PSN Play Program: Action Galore, Special Bonuses

It's more incentive to get involved with the PlayStation Network offerings.

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced PlayStation Network PLAY, a new program that showcases four of the season's upcoming action titles.

It all starts on August 9; the games will be available for pre-order on the PSN in North America and Europe. The lineup will include Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition, The Baconing, BloodRayne: Betrayal, and Renegade Ops. One title will be released each week up through September 13. Incentives to pre-purchase are as follows:

  • Free gift with every purchase of a PLAY title
  • An exclusive PS3 theme with every pre-order
  • Bonus Gift: Sony Online Entertainment's own Payday: The Heist when all four titles are purchased
  • And PlayStation Plus subscribers will get an automatic 20% off every PLAY program purchase

The bonus gift? If you pre-order all four of these titles, you'll get PAYDAY: The Heist for free, which is a decent deal, because it has a normal retail cost of $19.99. For details concerning the lineup of games (we're gonna like Hothead's new offering, The Baconing), check out the announcement post over at the PlayStation Blog.

Will each game have a demo so you know what you're pre-ordering? It's not like you can sell em back. I don't really like the idea of pre-ordering digital games.

Talking about the Network. Has anyone else seen a boost in HD video res from TV shows purchased off the network? I saw something last night. Wen I purchased the latest episode of suits, the HD version says its 1920x1080 whilst the earlier episodes are 1280x720

Preordering something that literally available the second it is available? Seems weird. The only one I'm remotely interested in is BloodRayne, haven't played a good 2D game in an age.

yeah, preordering a digital title strikes me as odd and risky since so much of it is just shallow as hell. never a whole lot of depth to those titles. there are a few good games like flower and maybe plants vs. zombies. give me an old discounted retail game anyday. there are tons of games that you can find a gamestop dirt cheap that will give you far more bang for your buck along with the benefit of owning a tangible product. dark sector and dark void can be had for under $10 each. you really can't go wrong there unlike digital games.

Happy to be of service. Sometimes I do a feature at VelocityGamer I call The Cult Gamer, I go back and look at the games that didn't score too well and see if after major price drops they are still worth a purchase and play. DV fit in quite well.

maybe it will be like pre ordering a game off steam, it will download to your system and then activate release day

Count me in on this. Free bonus stuff is always good. I'll most likely buy all these titles anyways so what the hell.

Sounds like Xbox Live's Summer of Arcade. But with less appealing titles. <.<

great idea, but a little too late.
WTF would you release this in september, the fullest month of the year!?
hey i kno june, july, august are deserted, so instead of releasing heaps of PSN games then to fill the gap and give them the best chance of selling, lets release them in september the fullest month of the year, the month where they have almost no chance of selling!
BRILLIANT!
whoever came up with that should win the Nobel prize!!!!!!!!!!
its confirmed, no one in the video game industry has access to a calendar!
