It’s an iconic franchise and one that deserves a top-quality installment that makes the long-time fans rise and applaud. After the debut trailer apparently generated an overwhelmingly positive reaction, publisher Capcom pushed the game up from its initial November 20 date to October 2. Some of the veteran followers don’t like the new action-oriented approach and the switch from classic survival/horror to what the developers are calling “dramatic horror,” but we really just want a fantastic game. Provided it’s amazing, genre is irrelevant, right?

There will be three protagonists in the game; those in-the-know will recognize the familiar names of Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield, and although the name Jake Muller is new, his father’s name isn’t…yep, it’s Albert Wesker’s son. But is he as maniacal as dear ol’ dad, who has given gamers fits in the past? Well, you’ll find out during the course of the storyline; each of the three characters has a story to tell, and their paths will cross as you progress. Leon starts off in the town of Tall Oaks where a bioterrorist attack has turned everyone into zombies, Chris is in China, and Jake is in some fictional European town called Edonia.

During the gameplay, you will be accompanied by a partner, as we were in Resident Evil 5. At first, the idea of a partner mechanic annoys me, but I remain optimistic as the cooperative style worked extremely well in RE5; Sheva was capable and effective and above all else, not a nuisance. Therefore, when we’re playing Leon and US security service agent Helena Harper is by our side, we should expect nothing less than a Grade A partner, yes? Chris gets sniper Piers Nivans and Jake brings along Sherry Birkin, the daughter of Umbrella scientist William Birkin.

You can choose your order of play; if you’d like to go with Chris first, feel free. This reminds me of the branching stories of the three protagonists in Suikoden III but that’s my RPG past shining through, and it’s mostly irrelevant. …anyway. Speaking of gameplay, Capcom has promised a set of all new controls, which is great news because let’s face it— The tank controls just aren’t cutting it anymore, and it especially seemed out of place against faster zombies and monsters in RE5. Tradition is great but sometimes, we really need to embrace better mechanics.

So yeah, you’ll be able to move and shoot at the same time; a common staple of gaming today, but it’ll happen for the first time in this venerable franchise. We’ll even be able to dual-wield and go prone, two very action-y concepts that definitely add new flavor to the series. Oh, and I should probably add that some of the zombies will have weapons, too, so it won’t be like shooting fish in a barrel, as it has often been throughout RE’s history. If you’re particularly crafty and resourceful, you can grab a zombie’s weapon and keep it for yourself…

Lastly, Capcom claims to keep the pacing and style of traditional survival/horror, as the ambiance will be exactly what one would expect: From exploring creepy, dark rooms to sudden, terrifying frights; a rollercoaster ride that is bound to keep us on the edges of our seats. Well, that’s the goal, at any rate. And provided Capcom comes through with stable, responsive controls, intriguing story segments, and a memorable atmosphere that keeps us playing, Resident Evil 6 should be a big-time winner.

O Capcom, why must you insist on destroying the RE titles, we all know you guys want a piece of that cod profits, but must you really do away with everything that got you here in the first place?

Well, I guess we'll have to see how it turns out, I for one am not really looking forward to this however. I didnt think RE4 was going down the right path with the changes it made, and that just continued into RE5, and from the sounds of it, things will be even worse in RE6, but again, it's not out, and time will tell.

Please look up resident evil six info before you make your decision, re racoon city was a cod rip off but re6 wont be, the developers released 2 new trailers last week along with an ign article and their will be darkness, real zombies back unlike in re5 and 4, you know the slow but scary zombies that follow you around and corner you into a dark room, nothing like the failure that was re5, all in all change has to happen, im not down with re5 type change wbut the change i mean is still horror but with some sort of action, exactly what re6 will bring to the table, this is coming from a true re fan.So true that i boycotted by not getting re racoon city , and waiting to see re6 info and seeing that it will bring back some of what we use to have.

Also pay attention to the leon part of the trailers, theres more horror and it looks like we will be mostly playing as leon ,and some of chris,as well as weskers son,.But leon bieng the main cake.

no ones the main "cake".
theres a story for each character and each characters story is the same length.
its definitely looking more like a horror game then RE5 but thats not saying much!

IMO i think this re still looks more survival horror than re5 or re4, the devs made that clear last week with their info last week, like i said before i think leons part will be horror and chris will be a mix of horror and action, the devs confirmed this last week and im happy to say along with other hardcore re fans, we see capcom putting re back into its rightful place, in an exclusive ign insight, the developer went on to say sometimes you'll be in total darkness with only the moon to light your night, and i see that with trailers and images, and that my friend is the total opposite of re5, and thats good because re5 was the total opposite of a true resident evil game, lol it was in africa, a sun brightened 24/7 are with no zombies, the developers also confirmed that there will be real zombies again like in the real resident evil games, no uruboros clowns with chainsaws LOL.

meh.
sorry crapcom but you destroyed all my interest in the RE series when you turned 4 into a mindless shooting game!
RE6 should be like the original REs, not like f*cking dead rising!

Really what the hell was wrong with resident evil 5? Resident evil 1-3 and the others that was old school survival horror was games that i would rather watch some1 play instead of play myself because even back then the controls were horrible. Id be damned if i pay $60 for an game that would go back to all those old school resident evil ideas, and if it did, i just wouldnt buy it and spend my money on something else. Its that simple. Evolution is the key! Capcom got my support with resident evil 6 fully.

Nothing was really "wrong" with RE5. I liked it a lot.

But you just can't have those tank mechanics anymore. As I said in the preview, we do need to embrace progression in this particular case.

It's the action-oriented style that fans have an issue with; RE5 was definitely survival/horror while RE6 looks more like a third-person shooter.

O i know you enjoyed the game Ben, and to be honest its not many things i found wrong with the game. With the freedom of the camera, i didnt find the tank controls all that bad.

I hope RE6 is going back to it's roots, time will tell if what they claim is true. RE5 wasn't scary at all or frightening in the least, and if they follow up with what they said, I would gladly pay for the game.

Still love playing the old RE games, hopefully RE6 will be one of them that I can play a lot.

Awesome, change CAN be good if done correctly. I got my fingers crossed for this one. I just hope the controls are nothing like Heavy Rain, that would really blow.

"RE5 was definitely survival/horror"

I guess we did nt played the same game . To me RE 5 barely felt like a survival horror game and the AI was average at best ( barely help ,get in you re line of sight and stay still waiting to get her head cut off by a chainsaw or to get smashed by the Executioner) .

------------------------------------------

Can t believe they kept the coop in this and forcing a partner on you again if you play alone .

Anyway , i just hope that what you wrote about what capcom said in you re last paragraph is true .Really need that series to feel more like a survival horror then the past 2 games .

I also hope that different stuff will happen depending on what order you progress through the game .

the story has progress to something great and for the first time ever we get a game with criss and leon .and that is a positive for me .i have been a fan of the series like all others and all those who played the game knows how the controles from the days of res 1 and part 2 was fustrating at times but we loved the game so much that we all repeat and beat the game res2 over and over useing 1 herb and saveing only once tru the whole game just to unlock the smg and rocket with unlimited ammo so we can repeat the game all over again ,wishing the hunk mini game was longer and had more missions ,i love this game so much i all most wanted to get another system just to play code veronica when i herd that it was an exclusive . and when they made re4 and did the over the sholder game play the made some thing new and the game was great but yet not perfect . part 5 was great for me i loved the grafix but yet still not perfect .the controles were still something to work on .whit that said being a fan of the game i always wanted to be able to hold my gun up in an aiming action and to be able to step back wile i shoot or to step forward ,or sideways and so on do get me wrong am not talking about runing and gunning i just wanted the ability to walk and shoot like dead space wile aiming to be able to kick a zombie in front of me so i can run away .and the game has to have more action because of the story the virus is world wide and not confined to in a small city /or village the secret is out so with a changeing story and different enemy u should have to adap to that
