BF3 Producer Bach Critical Of His Previous Efforts
You know what we need more of? In every field and aspect of life? Perfectionists.
We know of several in the gaming industry. Names like Hideo Kojima, David Cage, and Kazunori Yamauchi come to mind. But maybe we should add another: Battlefield 3 producer Patrick Bach.
In a very interesting interview with The Wall Street Journal, Bach says he is overly critical of his previous titles and in fact, he's "ashamed" of them. That includes the stellar Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which met with substantial critical acclaim and earned big sales numbers. Said Bach:
"I don't know why, but I always feel ashamed about the games I'm involved in making. I can't even bring myself to start up Battlefield Bad Company 2, our last game, because I feel so ashamed. I know it is a great product, but still I only see the things we could have done better."
Of course, many are excited for Battlefield 3 and most believe it will be one of the most impressive productions of the entire generation. But that doesn't mean Bach is comfortable. He's still worried he'll feel the same about BF3 as he did about Bad Company 2:
"I'm still extremely nervous, not about what other people will think, but about how I will feel about the game. My biggest worry is that I will feel bad about the product. For me, my job is very personal."
Well, he's either a perfectionist or a big-time pessimist. Either way, people like this typically strive to reach the stars, if only to avoid that intensely critical view of themselves and their work. Considering this, we have to assume someone like Bach would hate to put his name on a sub-par game. So yeah, we're plenty excited.
