Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Preview
PlayStation 3 owners were never given a chance at the first Call of Juarez game. No, it isn't a Call of Duty game set in the Wild West, it's simply just a Wild West game. Besides Rockstar's Red Dead franchise, which is also due for another title later this year, Call of Juarez is the only other Wild West shooter out there, and here's what you can expect from its prequel.
The year is 1864 and the McCall brothers are on the hunt for the Gold of Juarez in order to save their family. They will give nobody any ounce of mercy and will kill everyone in their way. But things aren't always as simple as shooting your way through, as the game throws the brothers numerous tests in the form of women and money to test their bond.
With a gun as your primary means of offense, the game gives the gamer a horde of different weapons to choose from, from a variety of pistols, to heavy-caliber cannons, and of course, machine guns. WIth every accurate shot you make, your player's focus increases, which will allow your player to enter a sharpshooter mode of sorts giving you the ability to fight off a plethora of opponents all at once without breaking a sweat, with an even deadlier effect when both brothers are engaged in the mode.
Because COJ2 features a pair of characters on screen, you are free to pick which brother you'd like to control. One character specifies in close-range combat, the other long range, and they each have unique abilities (lasso, dynamite, etc.), and weapons (dual-guns, long-range carbines, etc.) You'll need to use each brother's abilities throughout the game in order to survive and make it through, so you'll end up utilizing both Ray's and Thomas' abilities in the game. And don't forget, chances are you'll be able to get a buddy and enjoy the co-op action, as well.
Other multiplayer offerings will be found, and Ubisoft promises that the game's unique online modes, maps, and classes will make COJ2 a very epic online title. Offline, the story will feature a number of unique villains who will stand in your way, such as an Apache Chief, a Mexican bandit, and a colonel. To add to the diversity of villains is a diverse landscape that is epic in size and can be explored horseback, in wagons, or canoes.
Call of Juarez 2 is scheduled for a Summer 2009 release date.
