Say Goodbye To Commando Perk In Modern Warfare 3

When it comes to Call of Duty, what are your favorite perks? Is Commando one of them?

If so, be prepared to go without when Modern Warfare 3 hits on November 8. If you're unfamiliar, the Commando perk allows you to kill members of the opposing team with the knife from a further distance. Such a perk has generated quite the backlash amongst the CoD community; some will defend it to high heaven while others will shriek and curse and freak right out when they die due to Commando. Well, Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has confirmed that MW3 won't have the perk:

"Its been balanced, plus Commando is no longer in the game. Beyond that, you'll have to wait and see."

For now, we're not sure if the disappearance of Commando also means we won't see the Pro version of the perk, which negates fall damage and gives players a strategic advantage on certain maps. Maybe this will stay in the game as a Pro variant of a different perk; who knows? But the bottom line is that knifing from a crazy distance will be gone. You okay with that?

If they do bring that back, they should limit what weapons you can use with it. It would be OP in my opinion.

Find a guy camping in a corner with an AA-12 Automatic Shotgun, and a M240 SAW Light Machine Gun. >.>

This is great. Perhaps now the game will be a bit more playable, since this perk wrecked modern warfare 2. Still probably not going to get mw3 unless too many of my friends will, because CoD manages to be one of the only games i can play with all of my friends.

Taking out commando is great, however people will still find ways to be douchebags online (taking advantage of glitches and etc.). Some people will do anything to get an advantage over everyone else. But it will be interesting to see what other changes will be made to MW3 multiplayer and how well it will compete with Battlefield 3 (I'm currently in BF3 PC alpha trial and so far, it's pretty damn good).

All MP games have this sort of system now. So it's not cheating if everyone can take advantage of it.

The glitches on the other hand, yea, they need to fix those immediately!

I can handle this Commando thing, but when a dude runs through a wall or becomes one with a rock, I put my controller down(Haven't played BO yet, i'm hoping that was fixed?)

IM glad and its about time, I mean MW2 was a cool game, why didnt they do what Treyarch did with lag ops and make a competition mode on MW2. Where there were no tubes, commando RPG's etc.... and more like MLG settings. I rather play MW3 than lag ops, Im so mad I wasted money on lag ops >(. Never I will buy a treyarch game again. Even WAW is better than lag ops.

Perks are the only thing keeping this game from being the most generic shooter on the planet.

Black Ops perks annoyed the crap out of me!! Everytime I respawned, an opponant would napalm the respawn point, or find some other way to cheat using the tools provided.

Hopefully MW3 will use destructible environments well, and hopefully the maps will be bigger and require more strategy.

Or I'll just pick up Battlefield 3 since it's far more advanced and strategic than CoD could ever hope to be. Plus, I like vehicles and playing the medic. (Can't wait for this whole FPS craze to burn out as well, I miss the Guitar Hero craze, least that was fun for a while)

I also read somewhere that the One Man Army perk is gone too.

You don't need that perk to have 2 guns, run around the level and just snag another one up. I thought that perk was worthless to begin with.

Some people would put grenade launchers on their guns (noob tubes), then fire 2 off, camp, use one man army to switch to the class they are already using and get two more noob tube shots.

People would camp with unlimited noob tube shots. Pretty dirty.

Lmao, still i thought it was an okay perk, maybe they just changed it's name up or something????
However, the perk that really annoyed me was martydom I mean that was just plain idiotic and no skill whatever so yeah good thing they removed that one form black ops completely.

I always liked the Commando Perk. I loved earning the tactical knife with handgun and chase people down. If i got tired of getting knifed i played Hardcore. No matter what ppl are going to cry about something!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Knifers feel cool, but they're never any good, so I've never cared about it. About the biggest threat they ever pose to us is surprising us and ending a killstreak. They never win, though.

It's still a really stupid concept. Since MW2 had awful hit detection, I could be putting three or four rounds into your face while you are running at me with a knife and you'd walk away unscathed. lol

I don't find it to be cheating, as only the worst of the worst do it. It's just a really dumb concept and just adds to the reasons CoD will never be anything but a social game.

Well see that is the thing. Im not fast enough on the trigger to kill a bunch of people. My common stats where like 12k/13d so every now and then, mostly when I was getting murdered I would just go commando and tact. knife and even the odds. But I didnt buy black ops and probably will buy battlefield over MW3 just for a different experience.

Yeah, that's fair. As far as I'm concerned, anything is fair game if you need to end someone's killstreak(except for exploits like quick scope glitching or camping inside rocks and things on the map).

If someone's 14-0 or something silly like that, take a noob tube and end him. Especially if they are camping in a corner. Grenades also acceptable. It's only bad when people rely on cheap things like rockets, noob tube w/ one-man-army, etc. for the whole game.

Perks like these make COD so stupid. Being able to stab someone 30 feet away.

Perks like this is cheating, should not of ever happened. COD is for kids though, so it makes since the perk is un-realistic.
If you want a real shooter that will test skill and not be an arcade shooter for a 12 year old, then you have to be getting Battlefield 3.

Every game should have its perks, but I don't exactly call it a perk if u can earn it, use it all the time. Perks imo should work like rock paper scissors as well. Perks need to either have a strength paired with a weakness or it needs to be something you earn points to get. Being able to summon 8 remote control car bombs out of thin air doesn't constitute a perk to me. You didn't earn it and it keeps other players from being able to actually play the game. Perks are something R2 did really well. And it was balanced enough to keep everyone in the game.
