Activision Reveals Big CoD Stats

It's all good news for Activision.

The Call of Duty XP event will be in full swing this weekend and to kick things off, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg handed out some very significant statistics concerning their blockbuster Call of Duty franchise.

Thus far, Call of Duty: Black Ops players have purchased 18 million map packs since the game's launch, and that means the average amount spent on the record-breaking title comes to $76 per user. This shouldn't be too surprising, though, as the average Modern Warfare 2 player spent about the same ($74).

But the numbers may go up across the board when Modern Warfare 3 hits in November. Hirshberg confirmed that pre-orders are running along at a record pace, and the publisher expects the pre-order total to eclipse that of Black Ops "by a significant margin." MW3 will also receive the largest marketing campaign in Activision's history...so prepare for a massive fall blitz.

Lastly, Hirshberg said the price of Call of Duty Elite would make it a "no-brainer" for members of the community, and it'll be designed for both hardcore and casual players. Yes, it's all rosy for everything CoD.

Sorry no, $60 is enough for your game. I will not pay a monthly fee for it. That said, it's annoying that even with so many better games coming out this will once again break sales records.

But honestly speaking...MW will end up like Guitar Hero. Remember how many versions after versions there were for Guitar Hero? Are there like 11 games or so in the franchise? Well anyway, people got sick of it. As they will with MW.

Actually I was at the circus tonight, lol no joke! I was impressed with the animals on display but since the last time I was at the circus they've added a bunch of safety nets and ropes which takes away the wow factor.

Well congratulations console gamers, you've really dug a deep hole for yourselves. These FPS DLC "map packs" have gotten out of hand. $15-$20 for a couple maps is outrageous. I just can't understand how people can b**** about the price of the Vita but think this isn't the lowest of low.

I guess it's the same with Debit cards, most people that use them I doubt realize how much they're spending and so a little here and a little there adds up to a lot.

The only DLC I've ever bought was Undead DLC for RDR and I got it on sale for $5 which is a fair price. People want to say PC gamers have this "elite" nature about them but in all honesty I do believe I'm better than shelling out $15 for a few extra maps.

Why is it that it seems like a majority of gamers nowadays are not only playing ONE genre, but in essence ONE game - Call of duty. I gotta say, I don't get it.

I've even played a few of them, finished the single player campaign on both MW1&2 and World at war (all rentals) but seriously, even if you'd consider them as good games, why would you limit yourself to these games only??

You ask the question we all want to know the answer to. Gaming has so much to offer, it's just a shame these poor people are stuck the way they are. I think they are a special kind of human that can only use CoD controls. Anything with a new control scheme is alien to them.

I'm still buying it. It's just my type of game. I also want to get bf3 but theirs just too many games coming out this fall. uncharted 3, mgs collections, ico/sotc, white knight chronicles 2 is two weeks away, and AC:revelations. I don't even think I'll have time for mw3...still buying it.

If it's really called "Modern" Warfare 3 maybe they should update their engine hmm? They have so much money why not become a pioneer and take steps to truly max out this generation of consoles. It's sad when a giant company that has the ability to push tech is complacent.

With that said I'm on the fence about this game. I did jump on the CoD bandwagon when MW2 came out, but I'm getting pickier with games that I buy. I'll be getting BF3 because I was infatuated with BF2, but 2 FPS games at the same time might be too much, especially when I have my reservations.

Upgrade there engine and lose there 60 fps ....its a reason they don't plan to upgrade there engine until there is more powerful hardware

Wont buy MW3, not one game I have liked enough, my COD4 play time is 24 hours, all the next COD's combined do not have my COD4 playtime.

The casual gaming market is what controls the game industry now. They want CoD even though its the same game each year. If it doesn't play like CoD they won't touch it. BF3 will take away some of the hardcore fan base from CoD. But that really won't help them considering more and more casual gamers will pick up MW3. I wouldn't be surprised if EA starts making games for the casual gamer.

Activision will continue to do this because they know most consumers will get suckered into it. My friends and I wont purchase another CoD game until there is some ingenuity and dedicated servers cause frankly im tired of pumping an entire clip in someone and then I die from one bullet. CoD is NOT the best FPS to date. Its a shame that there's so many good FPS that has potential to do alot more but people are so simplistic with the CoD control scheme. BF3 will get my money and on top of that the graphics will be comparable to the pc version

I give you that bf3 graphics r pretty impressive, but plz give me your list of fps that you feel are or can do way better....I play cod...I b honest i havent found an online fps as fun....I do play other not only fps...ex..sports uncharted gow etc...but I always go back for some cod...
