Gears 3 Will Play Second Fiddle To Uncharted 3
Uncharted 3: Drake's DeceptionLet me be perfectly clear right off the bat, lest the reader make a few snap assumptions:
1. I love Gears of War. I've kept my Xbox 360 almost exclusively for the purpose of playing these games.
2. In my eyes, the original Gears snagged the crown of the third-person shooter category.
3. I will absolutely own Gears 3 this month. That's going to happen.
That being said, no sooner did Gears take that aforementioned crown did Naughty Dog's epic Uncharted series snatch it away. While both franchises are very different in terms of tone, style, and even mechanics, they both fall into the same category. And as much as I love Epic's great series, I really can't see Gears 3 topping Uncharted 3 in any category. Visual presentation? Voice acting? Soundtrack? Overall control? Storyline? Characters? Environment? Yeah, sorry Gears, you can't win this one.
And it's so weird, too. In comparison to just about any other title out there, I'd take Gears 3 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. But after the brilliance that was Uncharted 2 - which I firmly believe is the single best game of the generation thus far - I just can't imagine Gears 3 closing the gap and surpassing Naughty Dog's third effort. Yes, I'm sure I'll adore both titles in question, and I'm sure both will be worthy of Game of the Year nods and various nominations. But only one will leave me with this singular feeling of awe, and I think I know which one it will be...

yeah, i could care less about gears 3, partly because i'm not interested when i played the previous ones and partly because i dont have a 360 anymore. However, white knight chronicles 2 is out tomorrow and i cant wait. i even passed on resistance 3 for now because i know i'll be playing wkc2 alot and its a waste to buy the game at full price right now and not play it for a while.
im getting it from gamestop to get the preorder bonus then return the game and get it at best buy because i have a giftcard. i usually get the preorder bonus at gamestop then return it then buy it somewhere else that has a good price. i was hoping that frys will have it cheaper like the new games they released lately but the best i could find is $5 off.

my plan was to get resistance 3 which came with a $20 kmart gaming coupon then use it at white knight chronicles 2. sadly kmart wont carry wkc2 because it didnt do well last time so i passed on resistance 3 as well. from what i'm hearing though kmart is gaving a really good deal on batman arkham city so i'm looking forward to that.

The stellar Uncharted 3 will once again display the Excellence of Sonys Exclusives and the power of the PS3.
The Epic Gears of War 3 will give the XBox its much needed injection of a AAA Exclusive franchise.
Exclusives are what give a console life. Enjoy the oncoming onslaught of games guys.

But yeah, someone else on here coined the phrase but Gears is like "controlling a turd through an ass" or something similar and it really bugs me. I need the freestyle play that Uncharted gives me. That and the epic awesomeness unmatched by any adventure ever.

hahaha, i hated the demo the moment i started it. but unlike the time i hated the valkyria chronicles demo, i wont even try the full retail game. valkyria chronicles was a fluke, and i really loved the game now. i think i even bought the dlc so i should go back and play those. The valkyria chronicles anime kinda left a bad taste with me so i need to get back to the game.

I know it's mostly a preference thing, but Gears 3 really is the most "pop in fire" shooter of the action genre. Many times it really feels to me like gaining yards on a football field. You have these thick, relatively slow, gears. Who can't really navigate around all that well, so even with it's locked down "always to your back" camera they do fine just being able to press forward, take cover and pop up for those quick burst kills. Just don't let yourself get crowded by the enemy, the play falls apart fast as you lumber around trying to setup that melee attack or prep that shotgun. And don't think too far outside of the box trying to position yourself better in the battle field, chances are that thick barricade in front of you is almost always all you need to set up camp, shoot down the grunts and then press forward. There's no higher places to get to, no around the side through that pile of rubble area to sneak through and flank around on. It's pretty much a one way straight trip going from one pop 'n fire shoot out to the next.
But hey, it's just me. THere's millions who love it anyway.
I know people like doing that. They're all enamored by it's look, feel and soul. I honestly think so much of it's popularity rides with this. Because, really, when it comes down to all the things you can do in a game like Uncharted, even when just looking at it's combat, the Gears just don't stack up in play. It's always slower, but never smarter because of it. Though, to it's credit, it sure as heck looks awesome and throws a whole lot of cool set pieces and some incredible bosses your way while doing it. Hey, I'm game. But don't expect me to give it much more time than a round trip pass from Blockbuster and back. After then, maybe I'll pick it up used for $5(gears1) or $10(gears2) and give it just one more go.

Its impossible to compare *any* games these days without someone pointing out their one relatively minor difference and saying that makes the comparison unfair. If the games were exactly alike there would be no reason to compare them!
Don't compare my Focus to a Mustang because the Focus is FWD!!!!!!

I always saw Gears as more of a competition to the Resistance series - both being the premier shooters unique to each platform - and with that being said - Gears 3 better be pretty damn special to measure up to R3

Gears will sell more, to be sure, but Uncharted will undoubtedly be the go-to game of a great many PS3 owners.

gears and uncharted are like the mclaren mp4-12c and the ferrari 458 itallia.
the mclaren is most certainly the more technical car, the ferrari is by far the more fun car there for by far the best car!
my emotions from uncharted 2 were wow thats so cool, i cant believe ND were able to do that!
my emotions from gears 2 were OMFG this is so cool!
thats why to me gears 3 will be by far the better game, simply because its allot more fun!
uncharted is too much the engineers car.

its far too much the engineers car, what they should of done is let the engineers do their work then give it to a 10 year old kid.
games to me are exactly the same.
you have the ferraris of the industry and the mclaren.
give me the ferrari over anything any day of the week simply because its the one thats just that bit more fun!
its what i was saying the other day, you either have those amazing technological masterpieces AKA uncharted or you have the to be frank ps2 games but were fun as hell like just cause 2.
sadly we very rarely get both, so give me the fun as hell game over the OMFG look how perty it is game any day of the week!
