Ridge Racer Unbounded: Cool Effects, Heavy Drifting
I still remember playing the original Ridge Racer on the PlayStation. Man, I played the hell out of that game.
Ever since, despite my affinity for simulated driving, I've always been drawn to over-the-top arcade-style racing experiences like Burnout and MotorStorm. I never play them for extended periods of time but I enjoy my review sessions with such titles.
And now, here comes Ridge Racer Unbounded, which appears to be a blend of Burnout, Need for Speed, and previous RR entries; check out the GamesCom video below.
If you remember Ridge Racer 7, which was a pretty solid launch title for the PS3, there was a heavy emphasis on drifting. And as you can see, that focus has returned. But the crash and impact effects definitely remind us of Criterion's past efforts, and the game appears to run ultra-smooth. I kinda think the camera sits a tad too close but then again, I often think that.
So are you excited for Unbounded?

I'll be too busy with Dark Souls, Resistance 3, Gears 3, Xenoblade Chronicles, Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 3, ICO Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection, MGS Collection, Sonic Generations and Skyrim. Then there's Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite, Twisted Metal and ZOE HD Collection to look forward to early next year.
.... yeahhhh...... sorry Ridge Racer. I'm afraid you might be a hire or bargain bin purchase. That is, unless, you nail perfect review scores and addictive gameplay. :)

little disappointed they have gone away from the track sim style gameplay, but lets be honest here 1% of the crowd out there is going to want that so its common sense to "drift" away to more open fields.
plus criterion are busy with burnout crash, so by the looks of that its going to be a while till we get a proper burnout game!
so its nice to know we have a replacement.
speaking of open world racing games WTF happened to midnight club?
the last one streets of LA released 3 years ago!
sigh, R* have got so many games in the pipeline they cant release any of them!

This new Ridge Racer is being made by Bugbear Entertainment! The makers of Flat Out and Flat out 2! Those were two of my favorite racers on the orginal xbox and Ps2. it also had cool ragdoll physics minigames like bowling and long jump. xD
