BioWare: DAII Legacy DLC Proves We've Been Listening

We say Dragon Age II was great, but it wasn't the elite role-playing experience we always expect from BioWare.

But you know, the developers have often said they've listened carefully to fan feedback (or perhaps it's more accurate to call it "backlash"), and the new Legacy DLC is an example of that. In speaking to the BioWare community, lead designer Mike Laidlaw said the developers are convinced "there's a game out there that's better than both Origins and DAII." And he's pretty sure the team can find it.

And in regards to Legacy, Laidlaw says that proves BioWare has been listening:

"Legacy, I think, goes a long way towards demonstrating that we are listening, that we are aware of the weaknesses of DAII, and that we will continue to address them."

He went on to say that "reasonable, passionate feedback is the best possible thing to provide" and that the design team has found such feedback "incredibly useful." Now, Legacy add-on content is all well and good, but we have to assume that we'll see the changes we want to see in Dragon Age III. It's not complicated, really. From an RPG fan's standpoint, we just want...well, an RPG. Not role-playing Lite.

I just wish that they had made dragon age origins 2 instead of dragon age 2. The first one was incredible, the only thing that the second game has on the first one is that the main character talks. Aside from that the characters, story, gameplay, and everything was better in the first game

From what I've read Legacy isn't all that good, and also overpriced.

claire is correct. legacy is not exactly wowing gamers. it got a 5.5 score from gamespot and was heavily criticized for repeating a lot of narrow brown corridor type enviroments.

what a surprise ea featuring some overpriced dlc. they have been very good at that, and also the biggest offenders out there concerning day 1 dlc. short games spammed with early dlc is one of my biggest gripes of this gen.

It is also suppose to be really buggy as well. Bioware really isn't listening it seems.

@ Excelsior1 - "short games spammed by early dlc" is on my hate list too. I refuse to buy the dlc and if the game isn't worth what I paid, I don't buy the next one until it hits the clearance shelf.

No details on what is actually IN Legacy?

I knew Bioware would listen to its fans, they always do.

As for Square Enix? Well, FF XIII-2 looks bigger with an open world towards the beginning, but there appears to be no changes to combat, which was FF XIII's biggest downfall.

That's the way I understand it too with FFXIII-2, which will make it good enough to play if not enough to love to pieces like we did once upon a time.

the only problem i had with ff13's combat was its hectic pace and focus on staggering an opponent. i also did not like how if the main character died it was game over. it would be nice to be able to swap out characters like ff10 as well. ff10 and 10-2 were my favorite combat systems.

so i would say ff10 was the last great ff game even though 10-2 had a great combat system as well. ff12 strayed too far into mmo territory and such dull charcters it ranks as my least favorite.
13 i liked but did not love. that's a good way of putting it.

The combat in FFXIII wan't terrible but I'm pretty sure I fell asleep more than once with my left thumb pushing up on the left stick and my right thumb mashing X.

Bah, FFXIII was an abomination to the FF name.

You don't make up for severely screwing up a game by asking people to pay more money for DLC meant to rectify it.

Don't talk about fixing the series, don't focus on DLC for a busted product, just fix it in the next entry.

Not from what the critical reception that I've seen. Listening to the fans would lead to a game more like the original, not something rated 5/10...

no, they do.
if theres any developer out there who listens to their fans and tries to appease them its bioware.
tis probably why apparently the next OXM mag will have the first details on ME3s MP modes!
id rather the series stay strictly campaign only, but i guess you cant fight the trends.

um, i don't lnow if i would hold up the details of mp mode as an example of listenining...i don't think me effect fans were exactly clammering for a mp mode. in fact it seems to concern some fans there is a mp mode at all. there is always concern a mp mode will cut into the sp campign i guess. i'm not really that worried about it.

... Unless they by "multiplayer" mean "coop play" (I differentiate those two). If it is 2-4 player campaign coop play they talk about then I'll be the first in line. I would *love* to see a BioWare coop RPG if - and only *if* - BioWare is able to maintain the same level of strong storytelling. That would be... Amazing to play.
It would actually be a worlds first, afaik. But if there is one company that can pull it off, I put my money on BioWare.

Are there developers who don't listen to their fans? Gosh... pretending to listen to us doesn't make you special Bioware, your kick ass games do.

DA2 Legacy...PASS. The game was good, but not enough to bring me back in for more X mashing. What they need to do is upgrade the games cartoony graphics and the damn load times.
