Dead Space 3 Preview
Some gamers have mixed feelings about the Dead Space franchise. The survival/horror purists say that these games don’t necessarily qualify for the niche genre, simply because they’re more like scary third-person shooters. But it’s undeniable that “horror” is a main element, and that element will return in full force in Dead Space 3. The addition of the cooperative aspect might make things even more intriguing, especially considering that your partner won’t always see what you see…and that alone is worthy of discussion.
The implementation of a co-op mechanic has its pluses and negatives. On the downside, one has to appreciate the solo style in any game that hinges on fear; after all, we’re always more frightened when we’re all by ourselves. This is how the best examples of interactive horror have operated in the past. But developer Visceral Games has opted to ditch the traditional in favor of a more modern approach, and as we all know, the popularity of multiplayer has skyrocketed this generation. Besides, the designers can do all sorts of freaky stuff with the co-op mechanic.
One thing you’ll have to remember when playing with a friend— What you see on your screen isn’t necessarily what your buddy is seeing. There are times when one of the characters might be hallucinating and while he’s in total freak-out mode, his partner won’t fully understand why he’s freaking out. Well, how come? Because those hallucinations aren’t visible to the character who has remained sober and fully conscious. This idea could result in some truly memorable sequences, provided the developers don’t make things too disjointed, to the point where one player is always a little confused as to what’s happening to his partner.
Another difference will be the increased speed of the Necromorphs, which should serve to amp up the urgency and intensity. My only issue with this is that aiming in the Dead Space games was critical for two reasons: 1. Ammo was always relatively scarce and 2. The Necromorphs really would only die fast if you severed their limbs or cut off the heads. Randomly firing at their body would result in wasted ammunition. Now, while the third-person shooting mechanic has always worked beautifully, I’m a little concerned about facing super fast foes when ammo is just so damn valuable. Well, maybe that ammo won’t be so scarce this time around.
Oh, and don’t forget the enhanced customization. We’ll be able to fiddle with our weapons by adding new pieces to existing weapons, and even fusing two firearms to create a brand new bad-ass weapon. Apparently, there are a great many options for the sadistically imaginative. Above all else is the atmosphere, which appears to be fittingly dark, hellishly gory, and hopefully, downright petrifying. Whether it’s survival/horror or not (and most will say “not” for DS3), this title will still thrive on thrills and chills, so they need to be in extreme abundance. Based on what we’ve seen so far, I’d say Visceral has that covered. Hope you're not squeamish.
Dead Space 3 is slated to launch on February 5, 2013. If you’ve got a willing friend, this should be high on your priority list.

But it could've just been due to the fact that I didn't know what to expect from the DS series in itself, & in DS2 I knew that in a sense, it would be more of the same.
Also as for DS2, although I think I'm over 4/5 the way into it, I've never been able to complete it cause I've wound up completely stuck inside a tiny little claustrophobic corridor, with no money, and less than 3 bullets or projectiles a-piece between all of my load-out weapons & with 1 bar of health, no stasis or kinetics left, as 3 pukers, 4 leapers, a hoard of those star-fish thingies launching onto my back, and that Necromorph that keeps on re-generating & walking through closed doors to get me.
Plus even if I had any money left, I can't even backtrack to a exchange store module to change to change my load-out, or get more ammo, because there hasn't any around since my very last save either(I know cause I've tried & tried).
Oh well, just have to keep go back to DS2 from time to time & being torn apart until I can figure another way to either get through that section, or around it.
But I think that in the end when things are all said & done, & even though I'd hate doing it again, I might just have to go & re-do that whole damned chapter once again just to change-out my everything.

I agree that DS1 was scarier because you didnt know what to expect. But I think DS2 improved upon 90% of the original and didn't detract much. The ability to control yourself in space was great fun!
Good luck with DS2....you should then try it in Hard Core mode - talk about intense! I've never been so afraid to die in a video game in my life. (Aside from at the bottom of a dungeon in a FF game where I've played for 2 hours and haven't been able to save - that's pretty scary too)

Well, I think I'm pretty much screwed at this point, just because the last store was way before this last checkpoint, so I'm not able to change my load-out, powers, or even get any ammo.
Plus I have don't have enough money left in my account to even buy the ammo(I knew I shouldn't have bought all those damned nodes previously , LOL)
Sooooo....if I can't find a way out past all those Necro's, I'll most probably have to restart that whole mission all over again(somewhere after mission 15 if I remembered right).

BTW, just wanted to say thanks to the rest of the guys on their DS2 comments & well wishes too, KUDO's!

We already have the opposite of it, the Survival/Action genre, with RE5, what with obscene amounts of firepower, but with limited inventory, as well as health and ammo being scarce/not sold at vendors.
Let's see what we can do with this other side of the spectrum.

I don't blame Visceral, I blame market research.
