Skyrim PAX Videos: Magic And Combat

If you weren't lucky enough to attend this year's Penny Arcade Expo, you missed out on plenty of gameplay videos.

Some of the more popular are several pieces of footage for the epic RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The first involves some good ol' pyromancy, which is always entertaining from a magician's standpoint. Not sure about you, but I just gotta play as a mage.

Then there's more combat via traditional dungeon crawling. Fans of the series should be satisfied, as the first-person in-your-face style seems to appeal to a great many role-players. It's fun getting up close and personal with a dragon, isn't it?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim arrives on November 11, so be prepared to lose yourself in yet another immense world of danger, myth and mystery.

I just seen a still image of this game today, and it looked like the guy was fighting a lycan (werewolf).

I hope there's werewolves in this game, that would be epic. And it would be more so if you could turn INTO a werewolf, the vampire was cool, but being able to be a werewolf would kick all sorts of a$$.

There just might be werewolves but don't take my word for it because Bethesda is big on cutting features to make room for shinier looks now.

Oh yeah! I am -ALWAYS- a mage. Most fun is had while being a mage, in pretty much any game.

I always found being a mage useful, but being combat oriented always fit my play style. Might have to try being Mage in this game as it looks awesome.

It's nice because you have the advantage of ranged attacks, but with heavy hits and healing capabilities. The downside, of course, is that you die fast. In multiplayer games, if you can have a melee style that can take lots of damage and keep the baddies away from you, you're pretty much an unstoppable duo.

Mages can always turn the tide of battle heavily, but they must be used with caution without a melee guard!

It works well for us in WKC. Highlander is a pretty good tank and keeps the attention of baddies for a long time, leaving me to send lots of nukes at the baddies. For our current levels, we're a pretty tough team to beat!

Oh crap...you can do co-op in WKC...that freakin cool ass h*ll...you guys must have alot of fun playing that game. Yeah, using magic in Demons Souls came in handy because melee combat wasn't always the best strategic plan. I know in Dragon Age, mages were important in changing the tide of battle so I'm familiar with their importance, but at the sametime...I just can't ever pull myself away from being a agile combat oriented player...time to broaden my focus and exploits...lol

Todd Howard and Ken Levine are good friends. Seems like Todd took some inspiration from Bioshock. Looks pretty cool.
