TGS 2011: DoA5 Coming In 2012, Ninja Gaiden III Details

While the Vita and Square Enix kicked things off with a bang during Sony's press conference, Team Ninja also made their presence known early.

During their pre-Tokyo Game Show event, developer Team Ninja made several announcements, which will likely satisfy both fighting and action aficionados.

First is the confirmation of Dead or Alive 5, which will arrive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year. The PS3 has yet to see a DoA installment and DoA4 shipped as a 360 launch title nearly six years ago, so it's nice to see this bouncy fighter return. ...if you don't know why we use the adjective "bouncy," you're obviously not familiar with the franchise.

Secondly, we got more details for the upcoming Ninja Gaiden III. Team Ninja debuted a video explaining the "three strokes" concept, which we first heard about at E3 earlier this year. The first stroke represents the katana while the second stroke represents consequence; the third...well, we don't know yet. As for gameplay, they detailed a system that would allow both hardcore followers of the series and newbies to enjoy the experience.

This happens via two separate and unique play styles: Ninja, which focuses on the action, and Hero, which puts more of an emphasis on story and gives the uninitiated benefits like auto-guard and auto-evade. Both styles will let you take part in some bloody dismemberment because Team Ninja wants us to know what it feels like "to cut someone down." Well, thanks. We always wanted to know. Lastly, they briefly touched on the multiplayer mode, where 8 players will go at it to become top ninja.

We really can't wait for Ninja Gaiden III and hey, I always liked Dead or Alive. Not being all that great at fighting games, I could actually play DoA.

Yeah I like it very much too, I hope this new Tecmo doesn't mess it up too much. I miss Itakagi.

Well apart from DoA 2 hardcore and 3... the other DoAs were crap if you look at the story.

Now that Itakagi is gone tho, they made a nice DoA dimension that takes all the tiny mixed story bits and gives you an understandable story and a much more satisfying single player story lol. So as far as DoA I wont miss him one bit.

Ninja Gaiden is nice but let's face it... The story isn't what was driving us lol nor was the acting XD So without a doubt they can do much better storywise too now that hes gone.

I am sure Team Ninja will do much better without him :D and improve what has already been done in the right direction. Heck maybe hes the reason we didn't get ps3 versions earlier on too (for DoA).

Actually, I think it was since 2000. DOA2: HC and TTT were the two games that came home with me late one October night of the PS2 launch.

Oh, just the game that every person ignores when they state "just look at the graphical difference between PS2 launch titles and games from 5 years after that"
The reality is Tekken Tag Tournament was one of the very best looking games ever to have released on PS2. Find it, put it in, play it, you'll agree.
But anyway, I know most games didn't look like TTT at the time, it irks me just a little when it's graphical mastery is ignored, suggesting all PS2 launch titles looked far removed from later offerings. That game was the sure exception and it doesn't get enough recognition for for that.

Ben you were a busy bee last night. Nice reporting.

Dead or Alive was one of the few fighting games I could play without smashing my controller in frustration (I suck at fighting games).

And the big boobs were a plus too.

Ninja Gaiden 3 is easily day 1 purchase. DOA not so much. I always thought it was fun to look at but never enjoyed playing it.

I thought Ninja Gaiden 3 had its dismemberment features removes because "nobody wanted to see that anymore". I lost interest in the game after that because that was one of the defining selling points for Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360. No dismemberment, no NG3 purchase...
