Netflix: No Qwikster, Video Games Still Up In The Air

Hey, you can't go back on the announcement! Netflix members want video games!

After the movie subscription service jacked its rates by as much as 60% this past summer, the company announced a drastic change: the Netflix brand would offer on-demand movie streaming at its website, while a newly branded addition, Qwikster, would deal with the physical copies sent via mail.

But that isn't going to happen right now. In a recent blog update, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings says they've shelved plans to make the aforementioned split. Therefore, no Qwikster and Netflix users will just keep doing business as usual; the site will be used for both physical media and streaming content. Hastings just believes the re-branding would've made "things more difficult" for consumers.

As a result, it doesn't appear as if Netflix will adopt games. According to GameSpot, the company is "still considering" adding interactive entertainment to their repertoire.

Well, there's always GameFly.

I recently cancelled my membership and I'm glad I did. Part of my reason was my decline in watching movies/tv and the price change rather than allowing current subscribers to be grandfathered in on their plans. Then when them splitting their user base with quickster(who though splitting the user base was a good idea?)I chose to cancel. Personally I think they have made some poor business decisions lately and really alienated their customers.

I would think for $8 a month, that's an incredibly good deal even IF they split it. Unlimited streaming or unlimited renting for $8? I think people are just spoiled by their previous service. This is an incredibly good deal - even if they split it in half.

I wish it was like the xbox 360 version of netflex where you and your friends can get together and watch the same thing.

Netflix's constant business model shuffling is getting ridiculous. There must be a lot of pressure in the market or by Hollywood to have these changes. Any way you look at it the customer may lose out one way or another (the price hike is already one strike).

Netflix has been fumbling the ball quite a bit lately. They should have just been honest and straightforward with the price hike to begin with, then maybe they wouldn't have lost so many customers. However, I'm willing to forgive them now that they've finally added Frasier to their streaming service. I think they should still try out video games at least.

Netflix just can't help messing up one time after the other. I think this SNL video pretty much sums it up, and also happens to be pretty funny :)
