Get Even Strives For "Photo-Realism" And Multiplayer Innovation

Time to further blur the line between single-player and multiplayer entertainment.

The Farm 51 (Painkiller: Hell & Damnation) has announced a new shooter scheduled for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It's called Get Even and it will boast "photo-realistic" visuals and an innovative approach to single/multiplayer gaming.

The story revolves around the memories of its main heroes, and these memories will have a huge impact on how the narrative plays out. The decisions the player make will ultimately define their character's personality, and can also affect the narrative sequences. As for the aforementioned "blurring," when a player begins the single-player campaign, other human players can join as enemy players. This means you'll never know if your foes are human or NPC...although I'm willing to bet it won't be tough to tell the difference.

In regards to the "photo-realistic" visuals, that will be delivered courtesy of a new 3D scanning tech called "Thorskan." It utilizes "advanced lightning effects" to create those supposedly unbelievable graphics; you can see a demonstration in this YouTube video. Then there's the highly advanced weaponry, with guns the likes of which you've never seen, such as one that can shoot around corners.

Said The Farm 51 CEO Wojtek Pazdur:

"As an independent developer, it would be foolish to go head-to-head with the larger companies and create a 'me-too' knock-off, and frankly we wouldn’t be interested in doing it. We believe that there is still a ton of content and design creativity that has yet to be explored in the first-person genre, as well as an audience beyond the warfare player--those are the people we are going for with Get Even."

Get Even will be a digital download and it's tentatively slated to launch some time in 2015. Here's the debut trailer; it does look mighty promising.

Wasn't Painkiller bad? I'm not feelin' it but I'm always interested in these experimental graphics techniques. I had kinda hoped other games would do what L.A. Noire did for other purposes.

I distinctly recall being able to shoot around corners in the Resistance series ;)

Sounds like a pretty good concept they've got going... but it rings of Brink and Mindjack, which both also tried to have human players in the role of NPC enemies and kinda failed. Good luck.

that's true. i can't help but think with the new tech, the failure of "Players as NPC's" thing won't be as much of a failure this time

oh god can we PLEASE get rid of this blend SP and MP CRAP!?
SP and MP are different for a REASON!
allot of people dont like one or the other, blending them together gives you one half a$$ed mesh of both.
the tech demo of this looks freaking amazing, actually hard to believe its real gameplay.
but with stupid boring crap like this, no thank you!
NFS rivals was already destroyed by this crap, then theres bungies destiny, and respawns titanfall, i think thats enough thank you very much!

I agree...to a point. I have NFS Rivals on the PS4 (giggity) and the blend definitely gives it a greater authentic feel to it IMO. When it's done right, the blend can be AMAZING! In NFS:R's example, I can't consider it half-assed.

The Farm 51 said 2015 at the end of that trailer, that has *got* to be enough time to successfully blend the two together, especially with the creation time of the PS4 being so low as well.

it spoills it with rivals!
instead of having set missions and races, everythings boilled down to such simplicity.
especially if your a racer, every single f*cking time i go to a event you have to put up with d*ck heads constantly trying to bust me.
when you turn your router off just so you can play your game in peace and quiet you know your in trouble!

Wow. Just, wow. Consider me interested!
Seriously love the visual presentation, as well as the single and multiplayer concept. If this is done right, it could usher in a new genre of game.

They should also try to tweak their AI based on how real players interact with each other. By creating an environment where players act as NPC, the AI could adapt to real player movements and strategies. Though, an adaptive AI like that would be a rather large feat of its own to create, it certainly would not be impossible.

Honestly, as an indie developer myself, I love seeing other independent developers going beyond the usual indie realm, and entering into the AAA world. I'd never be able to do anything !like this myself, butg gosh, I sure as heck wish I could.

Looks great but I don't care for the multiplayer element.
