Dark Souls Cleared To Haunt Store Shelves In October

It's the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls; how can you not be excited?

Today, Namco Bandai Games America Inc. has announced that Dark Souls "has been approved for production" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. We assume that's their way of saying the highly anticipated title has gone gold.

It'll arrive as scheduled on October 4 in North America and three days later in Europe. From Software's challenging RPG tasks players with battling "hideous demons and unimaginable monsters," all in the ultimate quest to find the Eternal Flame of Life, which is failing. If it goes out, the undead will rule uncontested for eternity. Here's a brief summary from the press release:

"With tense dungeon crawling and fearsome enemy encounters, the seamlessly intertwined world of Dark Souls is full of extreme battles, rewarding challenges, nuanced weaponry and magic, and the flexibility to customize each character to suit any desired play style. The innovative online component allows gamers to draw from the collective experience of the Dark Souls community as they either help or sabotage each other on the journey through the Northern Realms to save the land from darkness. With a massive, seamless open world design, Dark Souls encourages deep exploration and an adaptable gameplay experience."

If you're enthusiastic about this one, you might want to spring for the Collector's Edition...we won't have to twist your leg, either, 'cuz it costs the same as the standard edition ($59.99). To get it, you just have to pre-order. It includes a limited edition art book, a mini-strategy guide, the original game soundtrack, and behind-the-scenes videos.

There's a link posted in the forums about what the dev's have done to retailers who are playing copies of the game before release. VERY funny. People should go check it out.

Some people from where that video came from... seem to have.. a lesser understanding of life. Some people feel sorry or say they won't buy the game since it's so hard wth. They are only doing this pre-release to punish abusers lol. Man internet IQ ain't at it's highest point O_O

I've had my Collector's Edition pre-ordered for a couple weeks now. I can't wait! I'm getting White Knight Chronicles II in the mail today which should keep me busy until Dark Souls arrives.

Good news, World.

FM, Batman has always been a $40 or less purchase to me, as the first was good, but never really gelled with me. I did enjoy it for what it was and am interested in seeing what happens next. As for BF, I was going to get it, but playing over BC 1&2 has made me remember why I do not like such games. They're not bad games, to be sure, but they bore me...

I'd be more likely to get Rage or Ratchet and Clank than Batman or BF... Though SH is still slated for October. I'm really curious about that one, as I'm sure that it'll get delayed yet.

Im taking off work for this. Demons souls is the best ps3 exclusive to date along with mgs4 in my opinion. Dark Souls im ready for you!

Sorry, just a bit off topic: Does anyone know if they're taking down the servers for Demon's Souls? I heard something to this effect and need to know how long I have to finish the game....

They said something like that before but it's not happening to my knowledge. The developers said if all the players that are playing still play it, the servers will remain up.

wish catherine did not get delayed till next year, i mean come on how long does it take to get the US version ready for release here!?
