Will Batman Challenge Uncharted 3 For Game Of The Year?
Many assume that Naughty Dog's Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - which has gone gold, by the way - will be in the running for Game of the Year.
And if you want to talk about competition, gamers will point to titles like L.A. Noire, Portal 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Gears of War 3, Forza 4, and Dark Souls, among others. Other competitors that have yet to arrive include Battlefield 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Assassin's Creed: Revelations. But might Batman: Arkham City, which launches next week, be Uncharted 3's stiffest competition?
Perhaps people forget how good Arkham Asylum was, and they've missed the many videos and previews for the newest title. Perhaps the reason the first game was a tad overlooked is because that year, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves stole the spotlight and earned just about every major award on the planet. It's possible that Uncharted 3 will once again steal Batman's thunder, but early reviews are singing the Caped Crusader's praises. Game Informer has already given it a perfect 10, and we can definitely expect more super high scores.
It was a runaway for Uncharted 2 but as time goes on, the competition just gets stiffer and stiffer. And this year, when it's all said and done, Arkham City might just make critics and journalists think twice before awarding that coveted Game of the Year title.

Jokes aside though Jawk, I doubt that being a more complete game doesn't warrant a GOTY as well.
Not trying to argue or disagree with you, but Mario Galaxy said otherwise.
Though Arkham City doesn't even hold a candle to Uncharted 3, it's running on the Unreal Engine 3 after all.

On topic, I believe that Arkham City deserves a chance to get Game of the Year awards, it's personally my most anticipated title this year next to Drake's Deception. But Uncharted 3 will be the PS3's powerhouse title and I am rooting for it wholeheartedly to win the coveted award.

I mean, between Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City, Battlefield 3, MW3, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Forza 4, Gears of War 3, Zelda Skyward Sword and Assassin's Creed Revelations, it's almost like the winner of GOTY will come down to personal choice of the source.
In my personal opinion, I hope it's Uncharted 3. I don't think Battlefield 3 or MW3 would reach higher status than Batman AC or Uncharted or Skyrim, cos they're FPS' that have been seen and done many times before over the last few years. Sure Battlefield 3 has a new engine and looks awesome, but it's still you standard modern day warfare FPS.
I can see many debates and arguments blowing up all over the internet come the end of this year.

What matters to me is that we get great games to play. I am not looking forward to the fanboy wars that could erupt should there be no definite GOTY across the board. Uncharted 2 did that in 2009, but it's definitely a lot more competitive this year.

Other than possibly Skyrim, it has the biggest value too. 100 hours of gameplay and a second quest? Nice.

I don't see LBP2 or LA Noire giving too big a run for the money, although I liked them both. Sadly, I was a bit let down with LA Noire. It turned out to be a little too repetitive. Portal 2? Outstanding game! Not GOTY, methinks.
I've just started Dark souls and am having a masochistic blast so far. It is just a tad too early for me to make a guess as to if it will be a GOTY contender.
I have high hopes for UC3 and hope it lives up to what everyone expects.
Either way, I don't think anyone of us should worry too much about it. So many great games this year = we all win.

I just hope that 8-9 hour length is an exaggeration and whoever played it had a 24 pack of mountain dew next to them. Anything less than 10 hours, especially so SP oriented like Uncharted always has been known for, will be a little disappointing. Oh and I don't care how long it took IGN to finish the other two.

But in my case I suspect it's a combination of not being too familiar with the Batman universe, and me being grumpy it's not a Marvel hero. I can be childish like that at times. :)
If we keep ME2 out of this (that game struck a chord in me like few other games this millennium) I too have no idea what game will end up as my personal GOTY.
Already Crysis 2 and Deus Ex are two ultrastrong candidates, and I expect to totally dig Saints Row 3.
I never really liked Oblivion but Skyrim may turn out to be a completely different matter. It probably is.
And this Batman game looks to be better in every possible way. Even Uncharted looks to have been loosening up it's tightness and I do not rule out that it may end up being the surprise of the year for me.
Lovely!

Still haven't played either so can't say yet.
I do think however that Revelations will be stronger than Brotherhood in the story department. I was going to wait on Revelations, but after hearing that Ubisoft Montreal was the key development studio, I'm much more pumped. It also looks like a better game, and I love Ezio as a character. Can't wait to see what awaits him at the end of this epic journey.

Arkham Asylum was by far the best superhero game and I enjoyed that game as much as I did Uncharted 2. I cannot wait for Arkham City and Uncharted 3 as well. They will both be great.

As for Batman, yes, I do believe it will be this year's GOTY. Instead of giving us more of the same, or in some cases, "worse" of the same, Batman seems to be impressing the snot out of critics. It's longer than UC3, will have a longer (maybe even better?) story, better voice acting and more engaging gameplay.
Frankly, I'm rather excited about getting my hands on it and finding out for myself if what is being said about it is true.

Although tbh, I can't wait for both games. They are my most anticipated games of 2011, besides AC:Revelations. Yeah, I am excited for Elder Scrolls V, and yes it looks amazing, but I just don't think it competes with what I've seen of the other 3 aforementioned titles.
Now, as far as what will win "official" GotY for 2011, that's tough. Despite it not being mentioned at all by anyone here (probably due to it being released at the beginnning of the year, and so many awesome games have come out since then and made people forget about it), I still think Dead Space 2 should be nominated for GotY at this point. Portal 2, L.A. Noire, and inFamous 2 are the other current GotY contenders.
Now if R3 had a longer campaign, I would have listed that too, but alas it didn't (although it had an excellent one). And if Rage had introduced something new, I would have listed that too, but alas, it didn't do that (although it is also excellent). And Gears 3 is fun and actually manages to deliver a decent story, but its definitely not GotY material. So I'm left with Batman: Arkham City (which by all accounts is going to replace one of the current contenders for GotY as soon as it releases), Uncharted 3 (automatic contender), Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and Elder Scrolls V.
So what we end up with is U3, ACR, Skyrim, Batman:AC, i2, and Portal 2. I took out L.A. Noire and DS2 because while those games are excellent, and they were certainly contenders for GotY halfway through the year, they're not GotY contenders for the rest of year when compared to even more brilliant titles. But anyways, by all accounts, picking which of these 6 games is best is going to be hard.

Now I get a feeling Uncharted 3 might suffer the "biased" fate.
