FFXIII-2 Trailers "Promise" Fans They Shouldn't "Despair"

Now that we have a solidified North American launch date for Final Fantasy XIII-2, it's time to get a closer look.

We've seen plenty of footage already, but these two new videos show off the unbelievable production values we expect. Regardless of how you view the potential of this sequel, it's clear that this game strives for fantastic flash and satisfying special effects. Oh, and the story and action should be fun, too. The first trailer is called "Promise" and starts with Hope finding a certain dagger...

The second is called "Despair" and is even more epic. Although some may not like Lightning's new look, we have to admit...it works.

Well, at the very least, this one is going to get a lot of attention between now and the end of January. And I'll say it again- I thought FFXIII was a great game. Not elite, but great. It just wasn't a great Final Fantasy and it sorta threw away its role-playing card.

Hey What the f*ck? That's BS. The end of XIII wasn't what really happened and Lightning wasn't really present with her very first smile at the end? Stuuuupid.

Oh well, it's Final Fantasy, my hands are tied.

So are they disregarding what Fang and Vanille supposedly have done in the end of FFXIII? Or maybe it's happening in a different timeline.. Now I'm curious. Darn it.

Not a single PS3 logo. Know what's ironic? The original FFXIII trailer that came out years before it released was what made me want to get a PS3 right out of the gate.

It's all to do with the time travel part of the game, lightnings timeline has changed and only serah remembers she was safe. Which will most likely be the first paradox of the game.

I really can't wait for this game.I know I won't be getting a FFVII type of rpg but I want to give Square a chance after all their efforts to rectify the flaws in FFXIII.

Summarization of new features:
Chocobo racing
Casino/Gold Saucer 2.0
Time travel
Change leader during battles
Potentially a better villain *Barthandelus was awful*
Recruit monsters into your party and customize them
Side quests early in the game
More exploration and revamped "towns"

I say bring it SE. Haters, please reserve your judgment at least before the game is released.Who knows the game might cast Healing Wind on you ;)

I'll probably enjoy it. I liked FFXIII alright. Can't say I'll ever play it again, but I did like it.

Still, it's a little sad my jRPG fix doesn't come from FF this gen. So far, it's come from WKC and WKC2. Which is fine. It's just too bad the first time in 2 decades my favorite franchise hasn't been FF. No hating. Just a little sad after all the years.

Anyways, the couple months leading up to this release will have me extremely busy in real life, which means my gaming time will be very much reduced. And with an enormous backlog that will be added to over the next couple months (ICO/SotC, AC:R, UC3, WKC2, LBP2 (Just got it from Blockbuster's going out of business sale for $30 brand new), and quite a few other titles), it will be extremely unlikely I'll even get an opportunity to play FFXIII-2 near it's release, let alone choose to get it D1.

So for me, this title will be an investment some time well after it's release, likely.

As a long time Final Fantasy fan I'll probably pick this game up at some point. But on the other hand I'll be keeping my expectations at least somewhat low because of the more recent behavior of Square-Enix.

Not so sure about that. The new song seems to work well with XIII-2, but I don't think it'll compare to "Suteki da ne" in Final Fantasy X.

LoL are you serious? Puts the theme songs from older FFs to shame? Did you even play all the classic FF's? or at least from 7-10? 7 = one winged angel / aeriths theme. 8 = eyes on me. 9 = melodies of life. 10 = suteki da ne. 10-2= 1000 words. 12 = Main FF theme. All of these songs are classics and can never be compared! And whenever you hear there theme song again its like it brings you back to when you were playing them! and makes you a little bit sad that you'll never have the same experience as when you first played and went through the FF adventure. I'm not saying ff13-2 song is bad but im pretty sure that it's not as epic as the old FF themes. The song is good but is not as fitting for FF as the music that Nobuo Uematsu used to do for the music of FF.

These jRPG-styled games need to -SERIOUSLY- stop with the sappy and awful lyrics. WKC2's main theme song is ruined by bad singing/lyrics. It's just terrible. It's forced writing that NEVER fits very well. Ill conceived inspiration for these songs ruins them. Just give me the complex instrumentals that do more than deliver a melody. Seriously. The lyrics aren't written well... it's like they are forced to fit the game... and it seems fake.

DQ8 had absolutely no lyrics... and it was amazing. I have lots of FF music on my computer and iPOD (don't worry, I have hundreds of other songs from recognizable artists, too, lol) and Suteki da ne is excellent.... when it ISN'T the version with singing. The singing destroys the song.

As eLLeJuss pointed out, there is now way in hell these ballads are better than one winged angel (FFVII) or liberi fatali (FFVIII), also, there was no music as strong and poetic in FFXIII as the Zanarkand theme from FFX and there is no better game music than Terra's song from FFVI, period. Getting that out of the way, I enjoyed FFXIII a great deal and these trailers are making FFXIII-2 very close to a first day purchase.

For the record, I'm currently replaying FFVI after buying it off PSN. I was glad that I saved Shadow this time. The first time I played it I didn't wait for him and when I found out he wasn't coming back I felt kinda guilty.

So the sequel pretty much negated the ending of the first game. Nice move, S-E. *sarcasm* And what is with with Snow's new look? Seeing Hope mature though is quite a welcome change. He seems to have really grown a lot. And oh, I'll miss Fang!!

Btw, I find it odd that the 360 gets the game on January 31 but it'll be released February 3 on the PS3. A four-day timed exclusivity? LOL Anyway, I guess S-E read a lot of peoples' comments about getting the game later (when it drops in prices) so they thought releasing it late on the PS3 wouldn't matter much. I kid! ;-)

Sorry but not interested.

SE blew it with spin off after spin off.
As far as FFXIII-2 well.........

I have scraped things from the bottom of my boots that were more interesting than this game at present.

My personal expectations are that this game may get a purchase once PSX reviews are in and the game hits bargain bin pricing levels.

Final Fantasy is dead and SE/Microsoft killed it.

OMG!! I just watched a FFXIII-2 trailer and the ""music""....bah!! total facepalm and total fail! from SE!

This "game" just went even lower on my bargain bin only type buys.

Paradigm shift combat would have to be removed before I would consider picking up FFXIII-2. I doubt the features they're adding were highly requested by fans. They seem like cheap additions to distract from the awful combat.

lightning as warrior goddess=epic. mucic choices for trailer=fail. i will add that i liked ff13 a lot despite its flaws. there has not been an elite ff game since ff10 imo.

After what has been done with FF XIII and all the loving they've been giving microsoft and SE want to try and muster a sorry we messed up so heres a sequal? I don't think so. I'm not going to buy into what they call a game. To me it's not worth $60 that was probably sopposed to be in the first game anyway no matter what they tell the public.

Give me FFvsXIII at least nomura(spelled right?) seems to care about the player base rather than money over player base.

This trailer just completely removed FFXIII-2 from my radar....I'll be the first to admit that I enjoyed the first game to some extent, but now I'm just tired of what SE is attempting to do here.

On a similar note: what the F*** is up with the music?! It literally had me cringing throughout the whole thing X[

If they kill the vocals then the "game" will be a tiny bit better.

As it is now the vocals are cringe worthy.

Even the vocals in FFX-2 were much better and thats saying something since FFX-2 was a hit or miss with the fans.

I can accept sitting through -ONE- bad song with bad lyrics any day.

But main themes... you gotta hear that more or less over and over.

For example, I enjoyed WKC's main theme... and I was liking WKC2's theme as well... until that terrible Shakira wannabe came in.

Well, that trailer music was pretty bad, but we won't be hearing that too much ingame.

I liked FFXIII and this looks a lot better than the first one. I'll definitely be getting this, but only when it gets cheaper. I guess it's okay to mess with what happens when you have a time paradox, but that really seems like an excuse to me.

The story is ridiculous, but not any more ridiculous than that of the other Final Fantasies. There seems to be less random anime cliche thrown (though there's still plenty) and the characters actually seem a lot more likeable. I think I'll be enjoying Hope scenes instead of cringing through them.

I also hope there's a hard mode. FFXIII-2 could be strategic if the enemies are hard enough. I think if they're going with an action-RPG style they should have allowed us to move the characters while taking their turn, which could really improve the gameplay.

You know what I'd like to see? A ridiculous Final Fantasy spinoff that's a ripoff of Twilight Princess. They did something similar before with Secret of Mana ;)
