FFXIII-2 90% Complete, Release Date Coming Soon
Well, that was fast.
According to some pre-TGS 2011 information found at Andriasang, it seems Final Fantasy XIII-2 is 90% complete, and we can even expect a finalized release date at the Tokyo Game Show. We've already heard that US gamers can expect it in January 2012 and if accurate, Japanese fans should get the highly anticipated action/RPG before the end of the year. And yes, we can probably call it an action/RPG, 'cuz a straight-up role-playing game...it ain't.
Plus, producer Motomu Toriyama also said to expect the following features: over 150 monsters to raise (yeah, you can catch and breed monsters in FFXIII-2), Chocobos will be ride-able anywhere, and oh yes, there's a time travel interface. You should definitely read up on that...who's psyched for the new FF adventure?

I really hope us europeans don't get it much after the US, the usual wait is 3 months after the US so if we don't get it by April I will be one sour trout.

So they tried to cash in on the fast paced western market. That didn't work out too well...
SO now they're trying to cash in on the widely popular in japan Monster Hunter stuff? Or is this just a revamped version of the old school Beastmaster class?
And time travel... sounds like one of the chrono games.
So... instead of hitting up FF as an FF, they interpreted "make Japanese games Japanese" as, "What are the most popular Japanese games? Monster Hunter and Chrono Trigger/Cross? Ok... let's do a combination of those WHILE staying uber cool Western!!!! This has GOT to work!"
idiots.
If I'm honest, I don't care if there's monster training... time travel... whatever the hell they want.... As long as there's a great story and the -gameplay- is what it's supposed to be, I'll be happy. But... since there's no way the gameplay will be anything other than skin-deep with paradigm shifting......
20 hours to learn.... minutes to master...... lol

Take FF7 for example: You could go through making everyone sorta good at everything, and get by tough spots just by leveling. That doesn't mean you've mastered it.
With Cloud damage dealing, Barret (or Vincent) tanking, you can throw in whatever else you want. Make Cid a damage dealer... throw in RedXIII or Tifa as your mages, make Yuffie your back-row RDM... (CaitSith is useless... I'm sorry... lol)
Beyond that, you can combine materia combinations for certain key effects. Your tank and physical damage dealers should have next to no magic, since magic materia removes HP and strength. But think about cool combinations with added effect support materia. Use Final Summon attached to Phoenix... you almost never die. Equip counter materia with time materia, stop or slow every enemy that hurts you. (Gives you time to heal)
That's why I love the materia system. So many possibilities and you can build your team however well or under-prepared as you want! It had that complexity FFXIII lacked.
With a balanced party, you will never have to grind levels, is my point. Every FF game I can think of should have a tank, damage dealer, magic users, etc. etc. etc. Games like FFX and FFIX assigned those roles for you, but you still needed to know how to use the correct balance.
FFXIII strategy is practically scripted. :(
