DICE Boasting "Years Worth" Of Battlefield 3 Unlocks

Longevity is a big deal for gamers, especially when it comes to making difficult choices during the holiday season.

Therefore, developer DICE plans to give players a lot to do. Battlefield 3 launches on October 25 and while there's always the multiplayer to enhance the experience, there will also be a ton of unlocks. In fact, they're bragging about years worth of unlocks; 10 times more than there were in Bad Company 2. More weapons, weapon attachments, gadgets, awards, service stars, and a gigantic unlock tree for various vehicles. DICE says they want gamers to have as much fun on launch day as they do in 2013...if they can somehow pull that off, we'll be ecstatic. And hey, maybe this will alleviate some of the pain concerning that extra fee for online play. But you'll get the game new, anyway, right?

The more incentive we have to keep playing a game, the more likely we are to pay $60. DICE seems to be on the right track with BF3.

Sounds like they're taking their opponent, Modern Warfare 3, really seriously and are going all out to defeat it. They're putting up a hell of a fight, that's for sure. But will it be enough?

Edit: I wonder how many gamers will destroy their eyes and bodies trying to unlock everything in the shortest period of time possible.

I think it will be enough in order to achieve their goals, but certainly not enough to unseat the king.

well, DICE got my $60. Activision, actually Blockbuster, has my $5 to rent that one to see where they take the story for MW3.

Here's what you do.

Pre-order the game at Best Buy. There's a $10 deposit, but you get 800 Reward Zone points with your pre-order (it's $5 for every 400 points) meaning you get $10 off a purchase, that you can use towards your Battlefield 3 copy. Plus you get to avoid big line-ups at stores like Gamestop or Wal-Mart and whatnot because not many people know about this Best Buy offer.

Impressive Dice! This didn't make or break it for me. I am still buying both and will love playing both. This is such a win/win fall line up for us!

I have news as well, I'm considering purchasing this game at some point. I appreciate the authenticity I'm seeing as opposed to that other game. I think there will be more than a shallow experience here. It's just too bad all those unlocks are going to be multiplayer.

*sigh* Us campaign fans used to have a lot to look forward to.

Well considering all the goods BC2 had, this is gonna b insane. Probably near over 200 unlocks. I've still yet to fully level out in BC2. Clearly this is gonna take every bit of forever to earn this stuff. Btw how the Hell can they fit all this and their engin e on a ps3? Oh right guess this console hasn't been maxed out yet after all. I'm pretty sure my ps3 would implode if it did. This is official d1p for me. R3 BF3 UC3 and AC revelations. That's my fall lineup.(cuz I cant afford any more than that)
Side note. Speaking of AC struggling with borgia flags in brotherhood. Help is appreciated. I have them marked on the map. And i have about 80 but only 5 left show up on my map. I need 101.

First of all why would you buy MW3 over BF3? The only reason I always hear is that my friends have it, but BF3 is going to be so big that you will have no problem finding people you know who play. And if you don't buy it then that would encourage your friends to get your game. (:

Because not everyone has to be like you, StandMan. He obviously prefers Modern Warfare 3 more, which is absolutely understandable.

MW3 has addictive perks, simple predictable physics and easy to understand gameplay types. It's the biggest and best generic shooter in the market, and if your friends play online too... well, even I can see its appeal, and I prefer Battlefield!!

CoD is good once you wrap your head around playing it and can find the cheap shot spots on the map. Killcam is a nice touch, avoids camping.

But I prefer big maps, destructible environments, vehicles and team-based strategy with highly varied class types. Battlefield 3, therefore, is more my kinda game, but I do understand MW3's appeal.

*BTW, use to hate CoD with a passion, but am now trying to reach a calm, neutral understanding with the game and its fans. The fans annoy me more than the game itself though. :P *

Man, is a game like this even real? This game is sounding amazing and the more I hear the more I want to play it day one. I use to love shooters but nothing lately has reached what I wanted. But this, this is sounding just unbelievable good and I just can't imagine it being disappointing.

Now @ COD fans, this is what you get when you don't get a game every year. A game that is up on high quality and lasts a long time.

BG3 is sounding better and better the closer it get's to launch. Well I know this and the awesome, amazing MGS collection is guaranteed purchases for me. oh, and Uncharted 3. (: Twisted Metal is high on my list to.

I wish all the good games didn't always come out at the end of the year.

DICE is pulling out all the stops for this one and it's nice to see. And after participating in the PC Alpha testing last week, this one is worth the price of admission. Just a blast to play.

after playing the alpha of this its made me even more excited for it!
just the size of the maps, you really gotta play this on the PC its BREATHTAKING!
the maps are so large, and really well detailed it was really impressive!
and its only a alpha, cant wait to see what the full game will be like!
anyone who buys MW3 over this needs a head examination, and a taste bypass!
not only does it offer more content, it offers better content!
plus not to mention all the mods the PC version will be getting.
hell BF2 how many years after release is still getting mods released today!

Battlefield 3 is a PC only purchase for me.

If it's half as impressive and mostly as fun as Bad Company 2, I'm sold.

I hope the medic class isn't entirely wiped out though. I loved running round with shock paddles about 20 yards behind my friends, ready to bring them back to life and rain death on their killer!! :D

id put those hopes away if i was you.
i played as the medic most of the time, but the padles are freaking useless!
as i said above about the knife kills, you cant get close enough to a downed team mate to revive him.
even if by some miracle you do get to him in time, before you revive him you will end up with a bullet in your skull because of the dam sniping HMGs from 200KMs away and they only saw you because of the dam quick scoping!
luckily they have health packs though, so you can sit in cover and throw those out instead.
the paddles though are useless!

they need to adequate more points to class and objective specific tasks.
thats one thing DICE really need to do, in the alpha NO ONE was doing the objectives, nor were they doing their class job.
no one would be the engineer, so every time a tank came out i had to switch so i could take it out.
out of all the matches i played probably 3 tanks were taken out by someone else!
out of all the matches i played, maybe 10 i actually saw my team mates trying to do the objective!
thats the biggest problem developers face with online games today, allot of people just want to kill people they dont give a hoot about the objectives or class objectives.
if your a medic lay out health packs.
if your a engineer look out for tanks, and repair things.
if your a recon sit back and guard the base.
but no one does these things!
there just content killing people, and pretending the objectives dont exist!
at least if they offered more points, or a different reward it may coax some people into actually doing there dam job!

Nice to see someone who follows the NDA rules. And sounds like you just had bad players in your games. The ones I was involved in didn't go quite like that.

Has anyone tried NOT comparing Battlefield 3 to MW3 and just enjoying the game for what it is? Can any journalist write an article that doesn't compare it to Modern Warfare 3?!?! Can't both games just be sold as their own unique product?!?!?

Then again, both games are so alike that comparison is what strives both games' developers to reach new heights in graphics, physics and gameplay.

If the comment sections of PSXextreme, IGN, Gamespot AU and Kotaku AU are anything to go by, the hardcore gamers are more impressed with Battlefield 3 and the new features it offers over MW3.

No doubt MW3 will sell more at first with brand recognition drawing in the casual shooter crowd who think they're hardcore because they play ONE shooter!!!

lol, well this is total Marketing BS

dont get me wrong, im getting BF3 but i know this statement is crap.

didnt they say they now have 10x the amount of unlocks that was in BFBC2?

i unlocked everything in that game in 4 days
(It really wasnt a lot to unlock and by the sound of it they are finally catching up to the standard.)

now lets see if they fixed the voice chat, because BFBC2 had a major flaw. any1 who was not in my squad couldn't hear me. (Proximity chat.) this is one game that needs it badly, especially when a team mate (Not in squad) gets into the tank with u and doesn't know what they are doing.

Fixing the chat would be nice as well as fixing the issue where players with 0% health are still running around killing people.IDK what system you play on but on the PS3 it happens all the time.Hopefully they figured out what 0% health means.
