Naughty Bear Preview
Okay, all right, get your laughs in now. Because while most of are you saying, “yeah, like I’m gonna buy this,” I urge you to at least learn about this one before dismissing it. Trust me, while I often try to search for previews featuring original titles (it’s nice to take a break from the standard), I’m not always convinced that some ideas will work. I’m not entirely convinced with Naughty Bear but you can bet I’m harboring this twisted, childish, oddly comical desire to give it a whirl next summer, almost regardless of other titles on store shelves. Where else can you wreak havoc in a village full of stuffed bears? Since when do we play video games with the express purpose of causing mischief and simply annoying - and yes, maybe killing – those around us? Naughty Bear exists for the sake of being naughty and that word can encompass some pretty horrific acts of violence, even though we won’t be seeing copious amounts of blood as we did in the mediocre Fairytale Fights. But that won’t stop your once-cutesy character from stabbing another bear with a wooden sword!
I read through plenty of information and details and that includes IGN’s eyes-on session with the game, and the author emerged with the same kind of strangely gleeful glow. This is where I heard about the wooden-sword-in-the-gut bit, but again, there’s no blood so instead, we’ll get flying fluff. However, it seems as if the primary goal doesn’t focus on combat; it’s really more about making every other bear’s life miserable, which means we go beyond knocking the stuffing out of brutally ripped seams. Naughty Bear will also sneak into homes and steal stuff and while he’s there, maybe he’ll decide to set fire to the living room. Or maybe he’ll have to silence the irate homeowner who’s threatening to call the police. And this is where things get a bit more interesting- due to the sandbox style of the gameplay, you will have lots of freedom to do almost whatever you wish. So this little world is loaded with plenty of possibilities and exploration will likely be a definite requirement.
Of course, there has to be a point to all this nonsense, right? Well, there is: you need to rack up as many “Naughty Points” as possible, which will in turn increase your “Naughty Rank.” There are a grand total of 50 ranks and the higher you rise, the more abilities you will unlock. There are also 28 total levels spread across 4 separate areas and I really like the idea of fresh outfits that grants my bear more skills; i.e., the Robo Bear suit will give him talents he never had before. The game will also notice how you play; if you go berserk and start slaying everything in sight without bothering with the consequences, you might be branded “psycho.” If you’re sneaking about, seeking to cause the most damage and mayhem possible without suffering through too much danger, you’ll be called “clever.” The more I hear, the more it sounds like some sort of cross between the aforementioned Fairytale Fights and Grand Theft Auto, which is unassailably cool…on some level.
Naughty Bear is one of those games that probably should hold a lower price point (it’ll retail for $49.99 but I was thinking more like $39.99 or even $29.99), but then again, it could really surprise us with its extended addictive gameplay. Four multiplayer modes will also be featured for those who need to take their deadly mischief online, and in this generation, such an option is basically essential. Will you soon find yourself striking out with your angry teddy bear, bashing on other teddy bears and stealing their crap? Will you be causing craziness in the streets? Will you up your “Naughty Rank” to unbelievable levels? Be honest now! A2M brought you Wet; this may be a complete departure from that type of game…or is it?

Ahem, this should be interesting, to say the least lol
Hopefully it's not firt-person. With that out of the way this game might actually be a lot of fun.
In a sense it's almost like a Simpsons' game. Like using Bart to throw rocks at other kids, etc.
But yeah this could be fun, loving the fact that it's supposed to be all 'bout exploration, exploration's always good, in any game! In fact, that's one of the main things I love 'bout rpgs. There are so many hidden secrets/weapons, mini games, etc.

People need to understand that dust is ps3's biggest danger. At least with the "fat" ps3
Vacuum the crap out of it at least once a month and your fat ps3 will probably never die.
Sorry to hear. At least it gave you many years of gaming. The other console would've given you 5 months tops.
It's a 60Gig, you better man up and get that repaired from Sony ASAP. Yes it'll be $150 smackers but hey it's worth it. Precious 60GB model. Just make sure to vacuum it when you do get it back.
PS: Getting a slim might be a good option too. Either way hang in there dude. Hopefully you have the ps2/psp or even ps1 around.

Try leaving it off for a few hours then turning it on again. I mean completely off too. Switch in back and all. If you can turn it on and it tries for a bit and then switches off and does it's infamous double beep listen for the fan. If it starts up then dies you probably just have some crap tying up the motor. If you are out of warranty already it is worth it to open it up and clean out the fan really well. There are videos online of how to get to the fan. If that works you are golden, but if the fan motor has burnt out you are pretty much left with the option of calling it dead or paying 150 to have it replaced.
Good luck to you.

@Scarecrow
I have no problems with paying $150 if it means that my precious monster will be brought back to life. However my biggest concern is that they might just give me another person's refurbished model or a new model. I want my own monster back. Will that be possible or is it just wishful thinking? Also if they do fix it and send me the original, will it last long or will it eventually YLOD again? Last question, what kind of vacuum will I need? I have a portable one that has the long plastic nose....do those work without damaging the system? Also, yes I still have my original PS1 and PS2, as well as my phat PSP so BC is no problem. Still I love my Phat 60gb and all it's beauty. If I got a slim that would mean no card readers and only 2 usb ports :( (I use my card readers and the extra 2 ports).
@coverton341
I tried turning it on, unfortunately, after an hour and 30 mins (hadn't seen your advice). When I touch the power button the fan kicks in but than stops after the YL appears. I've been out of warranty for a very LONG time now. Hypothetically speaking, if I opened the system and cleaned the dust out but the fan still stops after the YL, should I still try other method of fixing the fan or might it be another problem? Last question, if I open the system up and attempt to fix it by myself, will I still be able to send it in for repair and pay the $15?
Thank you guys in advance. Your help is very much appreciated. I think I'm exaggerating with the whole tears thing lol, but it still hurts. Oh well, wish me luck!

Aye,
Well to be honest I'm not sure if they'd taken in your ps3 if you opened it (though they might)
'Bout the vacuum. Any would do, as long as its suction is not too hard. The lowest suction setting should do it. Basically you want the vacuum to suck in dust/particles but not anything else. So don't focus on suction, rather, focus on getting the dust out as "pleasantly" to the console as possible. Treat it like a baby lol.
On the question of it getting clogged up again or the fan failing. Yeah that's a tough one, I guess it depends on how much one takes care of it. It last you at least 2+ years, so imagine if you dusted it out every month. Would probably last you 4+ years.
I think for you sending it back might be the best option. You can always get a Slim in the future if you want to. But ultimately it's up to you.
By the way, if ya wanna know more, check out the quick reference: http://www.playstation.com/manual/pdf/PS3-01-1.0_2.pdf

Sony will service an opened PS3, but it will cost you $150 even if it would have been under warranty and they will return it unrepaired if there is any sign on tampering/modding. You might be able to get away with the heat gun trick, but I wouldn't risk it myself.
You may get your own system back, but it is up to the service guys to decide, based on the nature of the repairs needed (they try to send you the best system they have). I requested my own system back, but the support guy wouldn't promise anything.
Any vacuum will do, but make sure you don't touch any of the circuits. I recommend that you vacuum only from the outside. A can of compressed air is also useful. You wouldn't believe the amount of fine dust that came out of mine.
I thought about getting a slim (mostly because of the power efficiency), but decided to repair my fatty.

I just shipped my PS3 out for repairs today. Send me a PSN message (PSN ID: fane1024; I can receive it on another PS3) if you want me to give you an update (when I get it back) on how things went.
p.s. Mine's been dead for one month exactly and it has been a pain to do without it.
