SCEE Releasing "Modified" Version Of Heavy Rain

So, wait...people who might be offended at the content would wait all this time to play a modified version? And what are they modifying? This ain't GTA.

At any rate, it seems Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is set to re-release Quantic Dream's masterful Heavy Rain. No, it isn't a Game of the Year Edition; according to Siliconera, it's Heavy Rain Edition Modifiée, and it comes with a PEGI rating of 16. The original version launched with the PEGI 18 rating (similar to the ESRB's "M"-Mature rating). We don't know what they cut from the less intense version, but it does appear as if the level of violence has been scaled back. Maybe that scene with the crazed doctor isn't so frightening, and maybe cutting off your finger isn't part of the game, anymore. Who knows?

We just wonder if this version is actually necessary, and what prompted SCEE to create it. If you take away some of that violent intensity, this game loses some of its edge...

I thought Europeans are more against violence than sex.

Yeah if it turns out it's the sex scenes that are removed then I there has to be more in that game than what I saw, to put it that way. :D

I don't see the point in this at all, its not like the game did not reach out to an audience to begin with, I'm curious to konw the differences.

Taking out the violent/disturbing parts will ruin the overall atmosphere of the game. The disturbing parts, like cutting off your finger, really help get you in the mind of Ethan Mars, and make you want to kick some ass and get your kid back.

...and it's nasty / awesome. Losing Ethan's reaction would be a shame.

Yeah, I don't understand this. Maybe it's just to build hype for the announcement of a new QD game? And they couldn't think of any other way to celebrate it. I can't really think of any way that they'd tone it down though. The original listing included 'Extreme violence', while the new one is only 'Realistic Violence', but what counted as extreme in the original? Hmm... Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I hope they add a disclamer for the new people that read:
"Theres another version of this game uncensored so if u feel mature enough to play dont buy this edition"

Totally weird, aside from Madisons boobs 3 times over I can't think of anything that isnt in plenty of PG-13 movies.

Whatever they are doing to it it must be some strange attempt to test it with a younger market. I assume it's just cuts since QD has been too busy to even make the other DLC episodes.

Well I think this is stupid and very unnecessary. There is enough parents out there today who aren't parenting that if you were not surpose to play this game and you wanted to you would of.
Just keep it in Europe. If it comes to the States it will not sell. And if it did people wouldn't realize it's been all uncensored and what not.

I know one thing. When the game of the year edition comes out I'm going to jump on it.

The thing is though, GoTY editions usually have a bunch of extra stuff like DLC packed in. HR only had one DLC episode.

I was so disapointed when it was announced the episodes were discontinued, The one with Madison in the taxidermist's house was actually the preview of teh game and the gameplay demonstration which got my interested in HR, I would have loved for more instead of teh move gimmick.

If putting titties in a game doesn't get anyone to buy it then taking them out certainly won't increase sales.

whats the point?
most of what would of had to be censored is the point of the game, remove that your left with nothing!
hopefully david reveals his next game at gamescom, im dying to see what it is!

Yeah because out of all the GTAs and CoDs and REs out there, this is really the game that needs a 'clean' version, sigh. There's just something so wrong with this world.
