Rumor: Modern Warfare 3 To Offer 32-Player Matches

If there's any important leaked information concerning Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, it's bound to grab headlines.

As noted by SFX-360, there's a YouTube video that apparently provides us with never-before-heard details regarding MW3's multiplayer.

The video was posted by someone who found a way into the Call of Duty XP setup in Los Angeles, and he saw some interesting menus. First and foremost is the possibility that for the first time in the franchise's history, MW3 might boast 32-player matches. You can also spot no less than 13 map names, along with a new mode entitled "Bomb." Of course, all we can think of is- "They set us up the bomb."

Think it's legit? Well, by the end of the week, we'll know. That's when Call of Duty XP officially opens; if you picked up one of the $150 tickets, you're probably in for a massive CoD treat. Activision has quite the weekend planned, ya know.

if they dont have dedicated servers for less lag, it's gonna be stupid to have a 32 player mode. I hope people will start trying to play objectively cuz otherwise the bomb mode wont be very different.

Maybe they've come up with a clever way of easing the network load, maybe the map layout or something enables them to run client hosted 32 player matches with ease?
Only time will tell...

Ha... for me its BF3 first, then if I am interested I may get MW3. It really depends how it turns out. I think BodyCount would be more fun than MW3 anyways...

Still? I've never played KZ3 MP, hec all I've ever played is the SP demo. I'm not a fan of FPS on consoles.

The screen shot may be from the PC version, and the PC version may have a dedicated server mode.

That's probably the most likely explanation.

People are making fun of CoD for finally having 32 players, but Resistance 3 has regressed to 16 players, BF3 is only 24 players, and KZ3 regressed to 24player matches...32 players online is a attractive selling point right now for me. 32 players makes the game more chaotic. Look at KZ2...KZ2 was crazy, KZ3 was just...meh in comparison, no matter how better it controlled. Just saying.

It's not news. Simple as that. Most other games would not draw so much attention to the amount of players in matches. It's not making fun of.

Also, 32 is pretty stock standard.

Okay, first of all, I'm just going by that screenshot, but that grammar is frickin' atrocious. If that is real, then the company seriously needs to get someone that knows how to write in there. Secondly, it could be PC exclusive for 32 players, just as it it 64 for Battlefield.

The other thing that I want to note is that it has supposedly been confirmed to have dedicated servers for the PC, giving further credence to this claim. Now, they need to use the Steam integration to allow PS3 and PC players to play together, just like Portal and CounterStrike. What say you all?

Regarding grammar, yeah that smells like a scam to me. "A great teamwork and a nice game" - wtf? What kind of map description is that?

But I believe most PC multiplayer games have a "dedicated server" option (at least they used to), meaning that anyone can set up a dedicated server running the game in server mode on it's own box (or even a free, downloadable dedicated server software).
Gaming on PC is an entirely different world in that sense.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if I'm just being bitter here, but I just think this game is going to suck so hard. It is going to be absolutely awful. Seriously, its exactly the same graphics etc and engine as MW2. The guns are barely different, just more ugly. Bf3 for the win. Damn, Activision and the CoD franchise are taking it easy and living the high life so to say now. But one day soon they will fall off so hard!

unless activision upgraded their servers to be dedicated which im sure they didn't, 32 players is going to lag more with p2p servers. look at ground war 18 players and it lags a lot. Plus that bomb mode is probably just a upgrade version of demolition mode. Plus 32 players on smalls maps is going to be a huge camp out.

i dont think this is gonna work. its already hell playing it now with its max players. more players just make it too hectic and a pain. this just means to me as more glitchers, cheaters, campers, and whiny/"bad@$$" kids screaming into the mic who thinks they can take on anyone in real life because they're on the internet and noone can actually find them. in my opinion, cod is not a game to have a lot of people. thats whats battlefield is for.

For those who think that this has to be the pc version, if you look closely at the video you'll see that it has the A and B buttons. But surprised me and catched my eye was actually the tab under [Connect] it said [Create A Server] and remember this is on the 360.

After looking at the pic, it does also say "build for xp tournament", meaning the 32-player option may not even make it to the final product.
