It's certainly a necessity in The Godfather II, and you'll watch the main character take over a brothel in this Comic-Con 09 demonstration. This is pretty brutal: he simply walks in and starts firing, taking down all the guards and eventually gaining control of one of the girls. He finds her weak spot (jabs and punches), extracts some money, and then enforces his will. ...yep, that's organized crime.
