Bowling: MW3 vs. BF3 Is What "Games Have Been Forever"

Gamers are passionate about their hobby. It has been that way for decades.

So in the eyes of Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling, this feud between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 is nothing new. Two big games going at it for fan supremacy...that isn't a new phenomenon, ya know. The bottom line is that you just aren't going to shake Bowling.

"Every game has its passionate userbase...we see it from everybody," Bowling said. In other words, it's hardly a rarity. And when asked if the BF3 fans ever got under his skin, he simply replied- "I wouldn't say it's annoying. It's what it is. It's what games have been forever." They couldn't even get a rise out of him when they mentioned the recent "moderwarfare3.com" unpleasantness. Bowling just repeated- "They are passionate."

Yeah, well, that's all nice and classy and everything. But it's no good for headlines. Where's the mud-slinging? C'mon, someone has to have something nasty to say about the competition. 'sigh'

i've said this before and i'll say again, but bf3 and cod are different games with two different audiences. To further add anybody who have been PC-gaming for a very long time clearly understand that these two franchises have co-existed together for the very longest.

But you have to realize that while both FPS have different core audiences, people like myself will cross over and play both of them.

Since I'm the only HC gamer I know in the real world, if I want to play games with friends I pretty much have to play CoD. And I'm liable to keep trying to break my best bud from his CoD stupor again by getting him BF3 for his Bday so at some point I'll be at his house playing them over beers ya know? If BF3 somehow launches me out of my socks I'll get it for myself.

Activision must have won that battle against the BF3 fan because modernwarfare3 dot com is now empty.

I imagine it's easy to stay cool when you know you could put a pair of night vision goggles on a dog turd and it would still net you over a billion dollars.

I don't recall two video games with so much bashing and hyping between them than BF3 and MW3. I got fanboys friends on both campsites and it's really ridiculous the amount of emails I receive of both hype and comparisons between them. I hope November arrives soon so the war of emails stop.

battlefield 3 vs modern warfare 3

BF3 alot of mulitiplayer awards than Mw3

MW2 has a same graphics than MW2 and no building damages like BF3

New grahics for BF3 alot better than MW3 and not so light than bad company 2

That's not surprising, MW3 will probably literally be the more exciting game of the two given their disciplines within their respective sub-genres.

Yeah. And it's not that I'm not interested in BF3, I am. I just really like the MW campaigns.

Once I get my laptop I will be eager to see the spectacle that I know BF3's graphics will be.

I just hope console gamers realize that the videos they're downloading from PSN and online are from PC. I suspect there may be a nasty backlash if it doesn't convince gamers they're not getting what may have sold them.
For as much hype BF3 is getting, it seems to all be stimulated from it's visuals alone.

Any of the videos being showed of BF3 thats officially on psn is from ps3 footage. Now if you saw it on the ps3 web browser, thats different. The ps3 footage shown of BF3 on Jimmy Fallon still looks significantly better than what they have let slip from MW3

As far as the hype that comes from BF fans, its not just the graphics that they hype, its the quality of the gameplay that they've grown accustomed to, the emphasis on teamwork over lonewolfing it in hopes of achieving that next killstreak above other things. Yes, the visuals are impressive, but its not all the hype is about.

I can play both games with no issues but after flying an apache or a hind, or taking control of a Bradley, its kinda hard for me to stick with CoD. The balance in that game seem to be outta wack. It would be awesome if they did some beta testing for MW3 on all systems so we can avoid broken online gameplay soon after release like we tend to experience with the last few CoD games.

Also hope the story is as good as MW1, MW2's story lacked compared to the original

No, the last 1080p trailer I downloaded from PSN called "Battlefield3 FrostbiteEngine Highlights trailer" was definitely not PS3 footage. Don't even pretend to believe it. The trailer is clearly capturing footage from a 60FPS source and is showing a rendering resolution way above 720p. If BF's PS3 games can be rendered like that every time then BF has just earned every year's graphics of the year awards until the next gen.

For EA & activision this is an advertising war, while it's true that one game will be better than the other from a quality standpoint, from a sales standpoint it's who ever can advertise the most on american idol (or whatever the kids are watching these days, lol). If i had to pick one it would be battlefield 3, mainly for the realism it will offer.

EUROinvASIAN. Exactly. I hope for EA's sake they don't do any attack adds against COD, it seems like every time there's a media competition like this one the underdog always does attack adds, and it doesn't help. It's important to show what your product does instead of trying to smear the competition

You want mud-slinging? You have to look at the ass-clowns who are running DICE. They're always bragging about how they think their graphics are king and how the size of their "vistas" are better than everyone else's.

On the other hand, Robert here obviously knows it's a huge privilege to be working on the most popular game of all time and isn't about to screw things up for his career by making asinine comments.

surprised how well BF3 is doing. It makes me happy even.. And I'm proud to be on the good side. (:
It's just the COD franchise has created hate for me towards them And it just get's worse every installment, and those so called "gamers" Who only play the same game and only play online...

If Nov. 2012 comes around and COD still has the same engine, that would be over six years with the same engine.. that's crazy And totally wrong!
And when 2013 comes and the new Battle Field game comes out I hope it's the end of all this bull crap from IW, what ever, gone for good. but It's not all their fault, they have Millions upon millions of kids out there thinking they are real gamers playing there game day in and out, all year long until a new version of a little but better graphics and new perks and maps. It's their fault!

COD use to be my favorite shooter back with COD4... Now I hate the franchise. And I don't like to hate it. But I'm standing for what I believe in..

god to see IW are a little more...... professional.
had to laugh at the BS sledgehammer were spewing a few weeks ago.
after playing a few hours of the alpha all i can say is BF3 is going to kick the royal sh*t out of MW3!
not only graphics wise, but the scale, the damage system, the authenticity, just the feel it gives you.
if MW3 turns out to be a quarter as good as BF3 ill stop gaming forever!
