Yes, it's finally here! The game all PlayStation 3 owners have been waiting for post-MGS4. It's not Killzone 2, and it's not Resistance 2. It's LittleBigPlanet, Sony's make-your-own-adventure game, a first of its kind, and certainly one of the biggest releases of this generation. Few games have generated the kind of excitement that has surrounded LittleBigPlanet, and with good reason...what other game allows you to create your very own experience? We've got our own copy of LittleBigPlanet, and believe the hype, folks...this is sensational.

If you're not familiar with the concept of LittleBigPlanet here's what you need to know...Basically, you take control of these little rag-dolls called sacks. Your main character's "name" is Sack Boy, a fully customizable doll that'll allow you to change virtually everything about him. You start off with a simple brown Sack Boy, and as you progress through the game's story mode, you'll collect a horde of items. These items will range between anything from decorational tools to customize levels, down to items that you apply on your doll.

I started off with a brown Sack Boy, who, after 20 minutes of playing, somehow formed into a ragdoll incarnation of Jack Sparrow. The creation of Sack Sparrow, as I call him, wasn't really intentional, it just sort of happened randomly while I was toying around with the creator. With my brief time, I've already seen some really wild creations, including some rather solid attempts at Nintendo characters. The customization aspect is superbly deep, and much like the rest of the game, is arguably only limited by your own imagination.

Now, I suppose I should mention that between that paragraph and this paragraph stood about three hours of my time. A "quick" session of LittleBigPlanet instantly turned into a mini-marathon of exploring a chunk of the stages that have been created thus far in the game's world. While some stages are simplistic, even they have a purpose, if only to finish it the fastest and sit at that top spot. At this point, various custom stages exist, and just to show you how detailed you can get...some have gone as far as to make their best replicas of stages from Mario Bros. and even Sonic the Hedgehog. Other brilliantly themed levels include a God of War stage, Indiana Jones, and even Uncharted. Again, because all of this is user generated content, the room for variation here is absolutely infinite.

For those who don't wish to just participate playing random user content, there is a story mode that boasts beautiful and lush creations by the Media Molecule team. Each stage is oozing with style and superb artistic details, making LBP feel more like a carefully crafted fantasy storybook...than just your everyday videogame. And that's what makes LBP such a special product, it's not an everyday experience and it's certainly not an everyday game. And if you link up with a group of buddies online or off, the experience becomes even better co-cooperatively.

Visually, everything you've seen from the screenshots has carried over to the final game. The backgrounds are meticulously detailed with some of the best looking textures in a videogame to date. Some of the details in the game are bordering photo-realism, even the Sack Boys' cloth texture is beautifully done. While the characters you run into are of the simplistic sort, the art direction and the beautiful texture work still makes LittleBigPlanet one of the best looking games of this generation by far. Additionally, there is quite a bit of voice acting in the game, largely from the narrator who guides you through the game's story mode. And the soundtrack is nothing short of perfection; this is easily the best soundtrack I've heard since perhaps Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario 64.

LittleBigPlanet is just around the corner and if you haven't made up your mind on a purchase yet, then allow me to convince you...Simply put, not owning LittleBigPlanet and being a PlayStation 3 owner should be a crime against, well...something. Media Molecule has created a game that'll go down in videogame history as one of the best gaming achievements ever.

Well hopefully this game bring about the same kind of love I feel for some classic platformers. If nothing else this shows that the game industry still has a place for original ideas, creativity, and style. I don't know if this is my cup of tea or not yet but I hope this game does extremely well if for no other reason then to encourage more developers to take chances.

This will be another great title sony can add
to there system mover list, right next to mgs4.
There are people at my job that wants to trade there 360 for my ps3 for a month just to play it. Always wanted to be a game designer, well here is my chance.

i got the beta for lbp, but it just expired a few hours ago.

my opinion: this is an abosulutely amazing game. im glad i pre-ordered it a while ago. theres so much fun in this game ESPECIALLY with friends. and me and my friend did 2 player mode on my lvl, and it allows you to sign in with a different psn account if you wana use another controller on the same ps3, first game to do that.

i cant wait for the full version, the beta was simply awsome, but the full version is packed with more loaded content, good job MM. this game can be played by anyone-hardcore or casual gamer.

LOL! When I was playing the beta my roomate was like "What's the point?? I don't get it."

I have been wondering tho, not like it matters or anything, how much I will be playing the story mode. Because I know I will be playing this game soley to develop levels. Of course, I cannot wait to try out others creations as well, but the levels that are given to you I just don't think I'll be playing so much. At least thats what the beta did to me. Sure they're awesome levels and what not but I'll get bored too quickly I think, idk.

I wonder, is there going to be a rush for copyright infringement when Nintendo and Microsoft figure out the there are Mario and Halo levels and what about the movie company's. We already know they are completely ignorant to videogames, so what happens when some big shot sees their kid playing a Dark Knight level. Can't just say its user created content, remember the character lawsuits over City of Heroes and DC?
I figure Media Molecule has it covered but u never know.

never played city of heroes but the big difference i assume would be this: City of heroes had the stuff to imitate real comic book heros, with LBP, that stuff would have to be imported into the game with the EYE, therefore slipping under the radar

LBP simply put is revolutionary. And it blows your mind when you see how bottomless the pit of opportunities is for this game.

Like arnold said the only limitation literally is your mind. I had high hopes for this game and it exeeded them in every way. Amazing.

I agree...this is a revolutionary game and a ginourmous community is going to grow from this. One thing that surprises me from all of beta testers is the lack of comments on Sackboy's controls. Honestly people...they kind of suck. Well maybe that's a little over the top, but the Z axis is sloppy as hell and the regular X/Y movement is floaty. Yeah, I'm still going to buy it, but I'm really hoping for an update that tightens the controls.

The controls are a little floaty, but definitely no deal breaker. From the beta demo experience I whole heartily recommend LBP! You'll waste away hours just playing with the physics before even sitting down to start creating a real level, and I can guarantee you'll have a smile on your face the entire time :)

Amidst all the pre order hype/people having the beta testing etc. I am still one of those people as of yet undecided to purchase this. I like to play all my games first on demo to see if I like them or they even peek my interest, unless of course its something like Motorstorm 2 or something that I already know. So far my interest has not been peeked on this.
I will have to wait till someone I know gets it and I get to play it or when the demo is available on the PSN store for Europe.

I'd have to say that I'm still undecided as well. Even though there is so much hype and everyone who gets their hands on this title are loving the crap out of it, I'm just not sure if it's for me. If the LBP controller bundles are released in the US then that would probably persuade me since I only have 2 controllers and anytime I can get a good deal on a wonderful game and another controller, I'm happy.

Beta testing has been fun, I laughed my ass off at the 360 level. You DO have to give this game a little time and play the online levels to "get it." But when you do its all silly moronic fun. For those on the fence: simply put, this game makes you feel like a kid again, if you're not into that then cool, but it is a refreshing change from point-and-shoot IMO.

Eurogamer used to be ps3's superman, they came to ps3's rescue anytime Gamespot tried to indicate how 360's graphics was finer than ps3's.
NOW is the other way,n no doubt eurogamer is one the most biggest sites in EU,dunno who's given them fat cheques at places where the sun don't shine to bash ps3.

Eurogamer is all for 360 now,it don't bother me cause i got a 360 but being unfair AINT COOL! I was pissed off to see dat 8/10 they gave MGSIV,total disrespect.Am sure dat 9/10 for LBP was not from there heart, deep down they wish they even lowered it.

When IGN n most others felt gtaiv was better on ps3,Eurogamer felt otherwise.Dat's why am glad i found psx!

While I dont trust EuroGamer, I kinda agree with their review, and I haven't even played LBP yet. But just by watching the videos, I can tell the controls aren't all there. I bet they are gonna fix all that, and in about 6 months time, this game will be a lot closer to being a 10.

I personally would have given it a 10 for what it is, and for the revolution that it's gonna start, but that's just me.

They talk positive about it, for the most part.

Of course, if you don't want to buy LBP, rent it or borrow it from a friend (if they aren't addicted to it lol). I loved seeing the creativity of Media Molecule as well as the PS3 community, and hope things keep getting better and better. Maybe, if I really planned some creative stuff out, I could release something that many other gamers could enjoy; that would give me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside xD Anyways, make sure to give this game at least ONE TRY before you decide to turn it down. You may very well be surprised by its creativity!
