There was a time in the not-so-recent past when many critics and analysts believed the fighting genre had gasped its last breath. Or, at the very least, the 2D arenas we all grew up with would dissipate like gossamer in a stiff wind. Forgive us for waxing rhapsodic but this tends to happen when nostalgia factors into the description... Anyway, we were all wrong, as 2D fighters have really stepped to the forefront yet again; as an example, here's a look at The King of Fighters XII, the latest and possibly greatest installment in the long-running franchise. You just can't keep a good format down!
