Capcom And Ninja Theory Working In Harmony On DMC

Yes, Capcom farmed out the Devil May Cry reboot to Ninja Theory.

But that doesn't mean they aren't working together. It's not a situation where Ninja Theory does the game on their own and Capcom simply slaps their name on the box.

In speaking to the Capcom Unity Blog, Capcom Japan's David Chrissop emphasized the "collaboration" part of this new project:

"We really are working together, injecting as much Capcom know-how as we can."

Added Alex Jones from Capcom US:

It’s a fairly intense collaboration, particularly when you get down to the combat. There’re minute discussions about shaving frames, and ‘no no, have you tried hit stop this way?’ So it is very much like a symposium of Street Fighter-level combat stuff when we’re over there.

The combat is at the heart of any stellar DMC experience."

Thankfully, Ninja Theory creative director Tameem Antoniades agreed, saying combat is the "foundation" of the franchise. And as far as Capcom's trust in the developer, Jones said:

"[Ninja Theory is] amazing at story and mood and atmosphere, and we’ve given them full latitude to make the game they wanna make in that sphere. So in a lot of ways it’s been a very productive two-way relationship with us leveraging our strengths and we’re pretty happy with where we are at this point."

It's good to see that both companies are on the same page. When it comes to an iconic series like DMC, the new guys really have to work closely with the guys that first put the franchise into the limelight. Although we still have our reservations about Dante's new look, we fully expect the gameplay to be something special. How about you?

NT is very good at what they do. I think they should really only get help with getting technical issues down, other than that leave Capcom out of it. They are altogether crazy; Dragon's Dogma looks fresh though at least.

I kinda really hope they do another Enslaved game. I really loved the first despite the nagging technical issues.

Capcom sucks this generation. It's as if they had a list of things the fans wanted and decided to do the exact opposite. This game is going to get 8s across the board and a lot of it will have to do with the name.

They've been saying this since Day 1, but the naysayers continue to say nay because Dante looks different. If Capcom are truly delivering aid to the combat of the game, then what is there to complain about? Surely that means that they also had some input as to the whole Angel aspect that seems to be in the game.

Either way, I continue to say nay to the naysayers, because until proven otherwise, I maintain that this game will be seven shades of awesome.

Yeah, GRIN didn't get paid by Square-Enix for Fortress, or a few other publishing partners :/

I don t know about the combat , it look too simple .Seem to me like it will be just like ninja gaiden 2 in that department .

Personally i don t have a problem with Dante new look . Well , maybe at first , the change is pretty drastic after all .

If they are able to make the combat close to how it was in dmc 3 , i ll buy it day one .Sadly ,my hopes for this are pretty slim like you might have seen on my first sentence .

REALLY???

I'm not trying to ah knock your opinion, but the combat seems to go at the same speed as any other DMC game in the normal mode now if you're comparing it to the DMC games with turbo mode turned on which is how allot of people played the games then yeah it would be a bit slower, but again the combat is at the same speed as the other DMC games in regular mode.

P.S. Are you sure that was Ninja Gaiden 2 you've were playing??? Ninja Gaiden 2 had dozens of combos in it, even more than any of the DMC games and yet to you the combat in NG2 was... Simple???? If anything the combat in the old DMC games were more simple than NG2.

I'm trying to keep an open mind but this looks like a title I'll inevitably grab in the bargain bin.

First, they change Dante. Alright, I'll stop being a fanboy and accept the new look. Then they license the Unreal Engine 3, an engine known for having issues on the PS3 (30fps, texture pop-in, etc.) instead of the beautiful MT Framework. Now, after seeing the gameplay, it looked a bit sluggish. I finished 'Enslaved: Odyssey to the West' the other day and thought, "The gameplay is great, story, voice acting, aesthetics, etc. are all amazing but the combat is really lacking."

I wish Ninja Theory the best but I'm not hyped for this title. It'll be a wait-and-see.
