new PlayStation would be epic. Naughty Dog and the PS4 would make for a lovely couple.

Killzone 4

Guerrilla may be working on a new mystery project but they will invariably make a fourth Killzone, and it should fall into the 2013/2014 time frame. The PlayStation 3 launched with an original exclusive IP in Resistance: Fall of Man, and this generation has proven the necessity of big shooters. Plus, KZ3 was a massive technical achievement; can you imagine what Guerrilla could do with the PS4...?

Metal Gear Solid 5

Good God. Just think... These projects take time and like Yamauchi, Hideo Kojima is a perfectionist and won't be happy with anything less than a near-flawless production. Along with Gran Turismo, this is one of PlayStation's original exclusive masterpieces. To have a fifth entry available when the PS4 hits store shelves would make for an explosion of interest. Long-time Sony fans and new gamers alike would be impressed.

Please let KH3 be exclusive. If KH3 somehow uses the engine for FFvsXIII, then it should have a good chance of being ps3 exclusive... Unless of course SE is gonna release a really bad port for the 360, or make an engine from ground up (plus multiple discs), which I think is unlikely because that would cause a big delay, knowing MS would probably demand simultaneous release like FFXIII did.

Then again, KH has a bit of a cartoony feel on their games, so I'm not as confident on the fact that if it's necessary for them to use FFvsXIII's engine. It looks like a game that could easily be mult-plat unless the game somehow have a bunch of content and need advance physics and such. This is what I worry most about when a game is multi-plat, which is the fact that content may be cut to prevent too much overkill on the DVDs. I mean how many ps3 exclusives are less than 10gb? Other than that, I wouldn't mind too much.

Trust me kh3 or ff7 remake wont make it. Its better after ffversusXIII comes out sony gives ps4 development kits to nomura's team so they could build a new engine, at least it has a chance of staying exclusive to ps4. Or kh3 and FF7 remake will come out during the ps4 but on ps3.

Level 5 could make a new JRPG for the PS4. Something genre defining, something that takes all that they learned from WKC, draws on some real story writing talent and boosts the visuals budget by a factor of 4. Could be a console seller, could be very popular in Japan, especially if it manages to weave in some of the Monster Hunter like addictiveness and charm of the PSP/DS RPGs.

If the ps4 is the only only hardware to support super gigs of data on its disc, and Kojima doesn't want to be limited or make multiple discs for the other consoles, then I believe there's a good chance of being exclusive. MGS4 maxed out the double layered BDD, so imagine MGS5.

It would actually be a shame if we didn't see most of those games on PS3. I know that development time is an issue but it's sad when some games only see 1 or 2 releases in a console generation. Then again it's even more sad when a franchise sees like 6.

I just hope inFamous 3 makes it this generation since Sucker Punch is taking a break for their new IP.

What about God of War 4? As playSTATION said above. That is (for me) one of the few console sellers nowdays. And also, imagine a launch of PS4 with a FF7 remake? That would be awesome (or bad? given the time left for PS4 to come).

I agree, Beamboom, that it would be better for gamers to have a new high quality IP, but they take time to establish themselves. People just go for what they know.

Look at the first Uncharted. Sure, -now- it'd be a system seller, but I remember when it first came out. Was a great game recommended by all, but it took some time before it became well known as a must buy title. Even though the press scores and people who played it loved it, I think it took most people a little while to buy into it.

When UC2 came out, now THAT caused waves at release.

A new IP might be a good reason to get a PS4 eventually, but it won't cause waves immediately at release. It will just be 1 item in a collection of reasons to get into the next gen. This was the case with the first Uncharted or LBP. Neither were system sellers at launch, but they became a part of a collection of must-haves and as additional reasons to get a PS3.

That's true, Underdog. The masses need something they can relate to. We just need to look at the music and movie charts to get that confirmed.

It's a shame though! Cause Ben may be 100% right in his list being overall system sellers, but none of them are of *any* interest to me, not on a "system seller scale". :(

I personally want GT6 to make it this gen. Like GT2 and GT4, the main framework is in place for its respective current console generation, and all there is to it is to explode it with content (e.g more cars, tracks, races, etc.). Kaz also said a lot of stuff was cut into the making of GT5, so it's a bit weird if he decides to save it for next gen when he could just make it for the ps3, after all their hard work in making its in-game engine.

That sounds reasonable, but how often is a game a prologue to a next-gen game? If that's the case, GT6:P will probably run on GT5's engine, and GT7, on an engine that will probably be built from ground-up for the ps4. PD only has about 150 employees, and they don't get much help at all, so unless PD increases their staff dramatically, I don't see how they're going to get an engine up and running that quick.

Also, developers would probably need about 2 years in advance to get their development kits for the ps4 if Sony wants any chance of them releasing at launch, and to be of quality they're known for. That means PD, Kojima, Naughty Dog, and Guerrilla would already have it by now.

GT6 will happen on the PS3, and my guess is either later 2012 or early 2013.

I honestly believe PD will blow the doors off the genre with GT6. As you stated, GT5 was a framework for the PS3 versions, and there is nothing left to do but add content.

The driving on GT5 is hands down a top level experience and is unmatched on a console. I believe it was the primary objective for GT5 and took longer to perfect after KY began racing.

GT5 is only missing a few things from making it perfect in my book, and I have a feeling that GT6 will follow GT4's footsteps.

Killzone 4 would be interesting from the Helghast perspective.

The list is pretty good but I really don't see there being a MGS 5. 4 did a beautiful job sowing together the story. I'd also like to see new IPs from Sucker Punch and MM.

Then next year Insominiac, Santa Monica, Quantnic Dreams etc. could release their games the next year. and then you have a nice cycle of exclusives going.

That was a bit of bothersome, but I'm more bothersome on how they (journalists) focused so much on the standard cars. It's like they're focusing on what's not there, instead of what is there. I mean yes, they don't look as polish as the premiums, but they still drive fine, and hey, there's like 200 premiums (which is more than most racing games)! PD could've just left it at premiums only, but I rather have more cars to drive which is what they did for us.

I just hope they won't feel too hesitant in the future to put standard cars in the game because really with the physics of the game, it's a shame to take off hundreds away when they have a choice to port them to a reasonable level. PD has gone to an insane degree of realism in terms of details on their cars now, so sacrifices would have to be made. We can't have a thousand premiums, so if we want 1000 cars to drive, then there would have to standards.

I honestly find fault at GTPlanet. To many people there focused on the bad instead of the good, and I am willing to bet that several so called journalists used forum opinion to influence their review (reinforcing why I only come here).

UGH. The premium v. standard issue. It's a not factor to me with exception of not being able to change the wheels on the standards. On the track (where it matters) there is no difference between the premiums or standards and most of them still look better then other games on track cars. It's a dead issue really.

Unless Sony will be subsidizing the game, there is no way I can see a MGS5 being exclusive to a Sony platform and simpily because Konami as a whole(which include KP) seem to be moving away from the whole idea of plaform exclusives. A good example of this stem from the fact Kojima is considering a MGS game for the Wii U.

I'd love to see a GoW as a release title from Sony Santamonica or someone please get HS2 out on the PS4. Any of the other title would be more than welcomed too. Especially Uncharted 4. Any Sony exclusive actually, including an inFamous 3. Ahh to think about it makes me anxious to see what we get.

As for MGS though, I don't think it will remains exclusive. I'm hopeful it does, but I just don't see it happening the way things are going.

I remember seeing Lair back in 2007 and thinking if this is what a launch game looks like, imagine a few years from now when devs really grasp the system. So, for me Lair was the reason I bought a PS3 for the $600 price tag. It was my love of dragons and the previous two Playstaions that influenced my purchase, however the REAL underlying reason was that I knew if I wanted any more Kratos, then the PS3 was the only way to get it.

If that's the launch titles for the PS4 I'm buying them all even if it costs me $700 for it all.
What I would like to see is GT6:Prologue arrive on the PS3 and and then GT6 come as a Lunch title.
Uncharted 4 would just be amazing launch title, Can't amazing how beautiful it will preform and look on the new tech. Naughty Dog is/should be working on a new IP or old PS title like Crash or something for the PS3 and then start on U4 for the PS4.
KillZone 4 I think Guerrilla should be working on a new IP as well. With Sony's studios working on new IPs they will reach out to those who haven't bought a PS3 jump in. Because everyone who want's to buy one for these games already own one.
And Finally but differently not least! MGS5 This game and GT6 have the best chances of being launch titles for the PS4. But one thing has to happen and is almost guaranteed but not certain, It has to be a exclusive. The Collection is going to the 360, which makes no since unless your going multiplat which scares me. MGS:Rising, which I absolutely hate, mainly because it's going to the 360 but also because it is called Metal Great Solid but the game has no Solid, solid came from Solid Snake, which is not in this game at all.

Well that's what I got to say and that's how I see it.

I don't believe that a single one of those will be anywhere even close to the first year of the PS4. My guess would be a sequel to Sucker Punch's new IP, MM's new IP, Jak 4 from Sanzaru and something fresh from a second/third party developer.

If "launch title" literally means titles that launch on the same day as the new console, then I definitely think it wouldn't be possible either. Taking things in perspective, Uncharted released closed to the end of PS3's first year, and MGS4/KZ2/GT5 well after. These franchise do take time.

If we want to talk about real possibilities then I'd say multi-plat titles like CoD, NFS, Battlefield, Sports game, etc. I don't think ps3 had an exclusive title at launch day, except Motorstorm perhaps.

Well I have stated my opinion on there being a MGS5 many times, the series is over. Namco definatly needs a Tekken 8, I am still expecting Tekken 7 to be released and if that does not satisfy me I'll give up on the series.

Maybe even a DMC 5, so we can just ignore this horrible reboot in the making. I have to admit I cant think of many as I still have a lot of expectations for the PS3,I am expecting at least one title from each main series before the next console is out.

But if the ps4 was the first console of the next generation, wouldn't technically *all* games be exclusives until the next xbox came around?

I'd not be able to resist getting the ps4 was it for example boosting a totally new RPG from BioWare. But if it had to be well known IPs then a title like Crysis 3 would be irresistible. Or the next BioShock. Burnout Paradise 2! Ohh yesss... Or how about a Borderlands, this time as a real mmorpg!

Actually, I don't care if the new Xbox is out and can offer the exact same titles cause I just *know* I'd still prefer the Sony machine. I'd prefer everything about it: The design, the features, psn, the community, everything!
Heck I even find the green covers of the xbox games to be fugly.

i dunno about MGS, konami seem only interested in multiplat games so i wont be surprised if every MGS game is now MP.

KZ4 i doubt it, i cant see GG going back to the killzone series after the flop of the last 2.
sonys put so much weight behind the series, and it really has not stood up to even some of the other ps3 exclusives, let alone other titles out there!
KZ just has not gained the popularity and fanbase to warrant a continuation into the next generation.

uncharted 4 i doubt, ND always create new IPs for new consoles so id be surprised if we saw another uncharted after 3.
plus all the rumors going around that drake will be killed off and i cant see the series continuing without him.
plus ND always take their sweet time making there engines and games, so i doubt will be seeing a ND game as a launch title.
maybe a little after, but no way available at launch.

GT6 is already in development for the ps3, so i doubt it will shift to the ps4.
no way GT7 will be released as a launch title for the same reason as uncharted, kaz is a perfectionist it will take far too long to build the engine, get the game up to his standards, by then the ps4 would of been out for at least a year!

would of been much better to put reistance 4 as a launch title, especially since insomniac normally releases a game a year, and resistance was a launch title for the ps3.
i can definitely see us getting another resistance game after 3, maybe hopefully on the chimeran planet.
ok earth has lost, its in total turmoil but instead of trying to fight them off our turf why not fire off a kamikaze mission to destroy there home world, and hopefully saving ours in the process?

a new J&D game, a new crash bandicoot game helmed by naughty dog, a new manhunt game, a new medievil game, a new GEX game, a new spyro game by insomniac, a new pandemonium game, a new oddworld game, a new bugs and taz time busters game.

i wish there was a system that could run old games perfectly, and a easy way to get them.
i enjoy older game so much more then i enjoy newer ones, i mean i spent all of last night on my PSP playing bugs and taz time busters.
most fun ive had playing a game since infamous!

sigh, hate seeing titles of articles like this.

i bought my PS3 because i expect it to last for a long time. now every1 wants a PS4 and sony barely made back the money on these things.

as for exclusives that will launch, well i doubt any of these will b at launch if there is a new system.

but i guess it is nice to speculate

Well, to be fair, RPGs have historically taken time to start rolling in any generation. AAA RPGs at a system launch typically doesn't happen; such games take a ton of time.

By the way, I hope people (not here, but anywhere else) aren't stupid enough to think this article is proposing that all 4 of these titles will be available at the PS4's launch.

It's just the possibility of any ONE of them being ready for launch.

I think we will see those games on PS3. If they are planned for PS4 I'm sure we will see them a few years after launch. So I say, release them for the PS3 already.

Hi everybody i'm new here, i've been reading at this site for some time now. I like the idea of an MGS5, if it happens though i don't think it will be a sequel, remember MGS3? that was a prequel to the entire series. MGS5 could be a remake of the msx Metal Gear games.

Nah, MGS5 wouldn't be a MG remake. If they were going to do that, they would just call it MG remake (or something :D)

The Big Boss story has been told by way of MGS3, Portable Ops, and Peace Walker.

MGS5 would be something new, POSSIBLY with Snake.

How about Agent by Rockstar exclusively on the PS4. It has been a couple of years since any news on this title. Rockstar, just have it ready as a PS4 exclusive release title. This will sell systems like GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas were big system sellers for the PS2.

Sony wouldn't want all of their launch titles to be sequels, nor would they want some of their biggest franchises to realise all at the same time, as launch titles.

Make it awesome, yes! Introduce a new type of disc, no! There's absolutely no reason to with blu-ray being more than good enough for any game.

What Sony should do this time around which clearly cost them big this gen is put a good, modern graphics chip on it, and a lot more memory, to make sure that's not a bottleneck anymore...

ENOUGH! That's enough with the Gran Turismo already, jeez. The game never was worth 2 cents to me. Sure it looks okay, but the gameplay always blew and the music too. Anything will do besides another disappointing Gran Turismo. The other 3 titles mentioned above are inevitable, but I wouldn't make them launch titles. Sony needs something fresh and new instead of lingering on right off the bat. They should introduce four brand new blowout titles, then follow up with the others. Everyone is gonna want a new metal gear, resistance, killzone, call of duty, final fantasy, silent hill, castlevania, fallout, elder scrolls, and resident evil no doubt. Yes, and a new uncharted as well, didn't forget ya naughty dog. But, some people try to keep up with their game collections and it makes it hard to do when they keep coming out with new sequels before you're done with the rest. Also, bringing back great games that were forgotten; with better graphics and options is one short way to make it easy on the "fresh ideas" option. Like maybe a new bloodrayne or a new shinobi, or even a new galerians. These were great games that got little credit. Think sony, think.

I'm not sure. I was reading at http://playstation4.net that PS4 will be released in 2014. I think that is fair since they have typically went with a new console every six years, but with it taking so long for the PS3 to take off and Sony claiming it will have 10 years of life span it could put the console in between 2012-2016. I don't see 2012 as a legit release as it is only next year, and Sony hasn't made a profit off PS3 for long. I don't see the rush for a PS4 as games have not come near using all of PS3's power. I would rather wait a few years before they even comment on the PlayStation 4.
