September's Top 20 For The PSN: Retro Lovin'

Everyone's lovin' the retro stuff.

Sony has announced the top 20 best-selling PlayStation Network titles for last month, and half the list consists of old-school releases and reimaginings. It's just so cool.

The Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection was #1 in September; the great assembly of golden-age arcade goodness includes ports of the very first Mortal Kombat, along with Mortal Kombat II and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The newly released Resident Evil 4 drops into the second spot, Ubisoft's interesting play-God title From Dust comes in at #3, and Angry Birds and Resident Evil 2 round out the top five. Here's the full list:

  • 1. Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
  • 2. Resident Evil 4
  • 3. From Dust
  • 4. Angry Birds
  • 5. Resident Evil 2
  • 6. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
  • 7. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair
  • 8. Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition
  • 9. Limbo
  • 10. Final Fantasy VII
  • 11. Resident Evil Director's Cut
  • 12. Parasite Eve II
  • 13. Burnout Crash!
  • 14. Elemental Monster Online Card Game
  • 15. Breath of Fire IV
  • 16. Saints Row 2
  • 17. Renegade Ops
  • 18. Call of Duty Classic
  • 19. Castle Crashers
  • 20. Battlefield 1943

Looking at this list, I have to apologize for not getting more downloadable reviews done. But given the time of year, I have to prioritize, although I swear I'll get to that Harmony of Despair review at some point. I can really only focus on the vouchers they send me for review; fortunately, I don't get codes for all the new digital games on the PSN...unfortunately, I seem to get codes for most.

For the record, A Crysis review should be coming this weekend, and a Sideway: New York review this week.

and you will soon learn not to pass judgement on things till you have tried them properly.
they certainly got a long way to go to match cinema quality, but they most certainly do not suck!

Hi:
I'm glad MK Arcade collection made the first place. It's an excellent Collection. Resident Evil 4 HD is another GREAT game. I wonder how much sales RECV HD has (for sale the LAST week of September). Thanks to PS+ I have Resident Evil Games from 1 to 5, I wonder if that "Best-selling" list is counting PS+ free games ("best-selling" vs Downloaded)?
Red 5.

Actually, according to that official blog post, the PS+ free downloads aren't included on this list.

I've heard the MK Arcade Kollection had some glaring audio glitches. Is it really that bad?

Funny how everyone is talking about how trashy the games on phones are and then Angry Birds, of all titles, is found at number four on the psn bestseller list. :D

But yeah, From Dust looks to be a really interesting title, the demo was great. However it will have to wait, I gave Crysis priority. Gotta love that suit.
Will be interesting to read your review on that one Ben! I got my clear opinions about it and it will be fun to see if they match yours.

The retro on that list surprises me. I wonder what the sales figures are and wonder whether the prevalence of such older games show what consumers like when away from the big time games on disc. Seriously, the RE games could have received a compilation disc and would have sold well I think. From Dust should definitely get an expanded version. Cool to see what people are buying on PSN though.

I cant figure out how to reply to the intended commentator using the PS3 browser. But I have MK and COD: BO and they both look great in 3d albeit I have to take breaks often to avoid eye strain

not surprising really.
as ive said a billion times, a old retro game is 100000 times more fun then todays games!
hopefully this will give $ony more confidence to do more HD remakes.
why one of the best series to ever hit the system has not been done yet is beyond me!
i mean come on, R&C is one of the most popular, most beloved playstation franchises out there!
so wheres the HD remake?
