Criterion Hiring For Open-World Racer On "New Platforms"
Criterion Games is best known for their fantastic Burnout titles, and they delivered the stellar Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit last year.
However, fans haven't seen an epic, open-world racer since Burnout Paradise, and Criterion's new project is Burnout Crash, a downloadable top-down adventure that, while seemingly entertaining, isn't exactly what the hardcore racers want. Well, good news:
As noted by VideoGamer, Criterion is seeking an AI Programmer for an "open-world racing game." Plus, another listing for a Lead Software Designer mentions "new paltforms;" as the description says, the new employee will "help create a new extension to the existing Criterion team focusing on developing on new platforms." Now, when we see the term "new platform," we can only assume the next generation of consoles or - perhaps more realistically - the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS.
Either way, we'll definitely want to see Criterion's new project. If they're creating an expansive new racer, it's bound to rule. It's what they do.

Temjin: Oh, this? hehe, yeah, I was just going to get to that, *lifts bag flap and World comes rolling out while spinning on backside* yeah, I like to call him ... WEWM. Just think, hire me and you can have him as our new team pet. You know? To replace the last one you lost when you and MS split?
Bungie: Oh sweet. You're hired. Steve Balmer would do tricks for us all day. We've missed that little monkey and all of his shenanigans ever since.

If there is a Burnout coming to the PS Vita, I'm gonna get it Day 1!!! I just hope it's not exclusive to 3DS, a price drop this early suggests the device may tank early. Hopefully Mario, Kid Icarus and Starfox can save it.
I'm a massive fan of Burnout, I still think Burnout Revenge was the best title of the lot, I liked Burnout Paradise, especially the many free DLC's, but Showtime just wasn't the best replacement for Crash Mode. It was cool, but I didn't feel that sense of epic destruction like in Revenge.

i totally agree. burnout revenge is still the best. i was a little turned off by that stupid dj in paradise, and did not care for open world aspect of it either for some reason. still liked the game very much though and i was very impressed by criterions's ps3 coding abilities as well.

I also look forward to the coming years when I get to see and respond to job postings like this one. Companies like Bungie, Sucker Punch and Turn 10 are a hop skip and jump away. I'll probably be hitting them up first ;)
