EA Plans To "Reimagine" Several Classic Franchises
Oh goody. It's time once again to play the guessing game.
EA Games boss Frank Gibeau told CVG that in addition to the big franchises (Battlefield, Madden, Mass Effect, etc.), they plan to revive several of their old-school classics. Said Gibeau:
"We've got 25 years of good IPs and I've worked on a few of them in my career like Road Rash and the Strike series. So I have a strong affinity for a lot of the things we've done in the past.
We kind of have a rule which is you've got to have a really good reason to bring something back - What can you do to it that makes it fresh and brings something new to the equation of the franchise?"
He went on to cite their reboot of Medal of Honor; the reason they brought that back was because they wanted to focus on modern themes. It was why last year's MoH dealt with the controversial war on terror. Then he just so happened to mention Road Rash and the Strike series, but he finished by saying they still need to "have something new:"
"But when we look at Road Rash, the Strike series or some of these other franchises we really challenge ourselves. We can't just put them on new tech with the same gameplay from ten years ago, we've got to have something new. That's the typical challenge that we have."
Okay, so what do you think they'll bring back? Or better yet, what do you want them to bring back? Answering the last question is always more fun. ;)

I will say this though, don't piss on bringing games up to date that keep their core gameplay. That's how you make good games that people love, as opposed to say... sh*tcanning what fans love and doing something else that they hate.

Those games were hella boss. They'd be sick in hd. Hell, id like to see them given the modern day treatment and just make a new road rash all together.
Nothing like knockin another biker off their hog with a chain.

Seriously though, a new Road Rash would be amazing! I also wouldn't mind a new Alone in the Dark. More survival horror is always a good thing. Also, though I never played it, I like the sound of Zany Golf. The idea of a fantasy mini-golf course sounds like a good idea for a PSN/XBLA game.

but 1 black left about half way through development so ive got a feeling he was not happy with the game or whatever.
2 its TOTALLY different to BLACK!
played the demo on XBLA its a good game, but its so different to BLACK.
i wish criterion would just go back to the series, hire stewart black back, and get DICE to help them with the FB2 engine.

But, more than that they need to bring us a new Privateer game. Privateer 2 was a great game and almost brought the same mood as the original Elite. We need a game like that on current platforms.
