Skyrim Only Takes 2 Hours To Beat...If You're Special

Oh noes! The biggest RPG of the year is only two hours long! All other games are going to be 10 minutes long now! The world is ending!

Nah. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will likely be 30-40 hours and a whole lot more if you plan to fully indulge and immerse yourself in the epic world. I think we all know that.

Still, if you visit the Bethesda Blog, you'll see that one of the studio's QA guys, Sam Bernstein, completed the main campaign in only 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 10 seconds. Believe it or not, level designer Jeff Browne came in a close second...only ten seconds slower. The two participated in a speed run through Fallout 3, too, so they know what they're doing.

So Bernstein gets a pumpkin pie from Todd Howard, a trophy, and some Internet fame. Are you impressed? Would you attempt a speed run of Skyrim? Don't look at me.

Wow that's fast! The first time around, I would try to immerse myself as much as I could, but on later playthroughs, I think I could attempt a speed run, although I doubt I could come close to what these guys got. I do know a guy who beat Fallout 3 in 40 minutes....by accident...and then did it all over again to get the full experience. He also accidently beat Fallout NV earlier than he wanted, so he reloaded his save to prevent himself form accident killing off Caesar's Legion single-handedly. Damn...he's good.

Games like that have to be enjoyed and methodically paced. 2 hours doesn't sound fun to me.

So i'm assuming it has the same annoying difficulty scale as Oblivion. Lame. I hate when the enemies get stronger as i do. Games like Dark Souls and Risen use stronger enemies to kind of fence in the player, and it works well. I find that TES games are just a ton of content just for the sake of having content. The story is always awful, the characters are flat and boring, and theres no point in leveling up because the enemies level up with you.

I don't much care for Bethesda's games if you haven't noticed.

I'm with NoSmokingBandit. I'm not a fan of enemies scaling difficulty as I level up.

If I'm willing to put the effort in to overpower my character I want the reward of being able to trounce my enemies.

In Dark Souls i can turn my character in to God or just skate by on skill and tons of luck. Its all up to me and thats what i love about RPGs. In FF7 i'll often get up to level 99 well before the end of the game because stomping the crap out of tough enemies is fun. The only way to dominate in Oblivion was to get your Chameleon stat all the way up and stab everyone without them knowing,

I'm on the same hate train.

I've been on it ever since I read that Omega Weapon in VIII would have different HP depending on my character's level.

This was after the set 1 million HP of Emerald and Ruby in VII. Damnit, give me a solid number to shoot for! Give me a reason to get stronger; I don't need this "continual challenge" crap.

Along with the difficulty scaling (can it be called rubber-banding if its not a racer?) i really dont like how theres so much content but so little motivation other than the player's boredom. I often liken most games to a good novel and TES games to a dictionary. Theres much more there, but its just there for the sake of being there, not because the game required it to make sense or the story needed more support.

I played Oblivion for about 15 hours then realized i couldnt answer the simple question "why?" I then started playing a game with a story.

I wonder if they used weird little glitch secrets like in Oblivion where you could get to the final boss in like 20 minutes by exploiting a glitch in game.

Well im currently have 80 hours locked in darksouls and still got half the games bosses left and more locations i yet to discovered. Not to mention covenant lev up and invasions i plan to indulge in im not close to complete my first playthrough. Skyrim on the other hand with its more open world and tons of sideqwest and exploring i highly doubt ill have it beat in 2 hours. I put 200 hours in oblivion in 1 playthrough i expect the same with skyrim. Its no fun rushing through a game like skyrim i plan on exploring exery nook and cranny. Thats how i play my rpgs.

Thats right Bethesda, show us all how your QA team really does its job and how carefully you look for bugs in your games! Kidding aside, Oblivion really amazed me when I first played it, to me it was overwhelming to get into that game, in a good way. Familiarising yourself with the main parts of the map (no fast travel here), enemies, lockpicking, the coversation pie, magic spells, alchemy, weapon and armor materials was part of the fun of that game for me. Hell I got so into the alchemy portion of it that I used to know atleast the first three effects of a good chunk of all the common food items, more than I'd probably would like to admit. Decided to play a little less when I would grab a slice of bread or a bowl of rice in the real world and I would eventually think it fortifies my health but screws-up my stamina lol. I'm expecting a even more immersive and alive world this time around. I don't remember any glitches in Oblivion other than the vampire disease and NPCs not caring how many arrows hit them if they cant see whos doing it. Fallout 3's freezing and the stories I hear about New Vegas has made me second guess just how thorough Bethesda is with bugs, so as much as I would want this day one I just want to know how solid the game is before a purchase. Hopefully a new game engine doesn't mean new problems.

Dang thats fast...but I know that I couldnt and wouldnt want to try that...I rather take my time and make the most of my RPG games. Heck my average RPG game time is between 65 to 75 hours. :)

They were kinda dumb to make that speed run public. Some people are gonna hear that and trash the game for it's "Short length".
