Max Payne 3 Set For March: Bullet-Time And Multiplayer

Well, it's about time.

Today, Rockstar Games has announced that Max Payne 3 will release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in North America and European territories in March 2012.

In the new iteration, Max starts a new life working in private security for a wealthy industrialist in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Gangs target his client so the former cop fights to simultaneously save the life of his charge and clear his own name. It becomes a final desperate bid to "rid himself of the demons that have tortured him for far too long." This guy has been through the shredder. Said Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser:

"Max Payne 3 gave us an amazing creative opportunity to evolve one of our most iconic characters. We're excited to show fans a modern version of Max that pulls them back into his dark and twisted story."

Basically, Max Payne 3 picks up where MP2 left off, and they're calling this new project "a true cross-collaboration between Rockstar Games' global development teams." The game uses cutting-edge technology and implements the latest advances in Natural Motion physics, plus a brand new version of Rockstar's own Rockstar Advanced Game Engine. Obviously, we have high expectations with such details, and we're anxiously anticipating Max Payne's return.

In addition to a bunch of realistic weaponry, an intelligent cover system, and "sophisticated bullet-time mechanics" (yay!), we'll also get multiplayer for the first time. This new mode aims to be a "compelling experience that dynamically alters maps and mode progression." It also features a reward and leveling system, persistent clans, and multiple strategic load-out options. So yeah, this is sounding like the complete package, isn't it?

Now, about GTAV...

Frankly, I'm more excited about this one than GTAV. Max Payne was the first third person shooter I ever played and was the first game I purchased when I went to college, and the series holds a special place for me. Gimme the bullet time!!

Bullet Time in a multiplayer death match?... I know it's wrong but all I can see is a load of players diving in slow motion lol.

The game seems to have changed very much from the early shots years ago. But you say it is still set in Brazil? I would have believed that with the earlier screenshots, but the one on this article looks like another place and another Max. The earlier screenshots had a bald Max and a tropical climat, I remember many compairing it to Uncharted lol.

Graphics, physics, gameplay, motion capture, voice acting (JAMES MCCAFFREY IS BACK!!!), etc. Only complaints I have so far are no Sam Lake and strange setting (still don't understand Brazil but maybe it's just the start of the game).

Still though, the fact that McCaffrey is back gives me hope. Rockstar could dress him like Pennywise the Clown and I'd still be interested as long as James McCaffrey is the voice actor (and motion capture).

Now all we need is a Max Payne HD collection. Come on already!

Yes finally Max is coming! I wonder what all the analyst think now since they predicted the next GTA in early 2012. Rockstar a trailer is needed like now!

So THATS why we haven't heard anything. They were busy building a useless multiplayer mode. I just wanna get back into that SP with Max and his bullet time and pain pills.

Awesome news. When the game was first announced I though all hope was lost..Whoever that bald overweight redneck was,he wasn't Max Payne. But the more recent screenshots suggest that Rockstar has seen the overwhelming negative feedback, just as Sucker Punch did about Cole.

Couldn't care less about the multiplayer.I love the first two games for their noit athmosphere, characters, story and gameplay mechanics. If they manage to deliver on that,I'll be happy.

My thoughts exactly. When I saw the first screenshots I almost wrote the game off entirely. I know it was quick of me to jump the gun like that, but I mean, don't mess with Max Payne's character. We all love him the way he is. Even his transition from the first to the second game was a little much. He was more serious and less witty. Let's bring back the Max we love from the first game!
