GT5 Spec 2.0 Update Live, Paid DLC Coming Next Week

The great - and free - Spec 2.0 update is now available and the anticipated downloadable content has been dated.

Firstly, the Spec 2.0 update features a cockpit view for all standard cars, 2011 NASCAR cars, better load times, additional functionality and control for online multiplayer, and compatibility for the Logitech G25/G27 racing wheels. We heard about the upcoming batch of DLC a few weeks ago, but we only knew it'd release some time soon. So here comes the first paid DLC; as revealed at the PlayStation Blog, it'll be available next week on October 18.

There will be four separate packs. The Course Pack will feature SPA-Francorchamps and Kart Space layouts I and II for $4.99, The Car Pack will give you 15 new vehicles (including the Red Bull X2011) for $7.99, the Racing Gear Pack offers 90 total suits, helmets, and other gear for $1.99, and the Paint Pack tosses in 100 new car colors for $1.99. Now, if you want all four, you can get 'em for the bargain price of $11.99. Just more additions that make the best simulator we've seen even better.

This is a great addition to an already excellent production. GT5 fans are going to be very happy indeed from what I have read. The improvements definitely seem to have been worth the wait. Now, it may be the right time to take the plunge and add this game to my collection, no?

What do other PsXeXtremers have to say about the update?

I pretty much finished the game, so there wasn't much for me. If you still got ways to go on the game though, or if you just started, this update will be awesome for ya. You'll love the fact that you get boosted XP/Credits for logging in consecutively. And as Clamedeus said, the load times are noticeably faster. You'd really appreciate this if you compare it to its early days.

My favorite is the fact that the physics have definitely change. A lot of my car setups acted wildly different. I had to adjust the suspension settings quiet a bit. In the end, the cars have a better overall feel, especially the F1GT and F2007. I love it!

I updated last night. The update went live some time in the night. They give you the Red Bull car as a free gift for after updating. So far I have gotten the Red Bull car close to 280mph.

Hmmm, not sure. I thought the one you get after updating was the X11. It might be the X10. That said, I can't say which I prefer as the one you get with the update is the only one I have driven. I never bought the one that was made available in the game after completing most of it. It's too expensive. :) I have a ton of cars in my garage and even with 14million in the bank, I still don't have enough to buy the one in the store.

Buy and upgrade every car in the store is the only way I can think of. Plus you can always buy a ton of used cars and cars from the online store. There are quite a few cars that are outrageously expensive in the online store.

That might be the X10 that everybody got because Sebastian Vettel won the championship.

I don't think they would give the X11 for free...not right now at least. That would take away a substantial amount of charm from the DLC car pack.

The X11 can supposedly go 311 without draft. Your X10 should be able to go 290mph easy. Did you change your oil?

Btw, any of you guys beat the S.Vettel X10 Challenge in Special Event? I had to use my wheel for that.

I know you can bronze the online event though. Actually, 1:25 is way too easy even, for gold. Everyone should get on that. It's big money.

Cockpit view for all standard cars eh?
So that means I can view my sweet ol' Buggati Veyron's cockpit!!!!
How could Polyphony not included the Veyron as a premium car!!!
Rant aside, is that suppose to be an update?
That's too much of a content for an update, hell, sometimes paying for an DLC doesn't even get you this much content!

But then again, this update gotta be huge so I guess I'll be leaving my PS3 on for one night....

Don't get too excited. While the addition of cockpit views for standard cars are a nice option, for the most part and from what I have seen they are just a silhouettes. The detail is lacking. Though the rest of the update is superb.

By the way, the update is only a little over 1GB. It only took me about 10 minutes to download it.

I bet that they put the brand badge on the steering wheel, and have slightly different shapes of mirror and styles of instruments. Even if you only had a couple of styles of instrumentation per era, along with re-labeling the steering wheel and altering the mirror shape, you could create a reasonable amount of variation.

Indeed. So far though it's just an all black silhouette with a little detail for the steering wheel and hands. There are no instruments. I have only driven a few standard cars though so it could very more. I thought I read that it would very depending on the cars you used but I haven't noticed much of a difference so far.

@Snaaaake, Why not hope for DLC instead of GT6? :) The new content scheduled for next week has 15 new cars. No word one what they are yet though. I assume they are premium. Maybe if we are loud enough they will heed our demand. :)

To be honest, after all these updates and DLC, I kinda hope that they can focus on GT6.

Since the engine is already up and running(no pun intended if there's any), all that's left is optimized it so GT6 shouldn't take as long as GT5.

I'd say 2013.

Nice find Swapnil! Though I was hoping for more of a variety. There are already so many Nissan Skylines in the game.

And 8 hours?! What's is your mbps? Do you have cable or DSL? I have Comcast and on a good night when there's little congestion I get up to 12mbps. And that's through a wifi set up too.

Yeah, the entire DLC is kindaa meh! I can't believe they're selling paint chips! The only things that interset me are SPA and X2011.

I'm supposedly on 1 MBPS cable, but there you go. Reason why the world isn't ready yet for "digital distribution only" consoles.

I sold GT5. I know, it's a sin, but I have a reason. I don't have my game room completely finished yet so I can't use my wheel yet and I couldn't stand playing with the controller so I got rid of it for now. I will re-buy at some point but I don't know when.

It's just terrific that Polyphony Digital is giving out Spec 2.0 as a free update. It packs more with it than most paid DLCs!

<RANT>

However, as big a fan I am of GT5, I can't help but feel that quite a bit of these features could have been included at launch, and some of the omissions were mind boggling. Some of these things were present in GT5P, for heaven's sake!

Polyphony clearly has some of the most brilliant minds in the industry with them. Perhaps they could do with a few simple "gamers" within their ranks - gamers who can objectively look at the "game" aspect, without being mesmerised by the simulation aspect...perhaps a public beta a few months before they release GT6.

With this, I think GT5 is complete. Load times are excellent, major glitches are taken care of, and the leveling system is fair now. All there's left is just DLCs here and there.

They need to work on GT6 asap. If Forza comes out in 2013, and there's still no GT6, I can just imagine Turn 10 and its fanboys boasting to no end. Heck, they're already proclaiming and securing victory. I personally don't care about this, but I do want GT6 to be one of Ps3's last gem, like GT4 was for the ps2, and GT2 on the ps1.

Think theres enough free skylines already in gt5 already? lol. Kinda half-assed to tack on mediocre interior views for the standard cars for a simulator. Unfortunatly i sold this game a long time ago and didnt look back. I dont care what people think i still supported PD with my $60 but i was left with a very sour taste in my gaming mouth. The driving itself was perfect but there was too many other flaws that stood out for me. Good to see there still supporting GT5 since were a loooong way till GT6.

You gotta give them a break. Did you really think they should spend hours, days, or maybe even months (idk), to model 800 standards with detail? And when they do, what? They have to be functioning too? Heck, why not make all of them premium? And hey, make it free. On top of that, people want them to make new cars and tracks too! No pressure!
