Same-Sex Marriage An Option In The Elder Scrolls V
Well, New York did it. Why not the new Elder Scrolls?
In games where freedom is key, we should be able to do anything we want. We should be able to marry any eligible bachelor or bachelorette, regardless of our own gender. Right? Well, if you support this idea, you'll like such freedom of choice in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines confirmed on his Twitter page that you'll be able to "marry anyone."
"@Jadis232 Not hush hush, just not making a huge deal out of it. You can marry anyone."
He later clarified that we can't technically marry "anyone" (not all NPCs count), but for the most part, gender shouldn't matter. We've heard similar things about Mass Effect 3 and...well, we at PSXE aren't stupid enough to comment on the issue one way or the other. And while it's always a big subject of debate - as it always is in real life - we must ask: please don't get involved in a moral or political debate in the Comments. Please. I just don't have the strength to deal with it.

One thing confuses me though, and it could be the way I read it. You can't marry "anyone" (npcs don't count)
So who the hell can you marry or be in a relationship with? Cause isn't your character the only non-npc?

Is there an option to just be a roving "player"? I mean... it's not like you ever settle down in one town anyways!
You could get really creative...
"Hey you! I remember you... You were in our village last year! Remember me?" -Cassandra places a 3 month old infant on your lap. "yeah, you owe me 50% of your gold for child support, you SOB!"
Gold grinding just got a whole new meaning. (HA! Triple meaning!!)

I think he had to walk up some huge mountain to pray to a burning bush made out of old cigarette buds so his virgin daughter that's only 13 can marry the 50 year old mayor of his village.
But it's cool, he gets a new goat out of the whole deal.

IMO, I think religion should either stay out of video games or be dealt with in a highly sophisticated OR ridiculously hilarious over-the-top manner. That way, religion portrayed in the game is either good, justified and not harmful to others, or it is so hilariously wrong that the silliness of it removes all accountability portrayed.
Hey! It worked for Duke Nukem when dealing with women's rights and equality!! :P

Dragon Age Origins (as a man): Bagged Morrigan but then committed to Leliana.
Dragon Age II (as a woman) Bagged Isabella but then committed to Merril.
Mass Effect 2 (as a man): bagged Jack but she wouldn't sleep with my dude again or do any of the nice wifey things I wanted to force her to do.
Fallout New Vegas (as a man): Bagged the sexbot... that I built for a pimp... named Fisto...(so ashamed).

You are ashamed of the sexbot... Well, In Dragon Age 2, I went after Merrill pretty actively, and also bagged Isabella... but I also... paid for services.... with the chick I thought seemed to be the most attractive in the Rose..... turned out to be a tranny or trans or whatever....
I felt so bad for Hawke... he'd never cast spells quite the same way again....

It is against the law to shoot, stab, decapitate, explode, curb-stomp, melee, or tea-bag a person in reality, yet no one has any problems with allowing you to do it in a video game.
It is against the law (in many places) to marry a partner of the same sex, so why should it be a problem to do in video games?
Violence? Perfectly fine and justifiable!
Same sex marriage? Woah!! Hang on!! Things are getting a little out of control here!!
What if it was justifiable same sex marriage? Say both guys had a shotgun wedding? Their mum or dad holding a shotgun to their back and forcing them in the game? Since it's being forced on the player to complete the act (like shooting enemies dead in FPS' to proceed), would that make it fine? If you were forced into same sex marriage in the game to proceed, would that make it okay?
Wow, Western society really confuses me in so many ways!!!
