It's not often we get something that looks as lighthearted as Fairytale Fights does, and yet boasts an exorbitant amount of gore, surely surpassing anyone's expectations. At first glance you may think, "hey, this looks like Fat Princess and LittleBigPlanet", and if you're basing your assumption simply on the color palette, you're right.

But once the gameplay picks up, you quickly notice LBP this is not, and even though Fat Princess has its fair share of blood, Fairytale Fights still manages to take it one...well, more like five steps forward. For starters, beyond just blood splats, you can throw your enemies into crushing deathtraps that will sever them and chop them into pieces - so the environments are interactive. And with the right weapon in hand, it can be your character who does the chopping, as you have the ability to slice your enemies into pieces, as well.

You will be able to control one of numerous famous fairytale characters, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Snowhite, Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk), the Naked King, and others. So what's gotten these fairytale celebs so upset that they're running around and spilling blood all over? Well, they all feel like they've become hasbeens, and are looking to make a name for themselves by taking on a journey that has them at the forefront, as action stars that'll need to rescue princes or princesses. Your adventure will consist of 20 levels based on fairytale settings, so you get to see some familiar locales rendered using the Unreal Engine.

A plethora of weapons, over 140, will be made available to you, and the right analog stick can be used freely to slash away at opponents, cutting them not with preset animations, but rather every animation is completely unique using a physics engine developed for the game. So if you motion the analog stick a certain way, it'll affect how you've cut your enemy.

The game is billed as a 3D action/adventure platformer, and up to four people can play simultaneously in co-op mode with drop-in and drop-out enabled. Right now, Playlogic has confirmed four-player offline co-op, but has yet to confirm if it'll also be available for online. As it stands now, online co-op is set for two-player gameplay, but that can change as the game approaches release. Also, in addition to co-op, head-to-head battles will allow four gamers to fight against each other offline, and two online. Again, that can change for the final release.

Visually, the screenshots tell the story, as Fairytale Fights is not the most advanced looking game to hit the market. But it does look as it should, complete with charming, simplistic visuals and a quasi-isometric perspective to view the action from.

I saw this at pax and watched a friend play it and it looks like a lot of fun similar to FP but there definately is a lot more blood. This could be a great game especially with the co-op I might have to give it a try when it comes out.

This looks like the kind of "story" that I was looking for when I was a kid. Damn fairytales and their lameness. Bring on the blood. Mwuahahaha!

What's up with these misleading themes??

Hmm =\
I'd pick it up if it was a PSN title. May do so later in the future's future.
