No Elite-Like Service For Battlefield...At Least, Not Yet

We know all about the Call of Duty Elite service for Activision's blockbuster franchise. But will EA follow suit for Battlefield?

Nope. Not just yet, at any rate. After telling the audience at the Citi 2011 Tech Conference that Battlefield 3 has already raked in 1.25 million pre-orders, EA CFO Eric Brown was asked if his company planned to mirror Activision's Call of Duty Elite subscription service. "The short answer is no," Brown replied. He later added that future installments in the series might charge players for certain things, and they'll "monitor and see what the outcome is."

While gamers everywhere might lash out, such a move might be inevitable. And besides, let's not forget that Call of Duty Elite is completely optional, and many of the features fans can get for free. So if EA does opt for a $50/year service of some kind, it won't stop you from playing Battlefield titles in the future. Still, EA will score some points with gamers by not implementing "Battlefield Elite" for BF3, right?

I hope they never implement something as useless as COD elite.
Its just another Activision scheme to get peoples money like the GD monthly fee for WOW.

To implement an online service like Elite and charge a yearly fee, a company is going to have to give some real value to their fans. You can't just have a pay-to-play site in hopes of having gamers sign up because of the name. Let's see a good BF first and then we'll worry about an online service worth it's weight.

A good BF? I suggest you check out BF2 which is a GREAT FPS and I don't see that changing with BF3.

But EA are implementing something pretty similar for Battlefield 3. It's called Battlelog, and is going to be like what Autolog was for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. I think what he means with these comments is that EA won't be charging anything for this service, unlike the Call Of Duty Elite system which will cost money.

i wish the government would start setting up IQ tests that way these idiots would not be allowed on the net!
common sense tells you EA will eventually add a paid service to battlelog.

My hope for Battlefield 3 is if it went like BFBC2, where early buyers (limited edition) gets a code and then gets all the release map packs free. Others would have to pay a one time fee of $15. All I care about is really the map packs. Extra guns, costumes, and such I have little interest in.

The beginning of the end?? I hope this isn't a trend of the next couple years. It was bad enough when DLC became big and we all felt/still feel like they should have been put into the games release.

I don't think BF has the following to need/require/deserve/get enough interest in a service like elite. I think it's presumptuous to think they should be allowed even to add a service like that. Maybe after/if BF3 blows up for the next year, they can talk about it for BF4. But I guess that's EA's m.o. too.

(Sorry, felt like a forward slash day.)

BF3 day 1 purchase. MW3, sorry I won't be giving Activision 200 bucks on the long run for a game that looks like a dlc of MW2 with some map packs and statistics.

Well they have the season ticket for thier sports games. Im not thrilled with EA's model right now. To many funny things going on in thier companies.
