Jak & Daxter Fans May Have To Wait For The PS4

Well, this is a little surprising but you know, it prompts an additional question or two...

In the past, developer Naughty Dog has hinted at the eventual return of Jak & Daxter; the original debuted back on the PS2 and then the dynamic duo split up. Jak went on to have a few entries of his own and Daxter got his own handheld adventure on the PSP. But fans of the first game have been hoping for a reunion.

Unfortunately, though, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception assistant producer Victor Harris told TheGamersHub that Naughty Dog is a "one franchise per console company." And unsurprisingly, that "one franchise" for the PS3 is Uncharted. Of course, there's always the PlayStation Vita, which might prove to be a great platform for Jak & Daxter's return.

But we do have to ask: undoubtedly, Uncharted will continue on into the next generation. It's too big of a flagship PlayStation franchise to simply disappear. So if J&D were to come to the PS4...wouldn't that screw up Naughty Dog's little rule? That's two franchises, ya know.

Given their development cycle, Uncharted 3 will probably be the last naughty dog developed Uncharted game. If their is a jak 4 it will be done by another developer ( unfortunately ).

But there was an article a couple weeks back mentioning how Naughty Dog would love to go back to the Jak & Daxter franchise again.

I certainly hope that means that they really will.

If we're going by Naughty Dog's actual development cycle, their next game on the PS3 should be Uncharted Racing. ;)

Wow, for the first time ever, Naughty Dog said something I really didn't want to hear. O well, I was really hoping that we would see the next Jak after Uncharted 3.

I'm sure we will see the next jak or a new ip after Uncharted 3. If not I'll gladly welcome Uncharted 4.

It's not a bad thing they want to concentrate on one franchise at a time. Perhaps that's why Uncharted shines, likewise for the rest of their games?!?!

As much as i love the Jak series, i feel like they should leave it as it is. The series is incredible, and going back after so long can be a little awkward. I'm not 100% convinced Sly 4 will be great quite yet.

It really doesnt matter what game ND makes, they've shown us over and over again that its going to be incredible.

PS4 is some way away, unless we get a stunning announcement at E3 in 2012.

Maybe D&J will be an impressive launch title for the PS4... who knows, but it is a possibility...

Imo, Jak 4 should have been a ps3 launch title, if Sony had more familiar franchises like Jak, Ratchet and clank, and Sly at the launch of the ps3, then it might have gotten off to a better start. Uncharted drakes fortune and Resistance fall of man are great games, but having familiar ps2 games from the start might've gotten ps2 gamers to jump ship.

What is popular now wasn't popular at the start of this generation, most people (myself included) wouldn't drop $600 on a console that had a bunch of unheard (at the time) games. MGS4 persuaded me to make the jump from the ps2, and if familiar faces like Ratchet, Jak, & Sly had been on the menu back in 06 or 07, the ps3 launch might not have been as bad as it was. Altogether i'd say those franchises have a combined fan base of 10 million, the Jak and Daxter series alone has sold around 12 million copies.

I hope they leave it well alone or just pass it up to some other studio, kind of what its happening to Sly4.
Also leave Uncharted out at the beginning of the PS4 era, just give us something new... It has worked great so far, a new franchise for every new console.
But please come back to Uncharted a few years after the PS4 launches :)

Just do what Sucker Punch and Sanzaru are doing: Hand the project over to another developer and oversee development.

Naughty Dog is *already* doing this with' Uncharted: Golden Abyss' on the PSVita with Sony Bend Studio. Why not let Ready at Dawn (a company of former Naughty Dog employees) work on Jak 4 while Naughty Dog oversees development? That way we get 'Uncharted 4' and 'Jak 4'. Win-win.

Well, Ready at Dawn already worked on 'Daxter', a spin-off game for the PSP which I thought was actually pretty fun as well as receiving positive reviews.

Like Sanzaru I doubt Ready at Dawn would try to reinvent the wheel here. They would just continue the same gameplay formula that everyone loves by adding onto it.

Maybe ready at dawn, but Jak & Daxter the lost frontier was developed by a company other than naughty dog (high impact games), and that wasn't any good, not to mention the fact that Daxter was a spin off with only daxter being playable. Plus i think most Jak fans want naughty dog to develop Jak 4, i'm sure most Uncharted fans wouldn't want anyone else other than naughty dog making UC 3 or UC 4. Golden abyss is a little different since it's a portable game and a prequel, if it where a numbered release they couldn't get away with having someone else develop it, let alone making a vita exclusive.

Yes, High Impact Games developed that one but honestly, their track record isn't too great. Size Matters was decent but Secret Agent Clank was bad. Couldn't even finish it.

Ready at Dawn though has two successful portable God of War games and a successful Jak and Daxter spin-off. I think Ready at Dawn has the talent to produce a proper Jak 4 (with Naughty Dog overseeing development).

I realize everyone wants Naughty Dog to develop Jak 4 (hell, so do I) but it's just not in the cards. Look at the amount of people that want Sucker Punch to develop Sly: Thieves in Time instead of Sanzaru but if it wasn't for Sanzaru then that game wouldn't even exist.

To me it seems either Ready at Dawn (or another developer) develops Jak 4 for the PS3 while Naughty Dog oversees development or we may not ever see it. Naughty Dog's made up their mind and are focusing on Uncharted (for now).

It's Sad how ND works. They had Crash Bandicoot(Still one of my favorite games to date) on the PS(1). it did not show up on the PS2, the PS2 had the jack "and, or" Daxter games, and it did not show up on the PS3. The PS3 has Uncharted.
So I guess we don't expect Uncharted on the PS4 and start thinking about there new IP that will be on the PS4...
What I say it.. Bring us some HD collections or remakes or something ND! We love your games!

@World. For consistency sake, they probably should move on to something else with the ps4, otherwise they might have some upset Jak & Daxter fans on there hands. @StangMan. Yeah, a Jak & Daxter HD collection would be awesome, unfortunately though it seems developers only do HD collection's when there trying to promote the next release in there respective franchises. So basically if there's no Jak 4, there wil probably be no HD collection.

Technically you're right.

But although they were from a different developer, "Sierra" actually put out some Crash games on the PS2, and I have 2 of them in my PS2 collection.....

So.. Does that mean U4 will be a late PS3 title?
Does that mean we will never see Uncharted, J&D or Crash again? Because they will start with a new IP with the PS4?
I loved Crash Bandicoot so much(played it today), I really hope for a comeback at least a remake, heck make a remake for J&D that will make us all happy. Then in the PS5 days you can make a remake for the Uncharted series too, Who knows what will happen. But so many people love ND's games so much and then they just leave us behind and move to something new? I much rather have to wait 4 years for the next installment. and rotate through all these great franchises that we all love.

Bring back J&D and Crash Bandicoot and keep Uncharted going! Make one installment on each PlayStation. you would be the greatest game developers EVER!

Maybe it's just me, but that kind of makes it seem as though they'll change franchises again from Uncharted for the PS4. Damn... On the other hand, maybe if Golden Abyss is good, Bend will take over full UC duties on the PS4. Only problem then is who will be the flagship developer for Vita, and who will bring back Syphon Filter.

@World. I read somewhere that the Jak & Daxter series sold somewhere around 12 million, and the crash series sold pretty good as well, Naughty dog seems to have abandon those games, why would Uncharted be any different?. My point about consistency was that if they continue to do UC on the ps4 when they didn't continue there other franchises, then the Jak fans as well as the crash fans are going to be ticked because naughty dog stopped making there favorite games when they moved on to the next playstation console. Side note. I would've hit the reply button, but it wasn't there.

I dunno man, I don't think the J&D fans are going to say "Hey, they better stop making Uncharted after PS3 or I'm gonna have a fit because they stopped J&D after PS2"

As far as the sales go, that may be, but furry platformer shooters aren't big sellers this gen.

No, they probably won't sell now, but i think sony missed a golden opportunity at the start of this generation by not having games like Jak & Daxter at launch. and to what you said about how furry platformers don't sell anymore, the only one we've had is Ratchet, and he didn't sale that much on the ps2. I guess we will find out with Sly 4 how popular they still are.

Something else i want to add. Assuming big name titles like God of war 4 don't launch next year, i think Sly 4 has an opportunity to be one of the flagship titles for 2012. Another thing about these animated platformers is that its probably safe to assume the production cost aren't as high as games like UC or Infamous, so they probably don't have to sell as many to make a profit.

I have to be honest I don't, I adored the 1st Jak & Daxter game, it was classic platformer in every sense. But fron Jak II on ward they made it terribly generic. With guns and an open world. Yes it had the lovely graphics, voice acting and great overall presentation. But to me it jsut turned into every other platform game this gen, just like ratchet and clank, which was a shame.

If anything I'd like them to revive Crash Bandicoot, it's such a shame it went off the rails after Naughty Dog left. I give Twinsanity credit for being a unique experience but enjoyable. However the 2 games afterwards were just awful! I'll be upset if there is not a Crash on the PS3 in the next 2 years, the 1st 3 games are just perfect. Also, Crash Team Racing on the PS1, multiplayer bliss.

ND are a one series per console studio, but whats stopping another studio doing it like uncharted on the vita?
i doubt we will ever see J&D again, just been too long and ND dont seem interested in doing it.
i doubt will ever see uncharted after 3 too, ND always create a new IP for each system and stick to that IP.

Maybe SONY will have learned it's lesson and will make the PS4 developer friendly so NAUGHTY DOG can use it's resources to make more than 1 game at a time.

If NAUGHTY DOG can't manage to work on PS3 for more than a game at a time, with all it's resorces focused on it, no wonder why other studios are having such a harsh time and complain about it.

It's a shame. NAUGHTY DOG makes good games. If I have to choose between the two, I will go for UNCHARTED only when the PS4 time comes.

Oh good thinking. Except for the fact there's no plans for a PS4 just yet (I mean real, official plans). Everybody keeps saying the PS3 has years of life left in it.

zelda is (or rather was) one of my faworite franchises, that was like 15 years ago
i gues i just got bored
im prety sure the same would hapen with uncharted if they be making a new entry in the series for all eternety
it would not as much of a cult clasic than one of those money making games
so this is a good thig
focus fully on uncharted this generation
and than bring something new and unieq the next one
like noughty dog has ben doing ewer since
the crash series
the jack and dexter series
the uncharted series
each being a stepp forward within its own timeline
imagine how badd it would suck for us jack & d and uncharted fans if they were still focusing on crash right now
