MGS HD Collection Trailer Surfaces

Metal Gear Solid fans are anxiously awaiting the high-definition overhauls for the second and third entries in Hideo Kojima's legendary franchise.

But wouldn't you like an early glimpse of the overhauled goodness? Here's a trailer for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection; it features a look at the upgraded visual presentation along with a few gameplay details. It would help if you spoke Japanese; if not, you can still get a good idea of what to expect. This is one hell of a collection for all the fans...it's just missing an HD version of the original Metal Gear Solid. Well, can't have everything.

What do you think? You want it, right? Seeing that trailer reminds me of how amazing past titles have been; I still remember being completely blown away by the ending in MGS3. And that final boss fight was both subtle and beautiful. If you're an avid MGS follower, you'll watch this video and the memories will come flooding back...

Gosh that deluxe boxset looks delicious! I hope we get the same treatment in Europe. I have t oadmit I am looking forward to this. I have moaned about MGS2 & 3 not being in widescreen for years, now, finally that issue will be resolved.

I still believe Peacewalker is the greatest MGS I have ever played next to the original on PS1 and MGS4 on PS3. Peacewalker was just so huge, especially for a handheld game!! And the gameplay and controls were just spot on perfect!! The story was really good too, not anywhere near as confusing or strange as MGS2.

I love the PS2 MGS games, but I'm mainly getting this collection for Peacewalker in HD. Anywhere here doing the same?

Really I have tried getting into it twice but got bored both times, the story just seems too focused on the politics of the times & the characters take the backseat.

I also cannot stand the cutscenes, I would prefer them to be with the character models like every other Metal Gear. Also, I from the 10 hours I played there were no character bosses just over futuristic machines.

PW offered background info on The Boss, which was very much needed. In MGS3 i'm suppose to feel sad at the end when The Boss dies, but i don't feel anything because i don't anything about her. As far as the story being about the politics and not the characters, i would recommend listening to the briefing tapes, they offer a lot of background info on the characters. There is also Chapter 5 Outer Heaven which connected greatly with MGS4's story. The AI bosses may not be the most memorable in the series, but their better than no bosses at all, and they are a nice departure from the human bosses in previous games. I don't think there are any more supernatural human bosses kojima could do anyway.

the best mgs game since the origanal mgs1? i have yet to play peacewalker but i am thrilled to hear you say that becuase mgs1 is still my favorite mgs game in the series becuase of its fantastic story. so many fond memories of the series as whole but i can still remember being absolutely blown away by mgs1. the fantastic codec conversations added a layer of intimacy i had never experienced in a game prior to that. it kind of made the other games i bought that year feel a little empty and hollow in comparison.

does peacewalker feature in depth codec conversations and voice acting? the reason i ask is becuase the codec conversations were scaled back after mgs1/mgs2 and peacewalker was originally a psp game(not as much room on a umd to feature voice acting).

i still felt sadness when the boss died becuase i could tell how much snake admired and cared about her. i understand what you are saying...more background on the boss would have made it feel even more tragic that snake had to take her down. i very much look forward to getting more back story on the boss and snake's relationship with her. the things you and dancemachine say about peacewalker have me even more excited about this collection.

@Excelsior1 & SoulContoller. MGS PW imo deserves to be called MGS5. there are moments that seem like more went into this than MGS4. I don't think either of you will be disappointed.

There aren't as many Codec conversations as the first MGS, but in saying that there is still enough to please fans of the story. I really got sucked into the story of Peacewalker and grew to care for the 16 year old girl you were helping in South America.

Not only that, but I like it when games implement real life politics into a fictional game, helps me connect with it. I usually take an interest in political history as well, especially when it concerns wars, assassination, cover ups and so forth, which Peacewalker has some of.

Peacewalker had excellent gameplay too, and with a right stick to move the camera and aim now, should be much better.

If you're a big MGS fan, you owe it to yourself to play Peacewalker. Fox Hounder is right, technically it is MGS5 since it is bigger and more ambitious in scope than any MGS of the past. Recruitment and training of your personal army and staff as Big Boss was the best part of Peacewalker!! Added an extra layer of strategy over the action set pieces. :)

I'm not sure but I might have cried when I found out the boss knew she was on a suicide mission. Sacrificing herself and her reputation for the greater good.

I also felt awful when I hit square, but even worse after finding out the about her real mission.

MGS3 was definatly the strongest MGS story wise.

Dancmachine55 said it best. And to add to that, PW has briefing tapes that you can listen to, which are basically codec conversations that take place before a mission. They add a lot of background info on the characters, i'd even go as far as to say that they are just as good as the cut scenes. I was sucked in from start to finish. @Subjective Truth. It seemed to me that MGS3 tried to hard to have a standalone story, giving long time MGS fans nothing but easter eggs. The story was good though, and better than most games.

I'll definitely be getting this pack. I've purchased every single MGS game ever made...for all consoles (including the ones on Xbox).

But to show us some real love, how about a Trophy patch for MGS4?? Pretty please?

Thanks for posting this Ben. I'm having a rough day and this help cheer me up. I've never been into HD remakes but I will be an exception for this gem. Sadly I don't think I'll be home when this package releases.

When they were giving away some of the stats they should have just said "the greatest game franchise of all time" You could never prove something like that but the true Metal Gear fans would understand.

How does that make any sense? So would you also prefer the collection to launch exclusively in your country too so that way the audience is even more limited? The more people in the world who get to experience these masterpieces, the better.

I would prefer for it to launch exclusively on the system it was always exclusive to. I'm tired of games getting watered down to fit on a dvd or so they can run on the 360 hardware.

Dude, these game where originally on a dvd, and the 360 version is on two disks, they are not being "watered down". These aren't games being built from the ground up on the PS3 & 360, This collection is not a remake, its a re-release, 360 hardware limitations don't matter here. And this collection going multiplat is a good thing depending on how you look at it, if a enough people play it on 360 then they might feel inclined to buy a PS3 to play MGS4 to see how Snake's story ends.

You are talking about two PS2 games that were made on DVD discs. I'm pretty sure they will fit on XBOX 360 DVDs, even with their HD upgrade.

I kinda felt the same way man...it was great up until the 360. But in the end Im happy because more people get to enjoy the MGS fever I once (And still do) had. Plus we cant complain saying the 360 nerfd this game, LoL!

Very true, and MGS3 was announced for the 3DS before this collection was. Here is brief history of MGS releases prior to the announcement of the collection and MGS 3D, Metal Gear (MSX2. NES & PS2), Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake (MSX2 & PS2), Metal Gear Solid (PS1 & PC), MGS2 (PS2, Xbox & PC), MGS TTS (GC) MGS3 (PS2). MGS Portable Ops (PSP), MGS4 (PS3).

lol. that's a good one. Seriously though, you'd be surprised at the number of comments i've read of people saying they won't get the collection because MGS1 is not included. And on that note, MGS1 is available on the Playstation Store for $9.99, if you don't have it or have never played it then buy it, its inexpensive.

Judging by what I see in the trailer it also comes with the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake as well as a Metal Gear Solid product code. Now that is a badass bundle.

Too bad it doesn't seem NA or EU are getting them though; I assume we're getting Peacewalker instead [the front cover of the Japanese version is missing Peacewalker].

Yeah in japan PW is being sold separately from MGS2 & 3, that's why they are getting an MGS1 product code. We are getting the better end of that deal as PW will most likely be full price (or close to it), MGS1 only cost $9.99 on the playstation store, so for about $60 one could have the entire series. And Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake are coming with US version as well.

Man I'm getting this just to add to my collection since I don't still own the original games anymore, but I probably won't even play them. That's how much MGS has affected my gaming past....love this series.

Honestly, I'm most excited for Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. They weren't included in the Essential Collection I have for PS2, so I'm really anxious to play them.

I too got the essential collection for the PS2, i was ticked about the second disk of subsistance not being included, ended up getting an MSX emulator to play MG & MG2. Still though, having them on my PS3 trump's an emulator any day of the week.
