Catherine's Success Doesn't Rely On Sex Appeal
Catherine has released to widespread critical acclaim and yet, the titillating marketing campaign has managed to spread false rumors and assumptions.
There's no doubt that Atlus went out of their way to present the game as an erotic thriller; the numerous videos and trailers hinting at hot sexcapades and insane nightmares have captured the eye of many a gamer. Furthermore, they used the blonde temptress Catherine (and not Vincent or his steady girlfriend, Katherine) as the official PR lady for the game. Yes, the game is named after her, of course, but the associations involved have had negative repercussions.
I don't like to believe that those who actually read reviews are being misled. No reviewer is out there is telling you the game is cool because of the steamy stuff. And do you know why? Because it really isn't half as steamy as the advertising hinted. You never actually see anything; Atlus didn't sacrifice its integrity for some T&A. That really didn't happen. But those who don't read reviews and have seen pictures and trailers typically have the wrong impression. They believe people like the game for only one reason, and maybe that reason is even blinding them to certain flaws.
Well, it ain't true. Catherine is great for a whole lot of reasons, and in my eyes, not one of those reasons has anything to do with Vincent and Catherine in bed. And besides, as I said, thanks to some clever camera work, you never see "full" anything. The story requires certain scenes and they're well handled and believe it or not, done with class. The rest of the game is what matters: the gameplay, story, characters, and freaky atmosphere. The substance is there, scoffers. Just play it and see.

Last night I had "the Dream"
Climbing, moving blocks, was that a sheep that just fell by?
Yea, perhaps I shouldn't play right before going to bed, but this is the first game in a while that actually challenges me! And I like a good challenge!
The story is great and the characters are well written. This game reminds me of the movie "Eyes wide Shut"
Ben, should I be worried that I'm having the dream?

I love Catherine. I fell in love with this game way back when I imported it. To even see the game getting some great scores here in the states is awesome. Maybe Atlus tried to go after a wider audience to quickly with a game that might not appeal to them, but at least it's selling. I just want Persona 5 already. Gimmie Atlus please!!!
